Seems a bit of a gamble given his lack of knowledge of the lower leagues given your position. He doesn't know the Notts players, the opposition players, is he used to playing on rubbish pitches? Has he got the street wise for a relegation battle? What if he comes in thinking he can play a continental style of play and then realise you have shit players and rubbish pitches so can't do it?

Maybe Notts would have been better getting a manager who knows the division on the short term and then have this Moniz fella taking over in the summer?

That sounds really boring.

Poland and Hunagry are known for their wonderful playing surfaces...

I'm pretty sure he knows what a relegation battle is too, we've not just hired some random Dutch bloke who doesn't understand how football works.

I know what a relegation battle is as well, doesn't mean I should be appointed manager.

What experience does he have of a relegation battle in L1?
What experience does he have of a relegation battle in England?
What experience does he have of a relegation battle in any division of world football?

I'm not exactly clued up on football in Hungary and Poland but I'd guess the majority of stadiums are more modern than some of the holes in this league and therefore have better facilities and pitches, as a matter of interest I looked up stadiums in Poland and there have been a lot of modern stadiums opened withing the last 10 including the home ground of Lechia Gdansk which opened in 2011. At Salzburg he played at the Red Bull Arena which was built in 2003 and had a new pitch laid in 2010, before that they played on artificial. Just because they aren't top footballing nations doesn't mean they play on park fields with jumpers for goalposts, they've hosted international tournaments, UEFA games, international fixtures etc.

How many pitches in the top flights of Poland/Austria/Hungary would you find in the state of the pitches at Bradford/Blackpool/Ricoh (+many others)?

Sorry for shitting on your parade but these are valid questions.

I honestly couldn't care less. He's worked in like 8 different countries, his ability to adapt to the obviously really unique concepts of League 1 football and English relegation battles (which are different to relegation battles elsewhere...apparently) aren't really at the top of my list of questions.

In fact, I have no questions. He's a foreign coach that seems a bit cavalier and likes playing attacking football. I have no expectations of him being good, he probably won't be if you took into account the restrictions he has managing a club our size and that...but I don't care, he seems fun. If we go down, we go down - I didn't care before, I don't care now.

Good luck to you. Brave appointment, but if it comes off will definitely be seen as a stroke of genius by the board

We're in the shit already so whoever we appointed was only going to be a troubleshooter or build for next year appointment. Are they valid questions this late when you've sacked a manager? Probably not, it doesn't really matter any more, we're already fucked

I think the Trews are gamblers who like a roll of the dice. If you're going to roll the dice why not go for a unknown rather than people who've repeatedly failed elsewhere?

Moniz seems like the kind of guy who is just as likely to come in and get a short term impact as anyone else. He's definitely not placid.

I don't think you could have squeezed any more footballing clichés in there even if you tried.

I preferred the guy on Notts Mad who just assumed that he couldn't speak English because he came from a mythical foreign land such as Rotterdam.

The investment rumours are like an Echo...

Echo...

Echo...

Fans are just recycling them and holding onto the hope it will happen. It gets funnier each time.

Refreshing to see Notts casting the managerial net a little wider...

Oh the move has broken down whilst I was mid-sentence into a comment praising Notts.

Hart and Halsall for the "foreseeable future" official word.
I wonder if they are still hoping for Moniz, bearing in mind that his issue may have been short term and Hart originall said he didn't want to do more than one game.
It could be that Hart has said I will carry on until he is ready, which I think RT wants.

Hes Gonna have Dave Kevan and ooo Tommy Johnson alas backroad staff who know the club and the division well

Dave Kevan has done a good job here by all accounts, but he's buggered off In the middle of our promotion challenge which is hardly good timing on his part. It's not like he's left for a secure job either, he could be out the door(again) if your new manager wants his own people.

Sorry, I'm not even sure we know how we managed to get drunk enough to try and appoint a manager but just end up poaching Forest Green's assistant for no real reason.

Now official Moniz new manager of Notts....

Chairman Ray Trew said of the appointment of the new managerial team: “As I have said previously, I set out on our search for a new Manager with an open mind but with a determination to find someone who would be able to bring a new level of excitement to Notts County.

“I think in Ricardo we have found that because, having spoken to him at length, his footballing philosophy is one of structured attacking play, which I hope is something that our fans will buy into, because I know that when I come to Meadow Lane I want to be entertained, I want to be excited by what I see out there on the pitch.

“Results, of course, are the yardstick by which Managers are ultimately judged, but if we can play the sort of football that gets people off their seats and instil in our players the desire to take games to our opponents, I think we can make a real impression in this division.

“Ricardo has a fantastic reputation within the game, not only for the style of football that he plays, but also his ability to spot and nurture young talent, so I am confident that his appointment will be of benefit to all levels of the club.

3 years? Weren't we laughing at Coventry for giving Pressley a 4 year deal?

Seems a stupidly long deal for a club with a terrible reputation for sticking by their managers. Strikes me as Moniz holding Notts C to ransom a little bit and getting a great deal for himself with a nice little severance package should they ever choose to sack him. Smart guy.

Trew has given basically all of our managers (apart from Derry) a three year contract. He likes his clauses.

Yeah, the length means nothing, he insists on having clauses in so that he can sack them at any point. Otherwise we'd be bankrupt at this point, the amount of managers we've sacked with 2 years left on their contracts.

Anyway, woo, something interesting about Notts. It'll probably go badly - who fucking cares.
