Been a good game we’ve probably shaded it and had much of the pressure with two off the line but Crewe looked dangerous when they do get around our box.

This is probably crying out for Pope and defensively they look fairly frail and Bennett hasn’t done much.

Pope at half time would be a wise move IMO

I'd say the Vale have shaded it overall, even though we've had the clearer sights of goal. They have been just a touch sharper and quicker to things, as we should have expected. At least we are clearing the lines quicker and not getting caught out deep so often. Front 3 are anonymous, Ainley has so much potential but uses it 5% of the time, Kirk is drifting away from his position too much and Porter is doing his usual routine of looking like a donkey for 95% of the game and only a decent footballer for the remaining 5%.

Need to move it quicker, especially when we get space and beat the high press. Too many slack passes or wrong decisions in the penalty area.

Not sure how the stats don't have the Vale are having a shot on target, that one off the line definitely counts.

Kirk looks dangerous, not sure what Brown was thinking as we assumed that cross was drifting harmlessly wide by his reaction!

Good crowd so far.

Joyce has been decent for us IMO, some good football at times from both sides but not direct or quickly enough to really open up either defence.

If not Pope might be worth chucking Archer on, powerful pacey but a big aerial threat, everything has bounced off Bennett today.

Good first half.

I’d say we were slightly the better side but the problem we have got is that Bennett is dropping too deep, we are putting loads of good crosses in the box but there’s nobody there to get on the end of them.

Just saw that on ifollow and wondered how they don’t count an off the line clearance as a shot on target!

Another spineless pathetic showing. This team deserves all the plaudits for being where they are after 16 games, but that is unacceptable. Our closest rivals and the only game truly resembling a derby and they wilt, again. 1 shot on target, for the 3rd game in a row against these lot. Pathetic. Every single one of them, except maybe the keeper, needs to hang their heads in shame.

This fan base asks for so little, expects nothing. And yet the one game where they ask for a good display and they don't even come close. I'm raging right now, absolutely raging.

Fair play to Port Vale, they shaded the first half, even though there was only the goal line clearance to show in the way of chances. But they worked hard throughout, threw their bodies in the way when needed, were sharp in possession, quicker with their movement, better with their positioning. Should have wrapped it up with Pope and Amoo missing good chances late on. Worthy winners.

2 cup games now to get their heads straight and get ready for a difficult game at Northampton in 2 weeks. Shite.

Excellent win in the same category as Bradford. It sounded close, but Crewe didn't seem to threaten that much.

Said it before give us a footballing side we will beat them 9/10 it’s the teams the park the bus you can’t. Scenes though and how strange when the goal goes in a stoke fan runs on the pitch to taunt everyone whilst Crewe stewards do nothing!

Thought we were marginally the better side. Not so much the second half up but that’s another great result for us.

We are starting to look solid defensively with smith and Legge throwing themselves at everything and winning every header.

Wasn’t at the game so no real comment other than am really pleased that we seem to have got a bit of away form behind us now at last. Am sure Crewe will bounce back next time out and hopefully we can start putting back to back wins together which is the next task.

More pressingly, what the fuck is this about this Stoke fan going on the pitch to goad Vale fans after us scoring?? Nobody would ever credit those mouth-breathers with intelligence at the best of times but this is another level.

It was embarrassing. He ran on from the Gresty Road end, took his jacket off to reveal a Stoke City top. He than bounced along the length of the away end goading Port Vale fans. Lucky he didn't get his face filled in, stupid bellend.

I mean, is he really in a position to brag about being a Stoke fan right now? Their club look like they are heading for League One and are at their lowest ebb for a good 15 years. What a prize twat.

Have to say, Stoke fan was probably highlight of the day for me. Got a set of balls on him.

Absolutely knew we would wilt and Vale would be fired up. You laugh at me for suggesting you up your game but it’s a complete and utter fact.

1st half they had us camped in our half quite a bit but didn’t look like scoring at all. We were poor but 2 great chances fell to Porter and Lowery and they should be putting them away or at least passing to the open men in the box.

2nd half, thought we looked like we were going to grind them down, had a lot of the ball but then it goes up the other end, corner and scrappy goal. We didn’t deal with corners at all. Vale were never going to let us back in after that. Last few weeks we have been poor. Hunt is a squad player, he is not a starting centre back. And the decision to play Ainley was a joke and massively backfired.

Credit to Vale, deserved it. Fans who ran on the pitch were just allowed to jump back in the stand with a load of police and stewards just watching them go back to their seats, pissed me off that.

