Four now confirmed dead, eleven injured. One of the snipers is apparently cornered in a garage or summit. Will update when I hear more.

As horrible is institutionalized racism is and as much as it needs to be tackled, the national media in the US has a lot to answer for, because the coverage of these types of killings has a massive racial disparity that isn't reflected in the data. Yes there are proportionately more black victims (unless you control for violent crime rates by race), but no where near more overall, which is the impression you'd get from TV news alone.

So it turns out the picture DPD put out isn't the suspect :brill:

Some reports saying shooters were white, others saying shooter got out a cop car, Dallas police put picture of a man who has been videoed walking the streets at time of shooting, supposed explosives rigged in several areas, car chase, camouflage bags, suspects surrender, suspects haven't surrendered, further gun fire exchanged.

It's all going off, I'm glad I didn't go to bed.

There's a pretty grim video of one of the murders online. It's all at very close range and he looks well trained.

There is some excellent footage on social media it has to be said. From what I've seen though I don't understand why they're being called snipers, as EG said, the footage shows proper close range and road length executions.

Video of the person Dallas police almost immediately named as the suspect surrendering his weapon to police https://twitter.com/dayandadream/status/751293929459314689 He's gonna get some payout from this if as it appears he's completely innocent.

Whole thing is very strange though. These shooters blitzed police in almost militaristic fashion, with a level of planning that gave the impression it was weeks in the planning, yet the event was organised with just 24 hours notice. The fuck is going on?

Periscope of the garage siege, strangely media haven't managed to get there.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
If only these people had had guns to defend themselves....

Oh.

This has to be some sort of revenge act for the murders yesterday you'd assume

Very much so - sadly probably won't be the last either.

So tragic but maybe not such a shock given recent events?

From the sound of it, the shooters have looked military trained the way they executed this with such precision.

Such a horrible sequence of events. The US has such a horrible, heart-braking problem with gun violence. I fail to see how anyone can argue against tougher regulation

The American population as a whole know deep down they have a serious issue with guns and I suspect even the worst gun-toting fuckwit knows that tougher gun regulations would make a massive difference in the medium to long term regarding gun related injuries and deaths. However, they're conditioned from a young age that guns are a fundamental part of their culture. And because it's passed from one generation to the next en-mass, it's almost impossible to break. The odious NRA also plays more than their share as well, ensuring with finance and lobbying that any sensible regulations doesn't get passed into law.

I can't see an end to it myself, and it's gotten to the point where I'm well and truly desensitised. The only thing we can hope is that the rest of the civilized world continue to look at the American firearm ownership culture and the resulting death rates and use it as an example of what to avoid. Simple common sense tells anyone that firearms should never be allowed in the general population without strict regulation, if at all.

I just popped in to make sure someone made the "if only they had guns...." quip that is hilariously trotted out each time one of these situations occurs and I wasn't disappointed.

I doubt that very much. They didn't lie, he was a suspect.
Except he wasn't. Or if he was, there was no reason for him to be. He was performing an open carry, which is legal. He did nothing to suggest he would be the shooter, so why did the police put his name out all over the news and internet?

I'd like to know if they plan to release a statement explaining why they came to view him as a suspect. Because it had no base to it whatsoever. They panicked, saw a guy carrying a gun in the march and threw his face out to get crucified. That guy could have easily gotten killed by police/local nut jobs looking for revenge. Their behaviour was dangerous, reckless and could have led to an innocent man getting killed. His safety was put at risk for no reason. He has every right to sue them.

I think the risk of more people dying through him not being quickly confirmed or eliminated as someone involved is a little bit more of an imminent threat than some hypothetical group of vigilante murderers.

The cops should have shot them in the leg or tasered them! Or maybe even better just use a baton! After all they are superheroes!

If the shooters do turn out to be black then Trump will be licking his lips.

  1. The gunman has been named as 25-year-old Micah Xavier Johnson
  2. Upset about police killings of black people, Johnson said he wanted to kill whites, especially white police officers

I do have sympathy for the black community on this matter but this is just going to escalate the problem.

What do you do though when the people who should be protecting you are the ones you are at war with?

Multiculturalism does not work across the board.

Stop being a plank.

Multiculturalism doesn't work when you've got a system that purposely instigates keeping a demographic of people poor and then makes billions of the back of it.

One shooter per Dallas PD. A well trained prick sniping from leverage, i.e. not among the protesters. By all accounts the rally went peacefully and was subsiding when the chaos began.

Yet there are should-have-been-bedding-stains attributing these murders to the black community The black community did a damn fine job creating Griezmann's second goal yesterday; they had Kimmich on toast. Sorry – not Kimmmich, the white community.
