Slightly concerning they’ve said other National League clubs are at it as well - they need shaming ‘en all.

Be rate. Not sure what all this fake outrage is about, businesses around the country will have been abusing the system for months. If this isn't what the government had in mind when this was introduced then tough shit, get us out of house arrest and open up the country! Every chance that the folk moaning about it probably support a club doing the exact same. Our crime seems to be being open about it.

I've noticed whenever we do something we seem to recieve a lot Stockport based opinions as well, i have missed something there? Seems a bit weird....

Oh dear. This has gone down on social media about as well as a shite in a swimming pool.

To sign a load of new players, including at least one for a decent fee, then place the players they have replaced on furlough using Government cash seems a little... against the spirit of things, to put it incredibly mildly.
The government doesn't have to pay it. It has to be signed off by their accountants and they're legally bound to recommend that it's an abuse of the system. When this is over expect HMRC to make a few high profile examples of unscrupulous companies.

Not sure what Chessie have done wrong. If it’s within the rules, absolutely no doubt every club is already doing it or will do now they know they can do it.

Well done Chesterfield.

Can’t believe they’ve made it public, not surprised they’ve done it though football has no morals.

Well done Chesterfield.

Your not sure what they’ve done wrong? You’re fishing or don’t pay taxes. The furlough scheme is to help avoid redundancy not furlough staff not good enough whilst employing some better ones. Jesus.

As a taxpayer I’m fully aware of how much is wasted, particularly by this government during this pandemic. A non league club putting a few of their stiffs out to grass for a bit is small fry in comparison.

Seems that your fans are in agreement with this and are miffed because you didn’t think of it first.

Embarrassing overreaction from a select few on this forum once again, and no surprise closet spireite and James Rowe super fan clem fandango is straight on the case, but can’t say I’m surprised..

Personal view is that of course it doesn’t sit right seeing the scheme being exploited in this way, and my feelings are no different just because it’s the club I support. However, as others have said, we aren’t the only club that’s doing this, nor will we be the last... it’s an absolute no brainer if it falls within the rules of the scheme, which it clearly must do otherwise we’d be breaking the law? And given that we’ve publicly announce that, I guess that indicates that it isn’t..

Will they publish a list of all players put on furlough.
Doubtful, but it’s fairly obvious who it will be. I’d say any/if not all of the below:

Scott Boden
David Buchanan
Johnathon Smith
Nathan Tyson (Possibly..)

I’m very confident on the first 3, and if that is the case, I’d say that’s 3 of our highest earners at the club placed on the scheme..

Which other clubs are doing it? As soon as the national press get hold of this you’ll be slaughtered, already a laughing stock on social media.

Overreaction much?

Be interesting to see who the other NL clubs are that are doing the exact same thing.

Be quite funny if it happens to be the clubs of those showing so much emotion on Twitter.

Just read on Twitter from Chesterfield journo that they have put unwanted players on furlough.

Just when you thought that club couldn’t get anymore snakey. Absolutely outrageous to be using tax payers money to pay unwanted players. What a scummy club they have become recently.

Beg to differ with your 'recently' take, mate. And your 'have become' one too actually.

I really don't like that Chesterfield have done this but there is absolutely nothing to suggest that this is illegal.

I mean it looks a lot worse because of the recent signings they've made, but like it or hate it, it clearly must be above board because there is no way they'd announce it with such confidence unless they've had it checked and double checked by the appropriate people.

There’s no point in us having thought of it because we haven’t signed a new team in the last month, so there’s no one to furlough.

I would have some sympathy for any clubs doing it because they’re struggling with the costs of playing without fans. But it should mean you’re under a transfer embargo - that’s the part of what Chesterfield have done that is shit. They’re effectively using public money to subsidise new signings.

If it turned out my club are doing I’d find it just as scummy if not more so.

The ‘other people are doing it’ defence is never a strong defence.

If it isn’t against the law then that’s down to more Tory incompetence.

I'm a fan and I think it's fraud and would happily see them or Notts if we did it prosecuted.
The scheme was never set up to pay for the reserve team.
It's certainly wasn't designed to allow you to sign new players, effectively for free.

The scheme is to stop businesses folding ,employees becoming unemployed. The idea that you get the government to pay for the stiffs while you go shopping for a shiny new player sounds pretty fraudulent to me.
Any chance the NL has of begging for funds and grants goes right out the window with that behaviour.

If a business doesn't need certain employees to function at the moment then they put them on furlough. The argument is why should a football be club be any different any other type of company. If the options are furlough, or take out a loan to pay employees you don't need then spend years paying the loan back, then it's a no-brainer. If the season gets cancelled as it should do then every club will do this and it won't be seen as a problem.

‘Other people are doing it’ wasn’t an excuse, it was an observation.

Football clubs are well within their rights to benefit from this system aslong as they do so within the rules. As you’ve pointed out, if anyone takes issue with it, the anger should be aimed at those who designed the rules and regulations for the furlough scheme...