This becoming abit of a habit. We didn't look ourselves today. But credit where it's due Vale were decent and executed there game plan fantastically. The two centre halves and the keeper were very good. I'm not sure how Pope doesn't start Infront of Bennett who looked embarrassingly bad. Once Pope came on Vale really looked a threat going forward. Amoo also looked poor but I could see on his day with his pace I'm sure he could be an asset.

As for us I'm just not sure what was wrong, partly I think Vale stopped us from playing, but I just didn't think we looked quite as up for it as the Vale team did. Not sure what Artell is doing before/during these games but whatever it is, it's not working.

All in all very disappointed but congrats to Vale, the best team won. But this one game doesn't define our season, they were always going to raise there game Vs us, especially with us being top. It's how we bounce back from defeats like this that will matter.

Not sure why the Vale fan is digging out Nolan. He was probably our best player today. Very composed on the ball. Made Bennett look stupid on more than one occasion.

Not great but some over reaction from our fans. These games are slightly out of the ordinary, the frustrating thing is how we constantly fall flat in big games at home. Oh well.

Great mental for the goal, some top clips knocking about twitter. Chris Eubank must admit I was too busy goading the gresty end and counting the pitch invaders to notice the players, did they jump into the fans like last year?

No wind up, I think the police were very relieved Pope rolled that effort along the crossbar and it was millimetres from nestling in. That second goal would have made it go off big time. I was expecting it to again at full time when Vale were singing ‘top of the league’ etc but the gresty children had no appetite for it and meekly filtered out.

Well worth the four hours of sleep.

Crewe (On here, the ones on twitter are braindead) have been gracious in defeat so Chris Eubank will say something nice. That Aneme looks like he could be quite effective at L2 level in a brute force Ikpeazu kind of way.
Correct. IMO Anene should be ahead of Porter.

Crewe fans need to calm down. Close game. Not much in it. Vale shaded it. So what? Quite enjoyed the game, we move on. Well done Vale.

Wouldn’t say we upped our game, we just did exactly what we’d done at Bradford, when we are good we can beat anyone but are slowly getting there consistently.

Got to be honest, Vale pressed and pressed, let us have the ball where it didn’t really matter, no use having two thirds of possession on the edge of the box. Disappointed that once again we don’t play a normal game but that’s about right. Well done to PV, probably shaded it. Not bitter but what the hell has that clown of a stoke fan got to shout about.....

Few points from today;

What's with the Nolan bashing? Thought he had a more than decent game and made Bennett look a prick on 2 or 3 occasions.

What's this utter fantasy about us 'upping our game' when we play Crewe? Nonsense. You simply bottle it every single meeting. Your players can't rise to the occasion. That simple. No upping of games, no change in personnel or tactics. Your game management is just awful every time we play. You literally play into our hands all the time.

Not going to be one of these idiots who think this result means we're gonna storm up the league and Crewe are shit and aren't as good as they think they are etc.. Silly, alcohol-fuelled nonsense. They're up the top for a reason. They're really good away from home lately. Clearly they just simply need to find a way to play against us and I can't see it coming anytime soon.

We usually play better and get better results against the sides higher in the league though so no surprise. It's against the shitty, time-wasting, defensive sides scrapping and coming for a point we tend to struggle to break down.

Two cup games to distract us now. A free hit at a piss poor MK Dons in the FA Cup and then field a reserve side who should see off Newcastle's kids in the Trophy.

Got to be beating Carlisle though and making these impressive away results matter. Hopefully we put a run together as this league is there for the taking.

He isn’t gash at all, was one of the better players on the pitch along with your centre half’s. Wouldn’t really comment on football with your beer goggles on.
Really ?
What did he do ?
Bit like your dwarf who was subbed after an anonymous display.
Crewe were fucking shit

Would prefer to forget about our 36 year old 1st choice former right back centre half that has no pace, can barely train and is only at the club as a last resort yet is now inexplicably undroppable because our major CH summer signing isn't particularly good.

Pretty much my thoughts. Tight game, one goal would always settle it. Crewe knocked it about nicely at times but never really tested Brown and tended to have possession for possessions sake rather than penetrating . We harried and pressed and defended really well when needed. Probably could have scored more.

You can see why Crewe have opened teams up but we just didn't allow it and they struggled as they normally do with the physical side of the game. They looked like kids being bullied a bit, especially when Pope came on.

Artell was reasonably gracious in defeat, so fair play. Decent atmosphere and a pretty decent game that I would have been happy to have gained a point from. Delighted with 3 and we move on to the next.
