Sending a few players out on loan doesn't take them off the wage bill entirely. You would still probably have had to pay a fair % of their wages. At this point any team with players out on loan might as well recall them and immediately furlough them to save some money. We’ve signed a few, shipped a few out and have made attempts to trim the wage bill but probably have been stumped by the suspension of Step 2 as most of the players we wanted off our books would be heading there. We’d got 4 out on loan in NLN who have since returned so I suspect they’re nailed on the be furloughed as they definitely won’t be needed in our squad.
It’s creative that’s one way of putting it, and I’ve absolutely no idea if we will be allowed to do it, though our CEO says others are doing it already so it looks like it’s acceptable.
You are of course correct. Obviously they are surplus to requirements hence being out on loan so if following furlough to the letter can;t word due to Covid, which is where I think we could justify them being furloughed.Sending a few players out on loan doesn't take them off the wage bill entirely. That is about only sensible I’ve seen, but teams near bottom will not want to play.Would it be an option for step two to come back in, say, April or May to play the ten or so games needed for everyone to have played each other once? Obviously not ideal, but would require far less funding and potentially even allow for some fans if things go well, while keeping some kind of integrity to the league structure with promotion and relegation.
I've just seen a list of the players we are potentially furloughing.
The Met Office have since issued a severe weather warning for floods in Stockport due to the tears expected.
You just have to accept that now you are the leagues villains for WHAT YOU DID.
And we’ve seen what happened to Guiseley. Chesterfield better beware. It'll never top what Guiseley did but it's certainly one to remember. Who could ever forget it, I'm getting angry just thinking about it, I can't even...wow.
You must be running short of brown envelopes now surely. If we bring in Yussuf I'm happy to accept that we are the Villains.
We are about to turn on full on shithouse mode today I feel. Then get beat by Kings LynnYou must be running short of brown envelopes now surely.
If we bring in Yussuf I'm happy to accept that we are the Villains.
I don't know to be honest. What's the financial model at your place with your new ownership? The take over involved 1million in loans didn't it? How do you generate money?
This isn't a loaded question, when our trust owned us it was all about getting rid of debt and running at a profit, which hampered us at times but this was also a period we were getting 5k crowds. I just wondered how you were financing all this stuff?

So loans from councils, then furlough unwanted players.I don't know to be honest.
The takeover involved 3 local councils loaning the club money with repayment holidays and low interest so the Trust have started the money in the bank and a bit of breathing space as they acquired the club debt free (and took on new debt from the loans).
I assume they are trying to get us back in the FL before we start paying back our loans to the council. From that point of view they're taking a gamble.
We have a wage bill of c.£1m which believe it or not we have attempted to reduce - but some big earners (Weston,Evans, Rowley, Yarney etc) are under contract until the end of the season, I think the summer will really see us kick on once we've got 40% of the budget freed up and they are off the wage bill or on reduced terms. Rowley has just signed a new deal with a significant paycut which is a great move as well as Kiwomya, Tyler Denton, Letheren and others all moving on.
Obviously the new ground is open pretty much 365 days a year and was a profitable business with good turnover on it's own with the corporate side of things and the hospitality/banqueting. I assume we are getting payments from loss of earnings etc which obviously doesn't need to be ploughed into that side of the business whilst it is closed so potentially money into the footballing side of things.
But in answer to your question, who knows. We obviously have more money than people thought but quite where that is coming from is anybody's guess.

No but we have been known to severely injure the odd puppySo loans from councils, then furlough unwanted players.
Do you have a rota for mugging old ladies on the way to matches.
Come on most of them were vulnerable .Chesterfield, our new pantomime villains, have managed to get half of their team vaccinated now.
Dodgy Chesterfield screwing the system again then.
