Very happy with the signing of Sam Russell, superb keeper the times I've seen him. We couldn't keep two keepers of that standard on the books, but still gutted to see Bartlett go, he really has been excellent.

We've also released 11 including Valentin Gjokaj who should've been kept, the rest (excluding Bartlett and the injured JJ) range from average to rubbish, nearly all are Mills signings last preseason.

Who are the others you have released? Wonder if any will join up with Mills at our place?

We were apparently in for him, but it seemed no more than a bit of gossip for a week or so.

Danny East signs one year deal
Bit of an unknown quantity. Not too many appearances to his name and had a bit of a reputation as a party boy in Hull. A couple of my Hull supporting mates said the few times they saw him he looked good, though. Not one to really bowl us over, but then neither was Craig Clay who turned out to be a decent signing.

Aye don't really know much about him, apparently can play all across the back 4, so seems like a utility defender that we need as back up if others get injured. Wait and see, not an exciting signing by any means, but will hopefully play his part as Clay did last season.

Generally happy with it, don't know anything about him but with our defence already being so settled he'll hopefully just slot in and adapt accordingly. Won't be very expensive either.

PH has got a very good record of signing decent players for us, especially defenders. He's doesn't buy many duds.

Barnes-Homer as well as McGinty?:eyes:

Looks like the Shots aren't coming back up next season...

McGinty is a very good signing at this level. Brilliant for us on loan at the back end of last season - probably not cut out for L1 just yet.

We've signed former Luton and Newport striker Aaron O'Connor.

Yeah he does seem to have had a few injuries, but he still got 11 goals in league 2 last season which is more then any of our current players (other then Parkin) managed in the Conference. Hopefully he can stay fit.

Williams has gone to Stevenage under Teddy Sheringham. Interesting.

Williams' attitude at certain points during last season would have me worried - just over 10 goals from open play in the Conference last season too - albeit in a pretty poor side.

Depends on a number of factors really, but maybe the move to Stevenage will do him good.

Not the most talented player but he'll certainly give his all. I thought we might have kept hold of him due to his versatility but Cook obviously thinks differently. If he stays injury free he should be a good signing at Conference level.

On paper a class signing. He strikes me as the type of player who will still be rapid and have quick feet well into his 30's. If he stays fit then is one of the best strikers in the league without a doubt.

I'm fairly optimistic about our striking options now, we have Parkin, Sam-Yorke, O'Connor, Marwood and Guthrie, plenty of opportunities to revolve players and cover for injury or loss of form. I still think we need a right-sided midfielder, but that shouldn't be too hard a position to fill as it is usually much more difficult to cover the left side of the pitch. I'm starting to look forward to the pre-season friendlies and seeing the new players in action.

O'Connor and Parkin is potentially a lethal combo. I feel like you're probably gonna be right, MD. However, there is obviously a chance he might not be able to recover his Newport form.

Doesn't sound as though he is being brought in necessarily as Magnay's replacement. Wouldn't be surprised if we're still in for a dedicated RB. East is perhaps more of a Parslow replacement/upgrade (hopefully).

Got round to watching the Gowling interview, too. Kiddy fans any idea how much he was on there? Took a pay cut to sign for us apparently.

Edit: Sam Russell, banging signing too. Fair play Heed. However, we laid our Russell hoodoo to rest a while back. I'd actually say that in Bartlett he's arguably replacing the keeper who has put in the best away performance of the last couple of seasons at Blundell Park in last season's playoff semi first leg. Is he still at Gateshead?

Not sure exactly, but I read somewhere that he was our highest earner, probably around £850 - £1k per week. Despite all the players we've lost, he'll be the one we miss most next season.

Keeper Andy Coughlin signs for Southport which is a great move for the lad considering he will be the no.1 playing every week and he lives in Liverpool. He should do pretty well for them.

Who have Wrexham got lined up to be their keeper? Can understand Andy Coughlin moving on, given he wasn't going to be no 1. Seemed ok when playing for Rovers reserves, but wasn't given a chance after being let down big time by our defence. Gained a lot of experience since and a good deal for Southport.

Bobby Joe Taylor signed for Maidstone apparently. Got themselves a good player there. Obviously, his playing time was limited here as he's still a young inexperienced player, but he showed promise whenever he played. Good luck to the lad.
