Why is Darren Ferguson such a bad choice to take over?
I read a eulogy of his time at Peterborough which stated Peterborough's woes were down to the chairman selling first team players out from under him. Some of them going to Championship and Premier League sides.
It's obvious he can spot talent and has connections through his illustrious father to the best of that talent.
Why can't he succeed at County?
Steady on.
We did sell players, but for silly money (Gayle 6m, Assombalonga 5.5m), don't pretend he never got that money back to reinvest because he did.
Transfer fee wise, we have the most expensively assembled squad in League One minus possibly Sheffield United and he had us in 15th.
Look, you give Ferguson a squad of young players with real potential, he'll develop them really well and play exciting football. Give him anything else, and you're fucked. He has no plan B either.
Ferguson didn't find a lot of our 'talents' - He wasn't responsible for CMS, McLean, Boyd, Tomlin, or Gayle. He was behind Assombalonga and Bennett, and fair play for those,
To be fair to him though, he also pushed massively to develop the club off the field and he's a big part of our successful youth system and new training ground too so we thank him for that, and he did win three promotions with us and will always be considered one of our finest ever managers for that.
He'd keep Notts County up, but I'm not entirely sure they would have the budget he desires to take them any further than that.
