Grayson didn't want it. Whether it's similar to the Kenny Jackett fiasco of last season where Winkelman was strict in keeping his son as head of recruitment I'm not sure. But this is a typical MK deal. Similar to when we brought Karl Robinson in we've a young manager that knows the club, has a wealth of experience at youth levels in multiple places (Premier League, MK Dons, England) and an experienced Assistant Manager in Keith Millen. Dean Lewington is also back at the club which we're all happy about.Simon Grayson seemed like the best option, surely? Winkelman tightening the purse strings?
Have a feeling that, despite Wellens having only recently got the gig, when this takeover is completed we may go after someone like Grayson...
Nice dig haha.Is that after you make the P/O? It would have to be a lot of money for him to consider a club in this league.
Struggling to feel any sympathy, if he’d a started a club from non league like others then yeah. But you know what they say about karma.Feel a bit sorry for Winkleman.
He saw MKD as a fantastic business opportunity to start a new league club in a part of the country with a large wealthy population but no league club. He’s built a fantastic stadium and ran loads of cheap ticket promotions to encourage the locals to support their team.
It’s the classics franchise approach that works so well in the US. It makes full logical sense to take football out to the people.
The problem is football is about tradition and the MK population are probably more bothered about Man U, Liverpool, Spurs etc than the MK Dons.
Some have been saying give it time but it looks like the MKD franchise experiment isn’t ever going to work.
Makes you wonder where it’s all heading. If MKD get relegated to league 2 it makes you wonder about their future.

Seriously fuck off. Hope they crash and burn and he gets bankrupted
I lived in the area for two years and my ex boss moved there in 1997 from up here. Can understand the sentiment with MKD.
I have friends that moved from Sheffield to MK 15 years ago.
Get the impression it’s taking longer than Winkleman expected to develope a decent supporter base.
Agree with Sabin too, it’s what makes the football outside the US special.
The US model is logical to grow a sport but there’s more to sport than supporting the best and chasing glamour.
It’s about loyalty, tradition and supporting your community.
I've more culture in my fridge

Yes I probably am traditional, I can't do with US sport tbh. A sporting club is a big part of any local community, Winkleman helped destroy that so I can't imagine he will ever get much sympathy.Know what you mean but that’s just a romantic English traditional view. In the US they’d not understand what you’re talking about.
They tend to take franchises off clubs with falling attendances and little to offer and only agree to clubs with something to offer commercially. They believe in survival of the fittest, clubs with little support and little commercial strength fall by the wayside.
Not saying it’s right, it’s just an alternative view. I was around in the 80’s and once the romantic novelty of WFC’s amazing rags to riches success wore off I used to hate playing Wimbledon. Their used to bring about 100 fans to Bramall Lane, always a poor atmosphere and usually our lowest crowd of the season. Also we used to always lose at Plough Lane, which was basically a non league standard ground.
If you care about the world wide reputation and future of English football then would you want the biggest clubs with the biggest support and best stadiums in the higher divisions or have the likes of Bournemouth, Burnley, Swansea, Huddersfield, Watford etc in the top flight.

Wigan didnt do too badThat’s actually quite funny because it’s probably accurate
Before any Wombles fan accuses me of jealousy I admit that at first I admired Wimbledons amazing rise. Don’t think we’ll see a non league club rise to finish 6th in the PL ever.
But eventually I admit to thinking “how come they’ve achieved more in 5 years than what my club has achieved in the last 50 years”.
I used to watch the Wombles in the 70’s and only ever associated Wimbledon with tennis and to piss me off even more apparently their secret was hard work and a special team spirit. Madness ha ha.
And thinks fans are racist for singing come on you whites!!!! Mans a prat and deserves nothing but contemptFeel sorry for Winkleman?
State of you, feeling sorry for a guy who ripped a club away from its community in order to make money.
My biggest football regret is that I didn't get involved in the 2002 protests. I was all loved up with a toddler at the time.
Without getting into a rehash about the whys and wherefores about the existance of MK Dons, why do you think the 'experiment' isn't going to work? We are having our worst season for years still have the 7th highest average attendance in league 1. Yes, there are a huge number of premier supporters in MK because a lot of our population has relocated from London and that isn't going to change anytime soon. As for the stadium, of course it is too big for the football team but it makes it's money from other events it hosts. I'll have you know we have the largest convention of Jehovahs Witnesses outside the US at Winkelman's bowl
