Nice move by Hughes to set that up, more of that next season and Super_horns will be pleased!

Not sure if it's mental or physical tiredness but we've been absolutely battered the past 25 minutes. Was a pretty good game up until then with both teams having good spells. But yeah, looking ominous this now.

Need to compose ourselves for extra time, cos we really were clinging on at the end there dropping so deep. Maybe we're hoping to find Redmond long on the break, but it's a big ask to defend constantly like that.

Only watched it since the 85th minute or so but Germany absolutely dominating this game at the moment.

England don't seem to want the ball, or know how to use it.

Negative tactics. We've dropped far too deep far too easily at the first sign of them stringing a couple of passes together. It happened midway through the first half and then immediately after we took the lead. Now we're knackered after having to chase the ball for so long. Frustrating because when we have got forward in numbers we've caused them problems. Can still win this but if we do we've been lucky. Boothroyd's negativity is holding this side back. Camping in the penalty area and lumping it over Abraham's head is never going to work - that's not his game.

Been like that since Germany equalised, we've not recovered, look knackered. When we got forward we looked good, but that seems a long time ago now!

Cowardice seeps down from the manager. He's scared for them to try and win on footballing terms so tells them to just sit tight and get it forward as quickly as they can on the counter, so you just end up with aimless balls to Abraham. The Germans are having a great day out. They can do whatever they like and we'll just kick it up the pitch if they lose it.

The blueprint for England matches in the next 10 years?

This is German second string with the best U21s away at the Confederations Cup.

Happily, Boothroyd doesn't manage the senior side.

Unhappily, Southgate does

Ah well, champions of the world at u20 level and European semi-finalists at u21 level.

Not bad at all.

Similar to the 2012 Euros - would have been a bit of a tragedy had England snuck through on penalties.

Still, according to the pundits Pickford is the best keeper at the tournament. Take that Donnarumma

Says a lot about the other lads that someone as awful at shooting as Nathan Redmond is taking the 5th penalty.

Better second half of extra time. But let's be honest, we all knew we'd lose on pens

U21s going out in the semi is the poorest return from our youth sides this summer. Plenty of positives to take.

"I feel sorry for Nathan Redmond. It was a comfortable save. What a way to lose the game. What a heroic effort from all these England players. They matched Germany - the application and spirit has been magnificent throughout this competition."

Oh Terry....

Really? What match did he watch? ;)

Proud of Julian Pollersbeck. He said just in an after match interview that this was his first penalty shootout since playing at kids level. Before the match German Coach Stefan Kuntz (one of our heroes of the Euro 1996) said, after hearing that the England squad trained penalties after every training session "You can't train penalty shootouts before a match. We didn't do this kind of stuff...."

tbh: We should have won the match way before even the extra time. I am fearing now another match against the Italians...Go Spain (not that they'll be easier to play in the final but...you know it ;) )

Made progress again with another youth team, the future is looking far brighter than it was 12 months ago. Would have been nice to see us progress to the final and perhaps come up against the Spanish, what a test that would have been. Expect a fair few of these lads to be getting full time call ups next season, mainly Pickford, Abraham, Ward-Prowse.

There is no Abraham is getting anywhere near the England squad yet. He's got miles to go. Ward Prowse being close is courtesy of there being very few quality CMs
