Olly Mehew, an 18 year old striker who had been deemed surplus to requirements by Bristol Rovers, the son of former Rover Dave Mehew. Cooper has signed a few younger players, who are probably a bit of a risk, but maybe this is part of his master plan. I still think we are short of a goalkeeper, a defender or two and probably a striker. We have a lot of midfielders!

In the press release it says;
Head of Youth Scott Bartlett has played a key role in Mehew’s recruitment, and while the Bristolian will very much be part of the first team set-up alongside fellow first year pro and Academy graduate Joe Stokes; under plans being introduced by new manager Cooper, Bartlett will also have a hand in Mehew’s continued development.

Suggests that we might be looking at forming some sort of development squad, with Bartlett's coaching duties extending beyond the academy. If that is the case expect to see a few more promising youngsters snapped up as well as the last few bits of the jigsaw for the first team.

Yes mate, league 2 standard and miles to good for conference south,1 of only 4 players we offered a contract, wanted to move back south and that's hell of a signing.

Good to hear. I'd heard he wanted to move South but I thought he'd have gone to a fellow Premier Club. Heard good things about him, but only seen him play in 2008!

Also heard we are after Connor Essam. If we can pull that off, that should be a cracking centre back pairing. Got a feeling he will stick with Kenny Clark though.

Don't think we will sign many players this pre season to be honest. 3 or 4 maybe.

You may be right there. We have several first team squad members who are tender in years, if you include Stokes, McGrory and several of those recently signed, so maybe this signals a real intent to develop either our own talent or those cast off from elsewhere. I trust Scotty, and am impressed with what I have seen from him so far, clearly the new manager takes a similar view.

We have signed Matt McClure from Dagenham and Redbridge.
Made of glass, Wycombe fans warned us he was injury prone and last season he was out for most of it, glad we did not take up the option for another year.

Well if we're playing 3-5-2, which is pretty much assured, we've got 7 fit midfielders to fill 5 places plus a 21-year-old prospect, a couple of 18-19-year-olds I'd expect to go out on loan and one out injured until January.

"used to be shire, now he's alright, walking in a Murphy wonderland"

Season before last and the beginning of last season he was class but he's been dog shite for most of the last year tbf. He's a player who, if played regularly, can be very useful at this level. If his confidence drops and he's not playing regularly he seems to find it hard to find form. He's a good player though and I think he's a good signing for you. If he starts well he'll have a good season, if not you either get rid quickly or bear with him and keep playing him.

Scored an excellent winner against us the season you went up.

another 6'4" player - attacking midfield player - joins from Inverness CT on a 2 year deal

Know absolutely nothing about him, but sounds like a good signing. SPL is mostly shit, and ICT have a habit of signing up dozens of English lower league players and never giving them a game, but the fact that Cox has seemed desperate to sign him all along must tell you that he sees him as a vital acquisition.

Cracking signing. Wembley hero for most U's.

He can play as a hold up striker in a front 2 or 3, excellent centre back (not a fullback), probably potential National League standard kepper. He'll love playing midfield, even in a Cox team, and will be excellent.

I'm biased.

Hughes was excellent during Cambridge United`s promotion season. Very good signing.

Yeah he's got a good goal in him, and he's got some outstanding performances in him too. Too often you don't even notice he's on the pitch though.

All encouraging stuff. Cox has said that his teams never start the season well, but I reckon when this side gels we'll be a force to be reckoned with.

Sounds like some of our players in the second half of last season!

Winfield ought to be an excellent signing for Ebbsfleet. One of the very few from last season that most of our fans would have kept.

We're looking very light on experience now, hopefully that will be addressed in the next couple of weeks.

Ashley Grimes has signed for Southport from Barrow. I'm guessing he's not wanted at Holker Street as he's not a 7ft tall carthorse?

best bit of business Barrow have done this closed season - will probably actually score some goals for Southport though....

If Grimes can recapture some of his old form

If Gray can knuckle down and stop being an idiot off the pitch

If Bishop can roll back the years.

If Almond can get a bit of consistency.

Then Southport have got some decent attacking options this season.

that's like saying if Chester actually sign someone they might be able to raise a team ;)
