Fair to say I picked the wrong game to go to out of our last two home games.

That was quality in the second half, we played them off the park, though it came from the fortunate goal and they just imploded.

Takes Johnson fucking ages to get it right, but when he does we actually look a very good side.

Don't take our implosions as a good sign, JJH. It's a symptom we've been suffering for about 3 seasons now. The mentality seriously needs to change in the squad, and I don't know how we do that. Sign stronger players? Done that. Change manager? Done that. Change owner? Done that. Ship out the shite? Done that. I give up. :ffs:

That's what I mean Jase, I won't get carried away by that by any means but it was like men vs boys in the second half, which is ridiculous given some of the individuals in your side.

Tomlin's back anyway. He was absolutely fucking delighted with his goal. Great free kick.

Once we stopped being scared shitless of them (which we were in the first half), we absolutely hammered them and exposed them as the bottlejobs they were last season. Bunch of dirty bastards as well, 7 yellow cards in the second half! They really don't like it up and at them...

Aye, Grealish looked like Lionel Messi in the first half, kicked lumps out of him in the second and looked scared shitless. Bobby Reid snapped him

Shows what I know! Bloody brilliant!

After we got the goal we were all over them like a rash, never let up. Can tell that away record is hanging over Villa, they fell to pieces completely.

Shoutout to the pitch invader after the 2nd, the picture of him attempting to swing from the crossbar only to fall straight into the net is going to live long in the memory

Right. Man United got fined £25k a couple of years ago for having 6 players booked. Today we had 7 booked, I fully expect a £13million fine then.

First half Villa should have been 3 up. They squandered 2 great chances. They were the better side by far, quicker to the ball, winning the second ball and all 50/50s.
Second half, just wow! Absolutely fantastic second half performance, and whatever LJ said at half time worked.
Gollini was fooled for the freekick by Magnusson setting himself for it. It suited a left footer better and that's what Gollini prepared for, that said, he really should have done better.
Tammy, just inspirational, at just 18/19 he is a top end championship striker, his vision, movement, pace and strength causes defences all sorts of problems.

3 negatives though.
1. Freeman poor yet again, better in the second half, but still not good. This could be solved by the signing of Patterson.
2. We have conceded in every league game and that could become a problem.
3. Why does it take us until the second half to get going?

Your players really need to work on their discipline. At least 4 of those bookings were for mouthing off at the referee, and De Laet (sp?) arguably could have been sent off if he had been booked for his follow through on Magnusson prior to his booking for being gobby. That said the referee was fairly decent, not great but consistent which is the least we as fans can ask for.
4 bookings for being gobby is silly though and I'm sure Di Matteo will have some words with those players about it.

I thought the ref was only consistent in the sense that he balanced out the amount of shocking decisions for either side, but there we go. First half he wasn't having anyone breathing on a Villa player, after the break they couldn't make a foul without him dishing out his yellow card. Very odd

We've only conceded 5 in 5 and played the 3 strongest squads in the league. Not much to worry about defensively in my eyes.

Edit: Mark Little aside!

Conceding in every league game is an issue though. I accept we have played 3 of the toughest sides, but a failure to have a clean sheet 5 games in is a concern.
Nothing wrong with Littles performance today, tremendous second half and in the first half he was no worse than anyone else. Especially as Villa were able to double up against him because Freeman just wouldn't help him out.

I didn't see an issue with any of the Villa bookings, at least 4 were for dissent and 2 of them were for scything players down. I don't remember the last one, could well have been another one for dissent.

First half he was at fault for the goal and then was very nearly at fault for another after he completely bottled a tackle allowing them to run into the box. After that he played well.

He could do nothing more for the goal. Reid gave the ball away and Freeman made no effort to get back. Meaning Villa could double up on Little. So you're trying to blame a defender who didn't give the ball away and had 2 very talented wingers against him without support for the goal we conceded?! Utter madness, yes he could have done better, but it was a shocking pass by Reid, no effort from freeman, the first ball wasn't dealt with by Flint, Magnusson or Golbourne meaning there was an easy ball back across to pick out Grealish. Yet this is purely Littles fault?
Stop trying to create a scapegoat.

Also a special mention to the Villa defender who got out paced by Aaron Wilbraham!
Almost the highlight of the day for me.

Villa were lucky he didnt score to make it 4-1, which looked impossible at half time but for their second half no show.

First game of the season for me- Abraham is bloody brilliant, as is Magnusson. Freeman shit as ever and Reid should be further up the pitch in front of the rock ONeill and Pack.

The highlight of the match must be that pitch invader to be honest

I said it after the Wigan game, but Magnusson will play in the Premier League. I just hope it is with us.

Absolute garbage first half, utterly brilliant second half! One day we'll turn up for the whole 90 minutes and steamroller somebody!

I don't like it when people always jump on one player, but he was at fault for the goal. That's not to say there weren't other errors made, but Grealish is standing exactly where Little should be. He's caught out of position ball watching as a ball goes over his head to the back post, as happened time and time again up at Burton where we were fortunate not to be punished for it. It's the biggest weakness in his game.

As has been said though, he did have a good game after that.

Pack was excellent when he came on. Johnson doesn't seem to fancy him but I do think we look better with him in there with O'Neill (he's class, btw). Reid's a good player but not suited to being in the 2.

Plus hopefully Korey will be back after the international break

Jesus, touchy much.

"Could do nothing more"

How about marking his man on the back post. It's really that simple. He also didn't bother to follow his man when Villa initially broke away on that attack.

I'm not trying to create a scapegoat. He is our weakest defender by a mile and that is blatantly obvious. It's also rich coming from you considering you've singled Freeman out for being shite today on a number of occasions.

Freeman was shite today. I'm not blaming him solely for anything though, however, in the entire game Freeman produced 1 moment of note. A direct run (something he seems very reluctant to do) followed by a scuffed shot.
He was however terrific against Scunthorpe, and ok against Newcastle. Against the Toon he caused issues with the positions he got into, but never had any final product. I do notice though that Little was the defender slagged off after the Newcastle game, despite playing better than Matthews did.

Say the opposite and that's what we've been saying since the start of the season. Sheff Weds excepted, that game was backwards.

Just watched the highlights, what a block from Flint, and another beaut of a free kick from Tomlin.
