Disappointed we've lost Doidge to FGR. Showed a lot of promise last season, and his work ethic is probably one of the best I've seen for us which is good as it creates plenty of chances when hassling defenders - something which will become even more frequent in this league. His touch leaves a lot to be desired, and I don't think he's the sort of player who'll be scoring 20 goals in a season (I may be wrong in this league), but he's a good player to have and a good foil for a 2nd striker.

That's good to know, thanks. Our fans have always appreciated players who work their nuts off hassling defenders etc, so I'm sure he'll be popular. Hopefully he can score a few as well, but if his presence helps others get goals that will be good too.

On a side note, we've appointed Scott Lindsey (ex Lincoln, Tamworth and Swindon u18's) assistant manager,
Steve Hale (ex Swindon) goalkeeping coach and Tom Heulin (ex Swindon) as fitness coach.

All seem solid appointments who worked together with Cooper at Swindon.

I've got to say, Tranmere aren't signing the right sort of names to warrant a title challenge IMO.
I liked Cook and Jennings was okay, neither got us out of this league though. We've had better since and still only just scraped out of this hell hole.
Between Norwood, Cook and now Jennings we have a strike force that scored 57 goals at this level last season. I'm not getting carried away but that is a solid foundation to build upon. Our second top scorer last season had 7 and was playing for Shrewsbury since January. Having other people capable of 15+ goals each really will help take the burden off of Norwood.
Bare in mind we kept 10 clean sheets in the last 20 games (19 overall) and have kept the GK, CB's and CM's that built the foundation of that defensive record, so the focus had to be on the attacking end of the pitch.

We're still nowhere near the finished article, but there's a solid base there now. A couple of full backs and a winger or two and we'll be sorted.

I think Lincoln would have been a better move for him, from a football point of view.
This is Brabin we're talking about - he played Maynard as a wide midfielder and right back (where he did actually play quite well to be fair). He'll not be short of game time because he'll be shoehorned in somewhere.

We've signed Christian Assombalonga (brother of Britt). 31 goals in 34 games for Waltham Abbey last season.

Edit: Just seen this has already been posted but oh well, have it again!

We've signed Fabio Saravia who? from Merstham. He scored the first in their 3-1 Surrey Senior Cup win over us. Left midfielder, presumably cheap so suppose it's worth a go with the new loan system coming in to place.

To be fair Mills had him playing as an AM at times last season. He's a good player, gutted to lose him really.

Love how fans on this forum say players are rubbish and replaceable once left! Jennings was rubbish when he signed for us, but he has obviously improved at Wrexham. Now he's signed for a rival he is rubbish? haha
i would be worried if i was a Wrexham fan, Gateshead & Tranmere have taken you're best players

No they haven't haha! :dk:
People will look at Jennings record last season and it will say double figures for goals from midfield, whereas if you look at the stats, a few of them goals were penalties. I wouldn't say we had any "best players" last season, Newton was probably most consistent but even he disappointed me at times.

Smith and York who we released and Fyfield who most thought wasn't up to it and weren't bothered about going. Let's admit it, shrewd Gateshead have done a number on us...

I'm predicting that James Gray will turn out a much better signing for Southport than the ones Gateshead have nabbed and will make more of an impact than Jennings at Tranmere. I predicted that Joe Clarke would be an excellent signing for Kidderminster this time last year, so I'm ace at these kind of forecasts.

Jennings is still a good signing for Tranmere though, you can always depend on him to put in the effort and, although his touch might let him down sometimes, he's got a decent enough football brain on him and can actually play the game. We'll miss him definitely.

Haha I thought exactly the same about Joe Clarke, very underrated here and could do the sublime at times, but then he'd put an easy pass into the stands. No idea how he's ended up (or at least he was) at Brackley Town though..

Given neither you nor Cheltenham are flogging off any of the regulars who got you up, who exactly should we be looking to sign?

Connor Jennings; how much pace has he got? Looks like a decent signing. While he may have been better coached at Lincoln, less upheaval by joining Rovers, only time will tell if he's made the right move for him. Having Brabin as manager is a handicap, but we're still in with afair chance at making the play-offs, maybe better depending on how the squad shapes up.

Can't understand Eastleigh signing Dugdale. A key contributor to our exit from L2 and hardly impressed at Morecambe. Puzzling.

He's not slow but I wouldn't describe him as quick.

You'll get hard work and a winning attitude from Connor (and a lot of whinging, he's one of those) I'm pretty gutted he's gone to be honest. Same as I was with Harris last season!

No knowledge of how he did once back with Wilkin, but I like to think that Clarke single handedly kept Brackley Town in the Vanarama North.

Clarke's strength, apart from his 100% effort, was surging forward and attacking from midfield and I would have kept him at The Racecourse. I've always assumed that Kidderminster tried to play him in a role he wasn't really suited to for him to end up such a complete flop.

Me either to be honest, they stayed up so yeah he was clearly running the show!
Yeah an attacking midfielder would have been a good role for him because he's quite good just outside the box like his goal against Torquay and then in the box he can hit a wonder strike like he did against Oxford and thennnn he can do glorious things while running with the ball like his goal vs Alfreton a few seasons ago.. I love Joe Clarke. :hail:

You don't need to sign players that have won this league or even played in it. Amond & Bogle hadn't played at this level, in fact a lot of our best players had never played National League football before joining us. Some of the worst players we ever signed were in the 'got promoted from this league' mould.

Unfortunately your manager doesn't understand that.
