At this stage of the season, every team deserves to be where they are. Simple as that. I’ve seen Cambridge twice this season and they’ve been poor. But they’re top of the league so they must be doing something right! In the same instance we’re third so same goes for us (and that’s with a dodgy 10 first games). We’ve been staggering of late but we’re still in the mix. If someone had said before the Cheltenham game that you’d face the top 2 and still end up in the auto places (aware Morecambe have a game in hand) I’d have ripped your hand off! We also now have quite a good run in.

On the penalty, I just don’t see how you give it. It should be obvious that if the ball goes that far in that direction then a defending team has got to the ball first. There’s no way any attacker gets their foot on the ball and it ends up where it did especially when you’re that far in the penalty area. But the ref was hopeless. That “foul” where Lewis won the ball is never a yellow in a million years and the ref was right by it! I’m usually pretty reasonable on assessments of matches but the the ref has won Cambridge a point today because bar the pen and that chance in the first half, they never even looked like threatening.

It makes for an entertaining end to the season. Cambridge and Cheltenham are up so there’s one place left to play for. If we can put our last few games aside and play the way we know we can then it’s ours. But if we stutter in a couple of games then the chasing pack will take advantage. Let’s put it this way, would rather be in our position than Grimsby’s!

Hannant got absolutely cleaned out by Paul Lewis. Watch it again if you need to - that is a penalty, clear as day.

Cambridge have had almost half as many penalties this season as Southend have goals. Cambridge will 11 penalties, Southend with 23 goals.

As I said, feel free to watch it back. Hannant makes a run and is brought down by Lewis very clumsily (classic of him), clear penalty.

So how does the ball end up where it does? An attacker doesn’t kick it that far back but a team defending 100% does. And you can tell from the reactions from both sets of players. If your team gives away a dead cert pen then although you might have one or two that contest it, the majority know it’s a pen. Today at least 6 Tranmere players went to the ref instantly. Likewise every Cambridge player bar the lad that was down disappeared. Think its one of those where you need to acknowledge you got away with one and the ref has done you a big favour.

I had to watch it a few times to figure out which player had made which challenge - the player on the floor had actually come from the far side of the box and I assume he’s the one penalised. I’m not sure either way but it’s messy as hell and there’s enough limbs in there to leave a decision to be made. I agree with svh that it looks like he’s guessed it. That’s not to say it wasn’t a foul, just it’s hard to tell and therefore we got lucky as refs normally err on the side of the defender in those.

We didn’t play well today but we got the luck we needed and dug out the draw which is a trait I can rarely remember us having in the past. There’s a hell of a lot of grit in this team, they’re making their own luck at times.

Even in the worst case scenario of Morecambe winning both their games in hand and Tranmere or Bolton winning theirs it leaves us four points clear of fourth place with six to play. Still work to do but I’d much rather be in our position than anyone else’s (including probably Cheltenham).

I think that’s a fair assessment aside from firmly believing it shouldn’t have been a penalty.

Anyway I do hope you go up. You’ve got some brilliant players and you’re a decent side. Us Tranmere fans haven’t seen the best of you in the games we’ve played but you can tell even when you’re not at your best that you’ve got some good players. Hopefully today’s fixture is replicated next season in League One.

We also need to add that Hannant is one of the most “fouled” player in the league. He’s a very very clever player when it comes to winning free kicks.

It’s one of those where you’re livid if it’s given against you. I know I would have been.

We’ve been poor against Tranmere this season but managed to get 2 points from those games. This team is full of spirit, grit and determination and that will be enough to get us over the line.

As it stands I sit back and look at the late winners and games we’ve dug out results when not at our best and that is what’s required to get the job done.

Our referee had a great game to be fair, she was chalk and cheese to the likes of Kettle and despite the huge media pressure she was in terms of the game barely noticeable, didn’t fall for the Harrogate tactics first half to go down in the box at every opportunity, let the game flow and couldn’t argue with the bookings for either side.

If that’s the future I’m all for it, if your good enough it doesn’t matter if your male or female. Let’s be honest we just want a good referee who’s fair and gets most decisions right, could be an alien for all I care as long as good enough.

Players seemed to respect her as well and not treat her any different.

Excellent to see, shame it’s taken until 2021.

I’m hoping clough will be able to show next season why he’s up there as one of the best in the division.

Barring 4 or so in midfield we’re a conference north standard team (cheers cloughlan)

Despite our recent form to drag that hapless bunch of cloggers 8 or so clear of danger is a great achievement. One of, if not the worst league side we’ve ever produced

with Akinola on penalties it wouldn't matter if Southend got 50 pens this season.

Do Tranmere have a team of midgets or do Cambridge have a team of giants?

Let's hope fans are as welcoming when grounds reopen.

She’ll be used to the banter by now I’m sure. Remember Amy Fearn refereeing in the Conference, don’t think fans were too bad with her? And she wasn’t the best tbh.

You are right, Hannant is a cheat. Never a pen, the sort you only get when at the top.

Given how many shit male refs there are, i’d openly welcome as many competent female refs as possible into the game.

As long as you’re fair, competent and apply the rules correctly i really couldn’t give a damn who you are.

Don’t really care if they’re even human tbh, would be quite happy to see a competent, fair Gorilla take the whistle. You’d get less back chat from players.

One of the things you notice the most without crowds is how much the players whinge at the refs, appeal for everything even if it’s blatantly not their ball, scream at virtually every tackle etc. Must be annoying as fuck refereeing that. Much worse then most parks football I’ve played in.

There'll be a few. There's a guy on 'the other forum' complaining that he's falling out of love with football because of things like this.

Why do these folks constantly threaten that they don't like football any more because female refs are allowed and racist 'banter' isn't, but never actually follow through on their threats?

i didn't want to make an overly big deal about it before the game in case she had a shitter but i have to say she really was excellent. you either didn't notice her or when you did she was in full control and you knew where you stood.

obviously a couple of decisions we thought we should get and i knw their manager said the same, but you'll get that in every single game.

i hate refs generally, on average they're sub par, especially the clowns we are used to in league 2, so if we can get a few more woman rising up the ranks and competing with the men on merit then it can only improve the standard for everyone.

that being said, i do think the players were a bit more well behaved than they would have been otherwise - which speaks volumes about their behaviour towards referees in general. hoepfully that was because of the spotlight of being the first league female ref because i think they should be respectful to refs for the right reasons, not because they are scared of negative press because the ref is female.

It will be interesting what Harrogate fans say about her. When you win fans generally say ref was good.

I've only just realised how many ex-Imps were playing in the Grimsby/Cheltenham game - Habergham, Green Waterfall and LJL for the former and Chapman and Long for the latter.

Because in the main they tend to be loud mouth bellends who are all talk.

Racist banter often tends to be racism thinly disguised as banter, so clearly it shouldn't be acceptable .

Thats the second time this season we have been robbed of 2 extra points by awful decisions against Cambridge. We scored a perfectly good goal there which was chalked off by a shocking offside decision. Having now watched Cambridge twice I can only assume they get loads of similiar calls their way because other than that I can`t for the life of me see now they are top of the league. I`ve seen plenty of teams better than them this season. BTW I would like to congratulate them on taking second place in this seasons " screaming when tackled" trophy behind Newport
