Heard any rumours on the figure for Lewis? Only heard one and that was 25k. Interesting if true, although I don't believe it was that much. Could be true though, I guess we will never know!

As it happened, we did end up needing a left back! Joe Howe dislocated his shoulder away at Braintree. Got Jefford on loan from Welling for a month though.

Not particularly, I'd have thought around 10/15k. 25k would be ridiculous!

Oh, fair enough. I imagine coming back to Woking made sense for him though. A club going well in Conference Premier and one that he has made just under 100 appearances for.

Could mean Arthur moves on/goes out on loan. Wasted budget otherwise...

Yes, perhaps. Or Goddard who isn't a winger and prefers to play more centrally.

Im a big fan of Goddard though, would hate to see him leave - whereas Arthur is far too inconsistent for my liking (although he might be suited as an out and out winger despite his poor delivery)
The way I see it this is our best team -
Cole
Jones. Clarke. McNerney. Thomas
Banya. Payne Ricketts. Betsy
Rendell. Lafayette (Sole)
This leaves -
Little
Newton
Goddard
Odubade
Sole
Arthur
Nutter
1 of them will/should leave IMO unless Lafayette goes back after a month

As am I but he's not going to get into the team, at the moment, playing in a central position and with Banya, Betsy, Odubade and Arthur all 'wingers' I can't see why he'd be ahead of them in the pecking order. I'm also unsure as to whether it is best for Betsy to be playing 90 minutes every week, especially with Jones at right-back. Newton at RM keeps our width and also helps out Jones who is not a natural full-back. I'd like to see Betsy coming on in the last 15/20 minutes of games and really getting at the opposition full-back and stretching their defence. Also worth mentioning that if Arthur was to go out on loan we'd struggle for a second choice left-back with non-contract Nutter frequently unavailable and wouldn't be match-fit.

We also need to shift Murtagh out on-loan to some Conference South side.

I'd make one change for Saturday's game vs Barnet - Thomas in for Arthur.
Bench: Little (or Goddard), Sole, Arthur, Odubade and Betsy.

What's happened?

Seem to recall him being a good defender...

Edit. Just seen the BBC article on it. Good luck to him.

Indeed he is, or was, a good defender but you have to respect a man who makes a decision like that. Eddie was a very popular player at the club, I heard from another fan that he frequently made himself available to help with training the youth team, earning plaudits from all involved. I guess he just reached the point where he wanted to jump now, and direct his energy into a different career, rather than carry on playing football and maybe end up doing something that he was less enthusiastic about when his playing days were done.

He has my very best wishes.

Goddard has to be there ahead of Odubade imo, although it is nice to have a selection headache for a change

Forest Green Defender Eddie Oshodi has quite Football.... at 23!

His last move as a footballer was starting a brawl at the Shay. He admitted himself into Watford General Hospital much later that night with a broken hand after punching a wall. He's shown no remorse and thrown away a well paid career. Poetic justice really.

We have signed goalkeeper Tom Flynn from Hibs on non contract terms after Willis loan from Sheff Utd ended.

I'm happy we've added a creative midfielder. I just hope it doesn't mean that Evans isn't going to a regular from now on.

The back tracking is somewhat brilliant. Hopefully he'll aid your massively under achieving side..

I know it's very confusing for Lew, but it's called a sustainable budget. I know, it's crazy that we can afford want we pay. What a world.

What's confusing is that you honestly believe you're any different to the rest of us. It's tragic.

A side with one of the top budgets in this league isn't sustainable, the crowds simply are not big enough to support almost all the budgets in this league, especially a side under performing like your own. Yet you're the only lot denying it, it's sad.

Well we've just had our agm and we are debt free and we are sustainable. Just because your club doesn't bother to try it, doesn't mean we can't do it.

Never thought I'd stick up for our greatest rivals, but 12 or 13 years ago Grimsby were in the Championship and despite £500K a year from Fenty and the new investment you're not exactly burning a trail back to the League. The truth is Wrexham and ourselves are different from you. We spend what we generate.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but how are Wrexham sustainable when they recorded a loss of 350k last season?

the sustainable phrase was a quote direct from one of the board at the AGM

Different from us in the sense that one of you went bust and the other went into administration?

The fact we were in the championship is a irrelevant. It doesn't mean we should somehow have more money, in fact quite the opposite. The ITV digital collapse coupled with a double relegation makes it a minor miracle we didn't take the easy option out (like you lot for instance...) Fenty subsidises us, you'll not find a single Town fan deny it, so I'm kinda missing whatever point you're trying to make?

Not defending Lew on your budget but making a profit doesn't make you sustainable, we made a profit 2 years ago too.

Can't see how a club with conference crowds can be sustainable in this league unless the budget is tiny.

The only one who ever brings up this argument is you know who. Still jealous and pining over the Jennings signing I think, you can have him back, he's nothing special.

We do alright but it's too early to tell if it is sustainable in the conference as I believe we are still getting some parachute payments for our academy.

And you bite each time. I struggle to see how I could be jealous of a side who are performing so badly.

He spouts off about something he knows nothing about and then gets pulled up to prove what he's going on about and what a surprise, he can't. It begins to look like the infamous Ched Evans thread all over again. But wait.....

He frantically scratches the old brainbox, thinking of a way out of this mess. Beads of sweat dripping off the forehead as he desperately searches for a way out with an acceptable exit comment. With all options exhausted he had no choice but to return to the old faithful and claim "fishing" and looking for "bites".

By the looks of things they made a loss last year due to an extra ordinary item of sacking a management team. This year they'll make a profit due to the extra ordinary item of the cup run. So the underlying business, if they have a top half finish in a season is pretty much break even by the looks of things. I'd say it's fair to call that sustainable.

And to claim that "no one can be sustainable in this league without a tiny budget" is utter bollocks. Easy to say this as a reformed club I know, but there's a fair few clubs in this league managing to be sustainable and challenge.

So in short, Grimsby make a massive loss every year so can't fathom how people can manage a budget and not monumentally fuck up getting out of the league.
