As for Derry, I've found some of his dealings in the transfer windows to be truly bizarre.

Shaun Harrad, Billy Daniels, Jones, Thompson. At least have some respect Notts County.

What happened to Cassidy and Petrasso, two decentish players at this level why weren't they kept on? Whats happend Ronan Murray? Thought he looked a useful player last season and done nothing this year.

Petrasso wasn't even played when he was here. Probably not boring enough

To be fair Garry thompson has done a decent job and Daniels scored a screamer in the ten minutes we were allowed to be aware of his existence. Jones and Harrad are shit though, along with plenty of others.

Cassidy wasn't very good really, sitting on the bench at Southend now. Petrasso went back because he disappeared off on an Under 20 tournament for a month with Canada in January. The big losses were Laing and Ismail from the loanees holding us together before Christmas. The first was sent to Motherwell instead and the latter also ruled out for the season whilst here.

Murray has been out injured since the start of the year, just got ruled out for the rest of the season with a fractured pubic bone. Which sounds unpleasant. His total lack of goals this season was a reuslt of Spencer's injury though, they basically came as a pair. If we do go down those two will dick on League Two, which is something I guess.

I remember him having a stormer away at Barnsley, its bizarre. Did Derry not want him then?

Derry's biggest flaw, among plenty, is that he loses faith in a player after two below par games in a row. Petrasso was a player who only turned up one in three, but was unplayable on that day. It's why we've seen so many players disappear after a handful of games whilst the dependably below average shite like Jones, Edwards, Smith, Thompson etc. keep getting a game.

Ismail wasn't used enough either. Too exciting I suppose.

It didn't matter though because the lads playing were the 'right' kind of players.

Not saying Cassidy is good by any means but surely he'd be better than Harrad or that Bajner fella you have? Just seems a bit strange, as an outsider I've raised my eyebrows more than once when I've seen a Notts County signing this season.

Ismail was beginning to find his feet just before he got injured which was a shame.

Cassidy was alright but he's not a player I'd say would have us any higher than we are purely because Garry Thompson outperformed him as a lone striker when Cassidy got injured and Bajner hasn't been any worse either. He's also not getting a game at Southend now so...at least he gained a girlfriend in his time at Notts, one of the Notts Ladies lasses.

FWIW, I don't buy the whole 'second batch of loanees argument' - he wasn't replacing stars. Ismail went back injured early, McLaughlin was wank and Petrasso wasn't even starting half the time. Even the glorious Louis Laing wasn't actually anything that special, more a champion of nostalgia because people connect dots by looking at results but he was no real upgrade on Mullins and then when Mullins came back initially, there was no noticeable drop-off (not that I wouldn't love/have loved to have Laing back of course)

You mention Daniels as a bad signing but he's actually fucking Pele if you were to be an alien and watch his time as a Notts player. He made a cameo on debut, scored a world class goal, nearly scored a 30 yard screamer. He then started the next match, clearly wasn't match fit and got subbed off and that's basically his Notts career to date. He produced more in 20 minutes than most of our squad produced in months and he's seemingly just vanished again. So I wouldn't call his transfer bizarre at all, it looked relatively shrewd...he's just not played him, simple as.

So if it isn't the players he has signed/let go where do you think it has gone wrong then from a decent start?

Doubt it - not really the sort of manager you need when you are in a relegation battle

What is James Beattie up to these days?

I always thought he had the makings of a good manager while at Accy.

Beattie is still looking for a managerial position I believe.
He applied for our job before we gave it to Edinburgh.
I reckon he could be a good choice.
Depends on whether the County board would want to take a risk at the moment on a young, inexperienced manager who has not long finished playing.
They have, after all, just been down that route.

Beattie would be shite. No idea why people bring up his job at Accy, he was a bit meh and no more and was a bit of a prick as well.

I always think a good barometer of a manager is how did he perform with respect to his predecessor/successor at his clubs, obviously circumstances can change but I feel its a good indicator. At Accrington Beattie had a similar record (% wise) to Leam Richardson who was a caretaker/assistant who stepped up and John Coleman has gone in after Beattie and doing a very good job again having a superior record to Beattie. Beattie didn't do badly but enough for a L1 to take a punt on him? Not for me, he has to go to another L2 club and prove something before making the step up.

Why is Darren Ferguson such a bad choice to take over?

I read a eulogy of his time at Peterborough which stated Peterborough's woes were down to the chairman selling first team players out from under him. Some of them going to Championship and Premier League sides.
It's obvious he can spot talent and has connections through his illustrious father to the best of that talent.

Why can't he succeed at County?

He needs a lot of money to succeed. He came to us and realised he couldn't just buy whoever he wanted and turned to Daddy for help with loans. He's a fucking awful manager who should never get another job in football. Wife-beating c***.

Relegate us now.
Apparently its only to keep the day to day training going, they wanted to appoint someone before Thursday's deadline.
I imagine they will not probably not start until after Saturday.

Sold and then allowed to spend 6 and 7 figure sums to replace them. Poor lamb.

He's dead bottom of my list, the man is a complete and utter fraud. I genuinely can't think of anyone I'd want less - Lee Clark maybe.

Temporary is indeterminate though. We lose Saturday we are in big trouble. If we have no one by good Friday and lose we are gone. Do you keep Hart or appoint someone for the impossible job and hope they do ok the next year?

There will be someone in place for Good Friday, I'm 100% sure of it. Whether they'll be any good, I have no idea.

They have sacked Derry at the worst time though. Should have been after Rochdale - Hart/Halsall could've had the expectation-less task of MK away and the new bloke would be in for Saturday. Otherwise this Saturday should've been Derry's moment - I think the fear was we'd play shit, maybe scrape 1-0 against an equally terrible Scunthorpe side and then we'd be like 'what now?'. Considering we've been so bad for so long, it's bizarre that they haven't had something in place for when Derry finally got the chop.
