Reading the report linked here, it now seems that a rescue package is unlikely to be agreed this week. But my understanding is that at a number of clubs, contracts apply when the players start the season. So if no reasonable funding is forthcoming, some clubs effectively bankrupt themselves. Or have I got this wrong. I really hope so.
Well Eastbourne Borough are already talking about pulling out of the National South if theres no bailout or crowds allowed anytime soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a fair few others considering it.

The EFL REFUSED to allow Everton and City to offer cash to Bury (bloody rightly as well considering where it would have ended up) on conflict of interest grounds.
Why is the premier league offering money to the EFL NOT a conflict of interest?

because it's not an individual team loaning money to an individual team

The government trying to pin this all on the PL is disgraceful IMO. We all know that there need to be wider conversations about distribution of wealth in football, but in this specific scenario, the government is effectively banning football clubs from trading. The epidemiology might be that it has to be done, but if that’s the case then it falls on the government to keep things afloat.

Amazing how this government has suddenly found a love of wealth redistribution from the rich to the poor. Only for football though of course.

Nah in typical National League fashion they will wait till Friday night before making that announcement.

Everything has to be last minute and a complete shambles with this lot.

Found this rather funny/sad, probably more the latter.

Chesterfield are looking at the possibility of streaming their home matches in hospitality areas at the Technique Stadium. If it's allowed, the curtains would have to be closed to prevent fans viewing the pitch. This is where we are now.

Agreed. Just doesn't feel like it'll really start does it.

You can't pick and choose which supporters can or can't attend games. Non elite v elite (home fans only) is prejudiced and illegal. If Non elite fans can attend away games, then so should elite fans be allowed.

Well it seems the government have decided to help out

''The Government will provide a coronavirus bailout to the National League, in a move that will allow it to begin on Saturday and stop North and South division clubs withdrawing from the FA Cup.

Telegraph Sport can reveal that ministers have pledged to provide a rescue package to teams in the National League that could stop several of them going to the wall.

That package will not arrive before Saturday’s National League kick-off and FA Cup second qualifying round but the Government has promised to underwrite losses made by clubs as a result of them being forced to play behind closed doors.''

Anyone else have an awful gut feeling that it's not gonna go ahead on Saturday like we all think?

Someone jinx it and create the weekend thread! LongEatonPie :animatedf:

Alas a change in job means I have very little time. I cant keep in touch with the goings on anymore and I will be restricted to just twitter updates of even Notts if the season does go ahead.

That's a cracking statement. Fuck the government.

So what happens to any Hamlet fans that may already have bought tickets. Do they return them or just turn up and be quiet.

No. Fucking. Way.... really?

My missus can literally go into a smallish, sweaty room with about 10 others and do a spin class at the gym but we can’t go into an open stadium with even a 10% capacity and watch a football match.

Absolutely mental.

What happens if cup games go to extra time and penalties midweek? Good chance they'd run beyond 10pm and everyone in the ground would catch it, or is it only those in the club bar that would be susceptible?

We're having to do the same thing for our home match vs. Chesterfield on Saturday. Thankfully our case has been picked up by the national press over the past 24 hours for the lunacy that the government's current policy is. The Harrow East MP Bob Blackman is going to be advocating letting fans in to the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport using our example in the House of Commons today.

Interestingly on the call list both the MPs for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner and Harrow West are also asking a question to the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Hopefully they cite us as an example too (and they should do with Stones supporters in both constituencies) to really hammer the point home and let fans in.

No specifically about the FA Cup but Boston United are playing at Gainsborough Trinity's ground until their new stadium is ready, and even though the same stadium protocols are in place regardless of who the home side is, Boston aren't allowed fans whereas Trinity are!

I thought i'd give Alvechurch a cheer on Saturday as I make way to their game against Kidderminster in the FA Cup.

I just hope those elites stay away for the greater good of public health.

So the three clubs with the highest attendances at step 3. I can only assume they have spent beyond their means on players in the hope that attendances will go back to normal, in which case they only have themselves to blame.

Fair play to the government, I thought they would find some way of telling non league to get stuffed.
Why it’s taken until the last minute is a bit of a mystery.
