This is the real conundrum. The squad taken and the formation we see are totally at odds with each other.
I'm sure there's logic to it in Roy's mind somewhere, but on the face of it you think he's just making it up as he goes along.

How are you going to counter attack a team playing 5 at the back? Playing a diamond doesn't mean you have to play counter attacking football, but it does you mean you have a goal threat from the 2 strikers and the number 10, as opposed to the 2 shitters playing either side of a completely lost looking Kane atm. You also own the middle of the park and have 2 crazy fast fullbacks to offer width.

I think Woy has second guessed himself regarding the diamond, which is why we find ourselves with a squad playing a system that suits no fucker.

It's woefully ubalanced in other ways too. We have 3 Cb's with Dier as cover yet only Dier is capable of playing as a defensive midfielder. Playing Rooney in the role he is means taking Barkely totally pointless, he wont get a minute. You take drinkwater as deep midfield cover then play Henderson or move Ali back for another of the forwards if needed.
