What has Costa got to do with that situation? I didn't think it was a penalty at the time and I still don't. The reason people don't give it the attention you think it deserves is because most people, bar the Chelsea fans, agree with the ref. It wasn't a penalty even if it did toe the line a bit.

Sanchez was equally as quiet. Cocklin was lucky not to be sent off in the first half for two fouls as we were on the break.

So , should I rely on your word or someone who has done quiet a bit of refereeing in his life ? Mate He was no where near the ball !! He basically grabbed him and dragged him from the ball . By the book that is at least yellow and penalty ! By the book If you played football at least the one on Sunday , you should know this does not fly with referees .

You're missing the point. The game isn't officiated 100% by the book, and it hasn't been for as long as I can remember. Consistency is preferred, and in my opinion letting the Gabriel/Hazard situation go was correct, as it was more consistent. By the same token I don't scream at the top of my lungs for every shirt pull not given, because they're too common for the ref to give them all.

It's discretionary for consistency, and giving a pen for Gabriel's foul wouldn't have been consistent.

I'm sure if we were discussing the merits of an impulse murderer and one who pre-plans murder we'd all agree the pre planned murder is worse. But this is partisan football where reason and logic goes out the window.

I think Garth Brooks is and always has been a fucking idiot.
That little tantrum makes me think no differently either. Basically he's saying that Dean shouldn't have sent anybody off and that a good ref wouldn't have sent anyone off in that situation, that "It's not all about Mike Dean" but I think actually the majority of people accept that it was a sending off and the uproar is actually not that Gabriel was sent off, that wasn't the issue, it was that he didn't also send off Costa.
Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick but I don't see anyone arguing that Gabriel should have stayed on, just that Costa should have been off too. So basically Crooks is having a go at Dean for applying the laws of the game. He's actually saying in this instance, use your common sense, ignore the rules. Now obviously Dean has only applied the rules to the Arsenal defender, that's presumably because he didn't see what Costa had done, which is excusable to a degree, he's not let it go because he's corrupt or because he wants the spotlight on him. He sent Gabriel off for a red card offence, and it should be assumed he's not sent Costa off because he simply hasn't seen what the Chelsea forward did prior. Mike Dean has not ruined the game. Dirty players who try to con the bloke, wind up opposing players when they think nobody is looking and players that react and lash out are the reasons for controversial sendings off. It's not Mike Deans fault that Costa is a grade A c*** and Gabriel is the Brazilian Cletus.

I don't think it was a penalty, if anything Hazard is fouling Gabriel after he's been muscled out of it initially. He's preventing Gabriel from turning to play the ball.

I hope Costa gets a retrospective ban for raising his hands in Koscielnys face. I'm presuming he was booked for going chest-to-chest with Gabriel and so the ref's didn't see it (which means the FA can punish him).

They did....well at least tried to. Oxlade got a bit hot under the color and Costa barely blinked.

My favourite part of the whole game was Costa egging Gabrielle on as he was being hauled off by about 4 team mates after getting his marching orders. Piss boiling at its very finest.

He made sure to run directly in front of the Latte firm as he ran off celebrating for Zoumas goal...It was up there with one of the finest displays I've seen from a Chelsea striker in years. It was amazing.
