Naa clean energy technology is going to get better and better until it wont make sense burning fossil fuels.

Stagat Where I live people still kid themselves that the air is clean just because it isnt as bad as Beijing. So mostly no masks, no air filters and windows wide open no matter what the pollution index says because 'closing the windows is unhealthy'

I've gotton so used to wearing a mask it doesn;t even bother me now, mask on outside, plus a really good air filter in my house and I hope it doesnt kill me too early.

Dunno mate, the fossil fuels industry is too big a machine to take down so simply as finding a feesable alternative.

Like Stags, I can see the planet giving up before then.

Aye, hopefully Nuclear Fusion finally becomes a workable reality

I'm not sure Sl1k, if you have a clear alternative there'll be a lot of pressure on governments, especially if its cheaper. Plus the other companies with greener energy will be looking to make bug bucks. Fossil fuels cannay go on for ever

I'm not a libetrian nut job but the free market will take care of it.

Corruption and what not isn't able to completely destroy reaonable debate. Right now with any common sense we'd be investing more in renewable energy but we just havent reached the tipping point. At some point clean energy will be cheaper, and more realiable than burning oil, coal. It just might take some time.

It's too intertwined with politics for it to only be a matter of economics. Call me a pessimist, but it ain't happening for shizzle anytime soon.

Aye, sure hope so. And it's gonna have to eventually. But it won't be for a while yet, I don't think. And not soon enough for the dust mask thing to go away anytime soon.

I certainly think the dust masks though are going to get more widespread yet before they lessen. You already wear one so often it doesn't bother you. What a state to get a planet in, really. FFS.

It is but as we've seen with the Nuclear Fission plant Osbourne wants to build theres a lot of money in Nuclear power so hopefully we can develop Fusion and push it forwards that eay

I remember him putting money up for funding nuclear research and development last year so that's a start I guess, only a matter of time before such programes bare fruit innit.

Of course, still a small one mind you. If we can get wind, solar and hydro all pumped up and producing more energy we'd be in business though imo.

We would be but I think I'm right in saying Fusion is a more realistic way of producing the mass of power we need

More realistic short term, I think long term we should be looking at beefing up the three mentioned though.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
If it's cheaper, it'll win.

But currently the government are pulling as much Eco funding as they can on the face of 'saving money for hardworking families' by stopping energy companies having to pay environmental levies.

Nuclear power, whilst most effective, is obviously extremely dangerous too. However, the sheer amount of time you'd spend producing energy with renewable sources (wind, solar), is not manageable.

Eventually, one day, the world will wake up and realise "oh no, we're out of fossil fuels" and only then will things change. With how rapidly the rate we're using them is going up, I'm guessing it will be in the not too distant future.

You clearly have no idea what nuclear fusion is. Fission is dirty and undesirable long term and should be seen as a short term solution along with solar, wind etc.

Fusion will basically change the world when it happens. It's clean, safe, will give us limitless power and as an additional bonus gives us helium as a byproduct which we are going to need to mine on the moon if we dont stop filling baloons with it.

Unfortunaly amercians and I guess us spend more money annually on products for pets than reasrching fusion so it might be a while coming.

I was really worried about the energy crisis so I'm bloody glad to see that a football forum has all the answers. It's like reading the economist.

The trouble is the good half of the UK will be underwater by that time.

Not really, it's still a finite fuel source.

Isn't hydrogen the most abundant element in the universe?

Yes in a literal sense its finite but in reality (assuming technolgy is created to gather it) its inexhaustible.

My understanding is you need tritium, which means you need lithium, which is a rapidly declining resource.

I think the tritium-dueterium one is meant to be the most advanced so far but people are still looking at duet-duet due to the finite lithium.

Most of us aren't football managers either but still give our opinions on tactics

That's a great comparison because being able to provide a moderately successful solution to the direction of a football game and being able to provide a moderately successful solution to world energy concerns are essentially interchangeable - and no one ridicules people for thinking they know better than top football managers anyway.

I think everyone is well aware that transitioning away from a fossil fuel based society isn't a simple as saying lets do it. We are all well aware that renewable energy technology isn't quite there yet, fusion is still a long way off and fission is far from ideal.

The frustration and ,therefore pointing out how easily we could change, comes from the fact there is very little will or effeort from the political class, business and the general poplulation to get this technology as quickly as possible, make the best of what we have now and reduce our emissions as much as feasibly possible while we are still reliant on fossil fuels.

!00's of thousands of people possibly millions die yearly from pollution related ilnesses, millions more will die from the enviromental catastrophe coming. We all simply need to do more.

I think cash will be much less commonly used, to the point of many people not using it at all.
