You played good football under Clough?

Either Clements football was so bad it made Cloughs seem good or he got us playing completely different to how he did you

Not that I recall.

Really disappointing decision. He's not been given a decent chance.

Even more disappointing is we've appointed Darren Wassall until the end of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if we get someone else in though sooner rather than later.

And, it won't be Billy Davies no matter what people might be saying on Twitter.

Nothing in the way of reaction from Derby players on Twitter tonight. Usually you get something, even if the club eventually orders them to take it down.

Maybe he did lose the dressing room.

Surely wassall won't be long term.

I thought Rowett would be a great choice but can't see that happening right now.

Pearson would be a solid appointment but seemingly an unpopular. I can't help but feel Moyes and Rodgers are pipe dreams.

Rowatt is the stand out choice, but I can't help an experienced manager is the answer moving forwards.

Wassall will be manager until we find the 'right one' and I imagine the 'right one' may take some convincing.

I've spoken to Pearson several times, he will never manage either Sheffield club, he likes the City too much.

Hes a reyt boring twat sits in rising sun every teatime on his own supping real ale reading paper. I have to go in there unfortunately when i go for a beer with my grandad as thats his local.

No offence to the Derby fans but after what your chairman has done I hope it all goes down hill now!

What an utter cock he is.

This was missed earlier, but before Clement was sacked Derby appointed Craig Short and Des Walker to the coaching staff.

On a pure football basis this stengely feels like the right choice. I've seen us play convincingly well twice A wolves at home and hull away. Both times though we were not completely controlled which speaks volumes over a whole season.

Mel though brought in clement as a gamble. If something has gone off behind the scenes then fair enough, but surely you have to give the manager longer.

The biggest concern to me is our transfer policy and what we are going to be doing now. We have a bloated and unbalanced squad, replaced a talented rookie head coach with an u21 coach until the end of the season. Oh and it's renewal time for season tickets. Hopefully that'll get extended if no manager is here.

This season though this last month or so has been so strange. You can tell from this board that there was apathy from our performances because as soon as we started losing, it was almost as if it was expected. So strange. It's why all fans became nervous when the next game came along.

Oh and what's that - 11 clubs changing manager now? Let's be honest, football has become a joke now in this league.

Brilliant, we'll hopefully see the sheep next season , they deserve all they get with decisions like that.
They've recently spent 25 million on their already massive squad, our whole team has cost about 30 grand

Absolutely the right decision imo. The standard of football has gone back to the Clough days. Boring and unacceptable. Wassall will be short term, he has to be!

Clement was completely out of his depth and it showed that with his team lottery, game after game. He stated after the lifeless goalless draw with Preston (where we had a grand total of zero shots on target) that he would not be changing his possession keeping ethos. He was trying to implement a style of play that simply doesn't work in the championship and in reality, in any league in this country.

I have faith that Mel Morris will have learnt a huge lesson with the failure of this appointment and trust him to appoint an ideal successor.

A knee-jerk decision of the worst kind. All teams are going to have poor runs of form, there's plenty of time left for it to be turned round and Clement is presumably learning and improving as a manager as the season goes on.

Disagree with that bit Chello, if you've got the right club, players and everyone singing off the same hym sheet then I see no reason why it wouldn't. He pulled it off for 6 months with a squad that wasn't set up for it. Bottom line is he just wasn't a very good fit from the start so who ever employed him has to take the hit for that. Paul Clement is a strong enough individual to stick to his guns and to how he wanted to play football so fair play to him. No point in having your own philosophy if you're just going to turn into a yes man. No reason why he won't go on and do well with his career so all the best to him. Seriously undermined here which is why I'm disappointed.

He was out of his depth in August but until someone gives him a fair crack at management he's never going to get out of depth, we've just pissed him around for 8 months.

I'd disagree with that. Bournemouth went up doing just that last season, we finished 5th straight out of League 1. Derby have had many periods over the past couple of years playing some great football. I know there aren't too many teams doing that and doing well, but I'd argue that's because there aren't many teams trying to play that way in the first place, not that it can't work well.

I'd argue it's actually harder to go up just being attritional in this league, which seems to be the typical style. If most teams play that way then typically it's just going to boil down to which teams have the best individuals.

Mel Morris in an interview this afternoon...

"If I'd been picking the team we probably wouldn't have played some of those players. I don't regret going in the dressing room."

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
Let's face it, with the quality of individual players Derby have there, in defence and attack, they should be able to play whatever style they wish and should be fairly successful at it.

I'd guess that in a slower more possession focused style, when a gap opens up the attacking players need to be well versed and well drilled in each others moves to suddenly shift through the gears and exploit the opening effectively. In a more frantic back to front style I guess there is more scope for mashing random players together and having things come off, because openings just happen. Derby have players and options coming out their ears, is it a case of not settling on one team long enough for a slower style to work?

"It has never been about promotion."

When our position in the table is mentioned... "The priority is not promotion."

Are we just spending £25m for the fun of it then?

I remember when Morris first came in and he said he hated being in the limelight, and preferred to just sit in the shadows unnoticed. That's going well.

Few more managers to get through first before we even come close to a few in this div.

The signs are there though.

We told you when Morris went into the dressing room that there was trouble brewing.

Some of the shit on twitter after that happened. ''You don't make the money Mel has without being ruthless.'' This is football, the second you interfere with the manager that you have appointed, you're in trouble. It also stinks of desperation. I think MM has probably realised that with the amount of money spent, you probably do need promotion this season, contrary to what he said. There is no reason to sack a manager in 5th place otherwise. It's just not that bad yet. If you went 2/3 more without a win then yes you could maybe look at it, but it was clearly a panic move wasn't it?

Derby's spending is also unprecedented. We got fucked by FFP for spending about £10m and some extortionate wages. And that was bad then. This could be a disaster for them.

*Cue James showing me a breakdown of up front fees versus deferred payments*
