Leeds comfortably the biggest. Even in the context of Prem teams they'd be 5th/6th for me.

Then yeah, us, Wednesday, Sheep and Wolves in no particular order.

Our crowds aren't helped by the sheer number of clubs within spitting distance of Preston. (About 15, I think)

Goodison, Anfield, Old Trafford & the Etihad are all about a 17 second leisurely stroll away.

.

Man City (Even before the money)
Man Utd
Everton
Liverpool
Arsenal
Tottenham
West Ham
Newcastle

Are all comfortably bigger than Leeds.

Possibly Villa, too.

In my opinion, of course.

I know how it feels - how are you meant to compete when you have the massive Bristol Rovers on your doorstep?!

Absolutely not.

City never will be bigger than Leeds, even with the cash.

West Ham are a complete myth. Bigged up by the media for some reason, probably because they are London based, but they are a mid tier Prem club who have a reasonable fanbase because they have pretty much the whole south east to themselves

Newcastle - West Ham of the north. We have won a European Cup more recently than they have won ANYTHING (I'm not counting the Intertoto Cup, my mum once brought me one of those for Christmas)

I'd have United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs bigger. Everton maybe similiar and Villa not far behind.

Of course, in my humble opinion.

Fair enough.

Although City regularly got double the crowds that Leeds are pulling, when playing in Division 1 & 2.

Often getting 34k+ at Maine Rd, in what now is League one.

QPR being put far too high in most people's lists. Not disputing our position though, should be in the bottom 3 every time.

Reading have done a lot in the last 10-15 years, on recent history they've been more successful than most if not all teams in this league.

I'd be tempted to put you above Leeds on the basis you won 2 European Cups. Not many 2nd tier teams in the world can boast that.

All three have played in the PL, you lot haven't, all three have bigger crowds.... next.
Also, Reading have played in the PL and get bigger crowds than us, can I ask why you've elected to position them below us?

We've been out of the Prem for 15 (jesus christ) years now. Leeds also have the fanbase and a much better domestic history.

Though I'd argue we do OK considering we have been in constant decline for years.

We still boast the 3rd/4th biggest attendance most years, the 2nd/3rd highest away figures and that is for a 2 club city (County take their fair share off us) and we have a lot of big clubs within an hour of us. Nottingham is a small city and Notts is a small county.

City averaged 28k in their only 3rd division stint.

In the 80s and 90s prior to the move to Etihad their crowds were sub 30k like Wednesday....

Because Reading have allus been tiny!

Quite a few sizeable gaps I would say too in between. The top 5 out on their own, then the next 5 or so. The next 10-12 are fairly equal but history separates them and then the bottom 3.

On club size it's hard to balance past success and more recent. Fair enough ranking us low in this list, I think we're somewhere 18th-21st, but I do hate when people say we're not a second tier level club now. We've spent almost all of the last 30 years at this level, have a stadium and infrastructure for this level, get decent attendances for this level, have decent success.

Still a lot of football fans around who remember when we were shite in the 70s/80s, as time goes on and we keep up at a similar level to what we are now than I think general perceptions will change.

I think a lot of this does depend on how old you are. I made the Reading/Brighton comparison earlier in that I was brought up with Reading as a 2nd/3rd tier club (generally 2nd) whereas at the same time Brighton were 3rd/4th and barely staying in the FL. They've only finished above us once (by 1 point) that I can remember. Makes it more difficult for me to believe they are so much bigger because i've seen little evidence of it myself.

Taking into account each club’s average league finish, league attendances, trophies, recent success, and relative potential. I'd say...

Leeds United
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Sheffield Wednesday
Nottingham Forest
Derby County
Blackburn Rovers
Birmingham City
Middlesbrough
Bolton Wanderers
Ipswich Town
Burnley
Fulham
Charlton Athletic
Queens Park Rangers
Cardiff City
Huddersfield Town
Preston North End
Brighton & Hove Albion
Bristol City
Hull City
Reading
Brentford
Rotherham United
Milton Keynes Dons

Football forums through history have always slated Leeds fans going on about size and right here, right now, we have debate over the size of LUFC without any LUFC fans present. Brings a tear to the eye.

Yes looks that way.

Most of us accept you're the biggest in this league though not as big as you lot think.... Though id say for the size of your city the support is shit :)

For what it's worth I'd say we're about 7th in the country all in all around the same area as Everton. Depends how you judge support really...

You're never going to be able to please everyone nor get everyone on the same page for this.

There's an obvious number 1, then every other position is up for debate.

15 years ago, Cardiff, Hull, Fulham etc would be down there with the Brentford and Rotherhams of the world. Reading arguably have had the worst gates out of any of the clubs when at Elm Park, but since the Madesjki era have obvously excelled.

Likewise, once top clubs like the top 5/6 are now faltering into medicority.

It's a funny old game. I never thought I would ever see Bournemouth in the Premiership, who would be rock bottom of this list (aside from the peculiar MK anomaly that no-one knows where to place).
