Why don't they just pay 'em via brown envelopes again?

I've just seen a list of the players we are potentially furloughing.

The Met Office have since issued a severe weather warning for floods in Stockport due to the tears expected.

Good to see people still up in arms over this.

Genuinely amusing at this point.

We’ve signed a few, shipped a few out and have made attempts to trim the wage bill but probably have been stumped by the suspension of Step 2 as most of the players we wanted off our books would be heading there. We’d got 4 out on loan in NLN who have since returned so I suspect they’re nailed on the be furloughed as they definitely won’t be needed in our squad.

It’s creative that’s one way of putting it, and I’ve absolutely no idea if we will be allowed to do it, though our CEO says others are doing it already so it looks like it’s acceptable.
Sending a few players out on loan doesn't take them off the wage bill entirely. You would still probably have had to pay a fair % of their wages. At this point any team with players out on loan might as well recall them and immediately furlough them to save some money.

You are of course correct. Obviously they are surplus to requirements hence being out on loan so if following furlough to the letter can;t word due to Covid, which is where I think we could justify them being furloughed.

Only 1 of the 4 who were out on loan in NLN were on the list of 4 players I have seen (Butterfield who was at Guiesley). Another is a long term injury (Coddington who's been out for nearly 12 months). I think furloughing people who are on long term stick might tip certain posters from north of Buxton over the edge though so let's not mention that.

Would it be an option for step two to come back in, say, April or May to play the ten or so games needed for everyone to have played each other once? Obviously not ideal, but would require far less funding and potentially even allow for some fans if things go well, while keeping some kind of integrity to the league structure with promotion and relegation.
That is about only sensible I’ve seen, but teams near bottom will not want to play.
Seen a note that funding stops April, would that means club would not get furlough from that date and will have to pay contracts of players till end of May.

It'll never top what Guiseley did but it's certainly one to remember. Who could ever forget it, I'm getting angry just thinking about it, I can't even...wow.

And we’ve seen what happened to Guiseley. Chesterfield better beware.

Fill us in then. I'll pass it on so we have something to aim for when we make our next move which I heard was taking all the free school meals off everyone and tossing them in the sea

If we bring in Yussuf I'm happy to accept that we are the Villains.

What's the financial model at your place with your new ownership? The take over involved 1million in loans didn't it? How do you generate money?

This isn't a loaded question, when our trust owned us it was all about getting rid of debt and running at a profit, which hampered us at times but this was also a period we were getting 5k crowds. I just wondered how you were financing all this stuff?

I don't know to be honest.

The takeover involved 3 local councils loaning the club money with repayment holidays and low interest so the Trust have started the money in the bank and a bit of breathing space as they acquired the club debt free (and took on new debt from the loans).

I assume they are trying to get us back in the FL before we start paying back our loans to the council. From that point of view they're taking a gamble.

We have a wage bill of c.£1m which believe it or not we have attempted to reduce - but some big earners (Weston,Evans, Rowley, Yarney etc) are under contract until the end of the season, I think the summer will really see us kick on once we've got 40% of the budget freed up and they are off the wage bill or on reduced terms. Rowley has just signed a new deal with a significant paycut which is a great move as well as Kiwomya, Tyler Denton, Letheren and others all moving on.

Obviously the new ground is open pretty much 365 days a year and was a profitable business with good turnover on it's own with the corporate side of things and the hospitality/banqueting. I assume we are getting payments from loss of earnings etc which obviously doesn't need to be ploughed into that side of the business whilst it is closed so potentially money into the footballing side of things.

But in answer to your question, who knows. We obviously have more money than people thought but quite where that is coming from is anybody's guess.

We shouldn't be bringing anyone in whilst we have players furloughed, no doubt about that. Although there is nothing you or i could do to prevent it from happening so if.....and it's still an if at this point it happens then the best thing to do would be just to sit back and enjoy the shitstorm!

Would perhaps be the one amusing thing to come out of the season being voided, as pretty sure anyone signed this window couldn’t be furloughed.

So loans from councils, then furlough unwanted players.

Do you have a rota for mugging old ladies on the way to matches.:£

Adi Yussuf signing would be worth it just for the blood pressure levels on this board.

In terms of the finances, one thing I think we can be sure of is that the board won't be spending recklessly and stupidly. They're a sensible group of men with the wellbeing of the club at heart, not like the last shyster.

No idea. I do know that we are replacing overpaid L1/L2 style wage packets with non league wages - which long term will deliver operating savings - but how we are funding the incomings now - I couldn't possibly say.

How do professional footballers fall in to the top 4 at risk categories? And given you can’t pay for a vaccine, how have they managed it?
