Very little to comment on in all honesty. Can see they are very well drilled and we’ve hung in ok. Don’t think this is the game for Bennett though, been completely ineffective.

Only real thing of any mild interest was some old fella getting hauled off by the dibble in their main stand.

Because we’ve had the rough end of Brakespear before and that’s biasing us. The more we complain the more chance we might have of getting the soft ones. Also Oliver has been manhandled in the box a fair few times, arm round the neck jobbies

Judging by his red card count I think most teams have had a rough time with him; think we had his son a couple of weeks ago and he was as bad!

Haha yeah most probably, think he’s sent off 7 of ours in his last 8 games involving us

Oliver averages 6 more aerial battles per 90 minutes then any other player in the league, which is mental really (Oliver averages 28.53, next is Matt Harrold on 22.78!).

Outstanding stat, especially as Harrold is our “fuck it, let’s throw him on and start lumping it” emergency last 10 minute protocol when nothing else has worked. Refuse to believe that you hoof it more than Newport, mind.

Correction that was Salisbury’s son!

His cards have been fair but he’s quick to blow up; Bennett’s weak as piss and getting penalised for being too physical.

It's very much of the school of lump it and hope that something comes from it. When it works it's effective but fuck me it's horrific to watch.

Massive massive win and we just do it against the top sides! Goal difference away now!

Perfect away performance, I was worried about Brisley but he won everything today!

Thrilled to bits with that! Great way for Woz to celebrate his new deal.

Missed a couple of huge chances and Vale snatched it on the counter. Bit annoying

Not got a clue how we managed to win that but am made up with that regardless. Really had to tough it out with Northampton constantly getting balls into the box. Feels like a really important win in the development of this team.

I thought Northampton came out well at the beginning of the second half and Brown made a couple of good saves. We came back into it though and once we were ahead, Northampton didn't really trouble us.

That's what you get when you rely on one tactic, they ran out of ideas and it was easy to defend against in the end.

I'm sure Northampton will be in the playoffs at the end of the season but that sort of football is going to see you straight back down. It's effective, but once you've headed away a dozen long balls it becomes predictable.

I wouldn't say smash and grab, there was only about 7 or 8 chances all game and we had 3 of them.

Keeps the season alive for us that.
Brown made some good saves, and we created a couple of decent opportunities when we got it down.
Bennett is not good enough, he has no strength to play up top on his own, we looked a lot better with Pope

Was a bit annoyed we continued with the long throws from anywhere inside Vale’s half, like someone has said it was predictable and when we’ve got wingers like Marshall and Adams we should be trusting them to create something by going short.

Thought Vales centre halves were excellent and it was a great ball in for the goal. Lots of offside appeals from the main stand in the build up, I’m not sure it was (didn’t stop me appealing for it mind you).

Wouldn’t say it was smash and grab as we had about four great chances ourselves and actually had a carbon copy incident to the goal minutes before when Pope didn’t gamble like Worrall did.

We rode out the storm early second half then got the goal and then was pretty solid after.

Strange one Cobblers, Adam Yates mentioned Lines said they don’t play the football for their players and it’s relatively true, they do have the players to mix it up if needed but at no point tried to mix it up and try and pull us out that way and once we got to grips with the wind second half our defenders pretty much won every aerial dual.

Huge win... need to push on Tuesday now.

At least we’ve finally ended the day somewhere other than 10th until FGR midweek at least. What a time to be alive.

Yep, it was a strange one really, as they have the wingers to do something different but just persisted with lumping it. Limitations from the manager in my opinion.

A few unexpected results today but none as surprising as this one. Quite a few sides boast a very decent home record but to my mind the toughest away game of the season is Cobblers, so for Vale to go there and beat them is certainly an impressive result.

I don't know if the other promotion hopefuls were worried about Port Vale before today but they should be taking them seriously from now on. Even devonlad is having second thoughts after today ;)

It’s worked for them I guess in the main. Oddly despite our meh away record 3 of our 4 away wins have been at Crewe, Bradford and Northampton the latter two of the best home sides and you can chuck Cheltenham away in the cup in there too.

Nuts

We’re just that sort of team though. Wait for us to go away to a struggler and we will revert to the other Vale we only know too well. In the meantime at risk of sounding like a broken record right now I will be happy if we can back this up again which we’ve failed to do all season at FGR then can start thinking higher.

I imagine they’ve all been worried about playing us as I think we’ve beaten all the top 10 now apart from Colchester (who we drew). If we could sort the form against the rest we’d be right up there.

We’ve hit form at the right time only 2 defeats in 12 league games now and won 5 since Xmas and with Smith, Manny and Monty back today and Taylor close hopefully it’s falling into place at the right time, lot of work to be done but we’ve given ourselves a chance now, two mega tough games still to play in this run against the top sides so this time next week we will have a better picture of our chances IMO.

People might start taking us seriously now.

Tbf most did bar Devon Lad... I did chuckle after we beat Exeter when their manager referred to his promotion rivals and stated we were one.

It’s all good fun though... happy to keep under the radar if we can keep doing what we are doing.

Fully expecting us to cock it up on Tuesday against a piss poor FGR side. Win that and we should have a cracking attendance on Saturday against Colchester, which would be another huge game. Our record against the top half sides is outstanding.

They’re on the slide ain’t they, should be winning that

Exactly the reason we probably won’t! We’re excellent against teams doing well but woeful against teams that are out of form.

FGR on paper is the perfect opponent as we generally are best when doing the high press so them passing out from the back should suit us to a tee but despite our decent position we’ve only won two in a row once this season I think!

They were dogshit in the reverse fixture. Plan A was long ball from the goal kick down our right hand side to try and loop it over Gibbons. It repeatedly went straight out of touch 10+ times.

First half we battered them and was arguably our best half of the season, second half they dominated and we had to battle it out, good side on the ball but didn’t move it quick enough.

It’s one after yesterday I’d want to be greedy and win but will be another tough game.

Bollocks. One of the best sides to come to Vale all season.

We were just brilliant for an hour or so and took the game to them.

Surely you are mistaken and got your games mixed up ?
FGR easily one of the best 3 sides to come to Vale it was an absolute cracking game of football. Vale were superb that night and FGR were bloody good too

The keeper was rather erratic and a bit of a nut job so maybe he did hit it out of play a few times but that night FGR looked quality
