With regret, yes.
That's strange. I'm guessing either Cowley doesn't like to mess with the foundations too much when he first arrives or he hasn't seen anyone else better at the club that could take that job.

We almost signed him last season, but there were some problems with his club in Holland releasing his registration. He played for us on Sunday for 45 mins, looked a big unit and well away from full fitness, good touch though.

Jordon Preston signed a contract with us today. A quick and very hard working striker from the Blackburn Rovers accadamy. Spent last season on loan at Ayre United scoring twelve goals. Can he do well in the national league? Time will tell.

Raggett, Habergham, Woodyard and Arnold are all very good signings. Getting Rhead to sign back on is also a good signing. Did the first three all require compensation payments?
Raggett will be, not for Habergham (24 when he signed for us), and there's a bit of confusion over Woodyard because when asked, Cowley wasn't really sure. Something to do with what was in his contract. Even if we have to, he was only there for a year, so it'll be nothing too much.

I'm slightly concerned about the Raggett compensation because he's been there since he was 16, so 6 years or so. Then again, I suppose him staying in this division probably works to our advantage.

Is he still your captain? :ffs:
Has been for PSF's but Cowley was pretty non-committal when asked whether Power would retain it for the season, although that comment was at the start of pre-season.

I'm not sure he'd want to give it to one of the new lads, so you're looking at Power, Farman or Wood really.

Give it Wood.. I would. We named Fowler as ours last season but after a poor pre-season he completely lost his place in the side and the captaincy was given to Jennings. I actually can't remember one game where Fowler was given the armband even when he was on the field.

McCombe's new-ish. I know he's been here before, but not around this group.

I'd personally give it to Wood or Woodyard. Power's place isn't guaranteed enough to be captain IMO.

Power should have been transfer listed like Stanley, he isn't good enough for any side wanting a playoff push.
Hasn't scored a goal since October and summed his continued decline over the last 3 seasons.
Hopefully injured for Saturday.

Have Lincoln come into some money? Impressive recent signings and a decent young manager. Like others here, I'm upping my assessment of their prospects for the coming season.

Worrying amount of hype. May need to take a tablet or two in a bit.

No they are funding this on their huge attendances :2thumb:

Im guessing this is the result of the South African investor? And Lincoln deciding to GO FOR IT.

Joking apart Raggett is a bit of a surprise but if no-one was coming in for him Lincoln may have just benefitted from him burning his bridges at Dover. Arnold is a bit of good fortune and a handy location. Woodyard and Habergham (or whatever) have followed the Cowleys. Just some good luck and a willingness to speculate to accumulate. I don't see many of those players needing huge paychecks. Most are coming from part time teams so the lure of a full time contract at a relatively largish club with an ambitious manager may have done it.

Same budget as last season according to the fans forum and chairman a while ago. Though I do know the board have said that if a special player came along they would make extra efforts to back the manager(s). Just think with the Cowleys doing a decent job at recruiting and the Crowdfunder currently adding nearly £30,000 to the budget we have spent the cash wisely. Probably one more in but several to go out yet I reckon leaving a squad around 20-21.

They will return slowly but surely if we start doing things a lot better on and off the pitch. It's hardly been a happy place for around 10 years?

Heard we were interested in Raggett, but Lincoln BLEW US OUT OF THE WATER with their offer.

How are clubs supposed to compete when it's such an unlevel playing field? The FA need to do something about these reckless overspenders.

I heard he laughed at your offer because he wanted to play for a PROPER football club.

See, we can both talk shit.

We've done well raiding Clubs in the PO's last season. The Cowley's, Woodyard, Miles, Habergham, Raggett and Arnold!

There's an SA guy who's putting an extra circa £100k into the budget for the next 5 years, so that's where a decent amount is coming from. Aside from that, though, the Crowdfunder will probably end up raising about £35k-£40k, plus other fundraising bits probably takes it to £45k-£50k. ST sales are also up.

If you haven't got rid of players yet surely they won't be going?
Chris Bush has left, Craig Stanley has quite a lot of interest in him and will be leaving and we've got two out on loan already (admittedly young lads not on massive wages). A couple of the other young lads will attract interest. We generally have no problem loaning out the 18-21 year olds to Boston, Gainsborough etc.

With Raggett signing, we'll have to shed a CB as well in either Howe on loan or Waterfall on loan or a free.

Don't want to drag this thread too far off topic but Alan Power isn't that bad. He just needs to be banned from shooting.

Signing no 14 now official. Fabien Robert, 27, AM, ex Lorient and Swindon. Played 35 games for Swindon in League 1 last season, and also has played 57 times in Ligue 1 in France. Should be decent at this level going on that.

https://www.forestgreenroversfc.com/news/first-team-news/2016/fabien-robert-adds-to-french-flavour

Youtubed him, found this. He must be good.

You did see that he's Laurent Robert's brother, right? Surely that's the most important thing about him.

He's nowhere near good enough for what we're trying to achieve. He should have been released two seasons ago yet has somehow scraped by with a barrel-load of average at best performances, probably because Simpson/Moyses inexplicably loved him.
