Louis Almond? Think we had him on loan, maybe in the Holdsworth years. Very forgettable. We had so many players that season that it's hard to remember who was who.

Think they're on about Padraig Amond, ex-Morecambe.

A decent record in the league and good reviews from Morecambe fans. Good signing imo, looks like he could grab 15-20 at this level.

Grimsby are an experienced target man away from having a very good strike force there I reckon.

'Target man' often has negative connotations, but somebody to hold the ball up and bring others into play is more appropriate. Then again, the likes of Monkhouse are quite good at doing that sort of thing and we didn't really play with a target man at all towards the end of the season. Still, think it would be good for them if they had that option.

Aldershot have signed Luke Oliver, who we released at the end of last season.

Happy with Amond, don't know a great deal about him, but others seem to rate him and a regular in Lge 2 for the last 4 seasons averaging around 10 goals a season should see him get around 15 in the conference you would think.

Along with Bogle if he makes the step up and Pittman if he stays fit, we certainly should have goals this season.

Surprising to see Bencherif sign for Halifax. Must have pushed the boat out for that one.

Good signing, though. Played as CB, DM, CM and attacking midfield here last season! Strongest is probably CB, strong at set pieces, not got the mobility to play CM, particularly in a 2.

I thought Bencherif looked very average at centre back when Lincoln lost 3-0 at Macc in January but I guess it was only one game. He was brilliant for us in central midfield years ago in League 2 but I'm not sure he's got the mobility anymore to play there?

Hamza is one of those players that frustrates, can be very good, but also loses his head and will always be a card waiting to happen. He doesn't have that much pace, but he does have an eye for the odd goal. Not a bad signing for Halifax, however I do question his commitment and loyalty.

Aldershot have signed Luke Oliver, who we released at the end of last season.

I expect it will be announced later, but at the moment only the reporter for the local paper has announced it. Any thoughts on him?

Don't report stuff if you aren't sure of the source, you will only end up looking like a prat and nobody will believe a word you write in future.

Oh hang on, you meant Luke Oliver and not your local hack. He was a bit of a marmite player when he was with us. He started off a bit slowly, a bit like Peter Crouch in stature but not quite as good with the ball at his feet, but far better when his confidence improved. Have to admit that I didn't think he was quite as bad as many others did, unsurprisingly for a bloke who is so tall he won a lot of defensive headers, a bit unlucky with getting injured just at the time we signed Charlie Clough and there was absolutely no way he was ever going to displace either him or Racine to get back in the team.

He's a big unit and 6'7" so he's pretty decent in the air, and can be a threat from set pieces. Much like the majority of big cb's he's far more effective when facing the ball, as he lacks pace, is slow to turn and can often look cumbersome up against pacy strikers.

Played to his strengths he can be a useful player, especially on Tuesday nights in January up north when you need someone who can stick their head on things.

Get this guy, as though anyone forgets about the FGR cloggers. :pmsl:

Amongst the fishing, there is a bit of sense in this post. FGR can go out and get any CB they like around this division and Oliver, who was once not a bad player, is past it now. A lot of out fans wanted him to sign for us and I'm glad we didn't. Slow, immobile and wouldn't suit our style of play. Probably not that cheap either. He might do well at Aldershot if Barry Smith plays direct football.

Crikey, how shit do you have to be too get released by Forest Green :fing:

We've just confirmed he (and Sam Hatton) have signed for next year. If he is a big tall defender it might be what we need when playing away in this division. Hopefully when Oastler is fit again it will mean that he can play Right Back, with Oliver/Saville as our CB partnership which hopefully will do the job for us.

As for Hatton, its good to see he has taken a wage cut to stay, although im not over the moon we have re-signed him. Had a few good games last season but a lot of games where his passing was terrible. That said he can take a penalty and his performance at Alfreton was probably the best individual performance by any of our players all season!

Looked better in midfield as once he played in defence was often caught for pace. Dont forget we let a lot of goals last season.
Odd that our players who have left have pretty much signed for teams who finished above us in the table, dont what that tells you about our players, manager or what but from February our form was terrible, had the lot of 'em been tapped up?

It's quite sweet how Grimsby are so full of confidence really. Some of us have lost play off finals as well as had second place finishes before so we don't get so carried away with it all. I suppose we should let them have their fun before the league kicks off and they are losing at home to Bromley and reality sets in again.
Ha .. are the bookies still taking bets on Grimsby?

Possibly not, but I don't think many expected Barnet to run away with the league last year either - I thought they'd do well but not that well. Hurst does seem to have a bad habit of having a 'poor spell' in the season, hopefully that can be avoided this year but I think it's too early to say that the contenders 'aren't looking as strong'.
Just a small point of order: Barnet never "ran away" with the league, they finished with 92 points, BRFC finished with 91 points, and half the defeats!! Thanks UTG

Half our defeats but look at all those draws eh :bdick:

Just think... Could call yourselves champions if only you'd not shat yourselves against Dover.

Hurst has said we are looking for one more striker who has a more physical presence and he has someone in mind.

Yeah, at the end of the play off final Rovers fans all looked devestated that they had ONLY gone up through the play offs........

What is he, a fucking fridge? How does one "stick" one's "head" on "things", is an adhesive required, and how does this help? Possibly the most insightful football comment ever made by a Tin Potter. :bdick:

Well clearly the Rovers fan was looking to belittle the achievement of the Champions, just thought I'd remind them of how things panned out last season.

What's the point bigging yourself up because you had half the defeats if you still finished lower than Barnet? It makes no sense unless he's trying to make some point about how great and mighty Rovers are.

It's ironic that the 2 teams in the play-off final both had managers who a good proportion of their fans rated as distinctly average.

Does it therefore follow that if either of those teams had had a Steve Burr or a Neil Aspin, they would have pissed it.
