The Vase final was a decent watch, Hereford looked like they'd boss it after the first twenty minutes but Morpeth were able to battle back, a couple of the Morpeth goals were pretty fortunate as no way was it a 4-1 pasting.

Couldn't watch the game as I had an appointment and just got back, but it looks like I didn't miss anything? Kinda expected it really as Grimsby got what they were really after so this was a game they could do without (I think)

Hmm, I've just seen Hereford's result. Totally not what I had expected, but then again I don't know anything about Morpeth.

I only managed to get a stream working at half time but the second half we have been absolutely dreadful, only when Arnold came on did we look even remotely like scoring.

Do you really want to go back into the League saying 'hey we won the FA Trophy!' ?

FGR fans;

How does it feel knowing that we only turned good when Monkhouse got injured and today's performance was how we've played since January and last the last two Sunday's were a one off?!

Cheers for the efforts Monkey but get yourself a holiday home and give it up.

Gonna slam Paul Hurst Football Genius for that one. Same shape as last week yet we took out our rapid winger for our lamppost winger. If you're gonna play Monkhouse just go 4-4-2. Tit.

Glad we don't have to enter this ballache of a competition again. Been nothing but a pain in the arse for us since we came down!

Went along with a Grumsby supporting mate today - Grimsby were terrible! Really reminiscent of us when we were on our bad patch in the Conference last season - 11 players that looked like they were introduced to the system last night. No runners, no one challenging for the second ball, confusion all round. Nsiala was really decent, certainly looked class. Bogle and Amond invisible, didn't know Nolan was on the pitch and Robertson and Tait were turd. I know you can play better than that, but where down there you can play like that and get points, you can't up here. If the problem is Monkhouse, get rid!

Really enjoyed the Morpeth/Hereford game. The two Hereford wingers (7 and 17) looked class and way too good for the level. Then I found out that their student visas only let them play up to Step 5 and no higher! :2thumb:

Just realised we've lost two trophy finals in four years. Glad we aren't in it next year.

Yep it was all because Grimsby were dire...
But we were dire, what are we supposed to say?
The neutral Barnet supporter went and said exactly the same, no one is saying Halifax did not play well or didn't deserve to win, but no getting away from the fact that we were truly awful today and a million miles away from last weeks performance.
The 45 mins that i saw Halifax passed it about really well so well done on your victory and enjoy the day.

Nah, didn't mean to come across as bitter it did!

Thought we were excellent (well, for us!) and Grimsby were poor. Whilst Monkhouse is taking the stick, I thought Disley's legs looked gone and who took Amond and replaced him with a sunday league player?!

Nicky Wroe had a really good game and MacDonald and Peniket gave Robertson and Tait a torrid time. But, second half Burrow really came to the fore and took so much pressure off us.

Cracking day out and goes some way to making up for a terrible season.

Halifax played well and I meant no disrespect to their performance. Fans loud, players passionate after a crap season... memorable day for them! It's just that I can't say anyone really stood out for them, in my opinion. They were just better than Grimsby - their shiteness showed more than Halifax's quality (which wasn't absent)

Do that reguarly and you'll be up for 2017-18.

Well done Halifax, I'm sure Grimsby still had a good day out anyway on the back of last weeks result.

Well done to Morpeth and Halifax today, both were deserved winners.

Morpeth were clinical when they got the chance, they played well on the break and recycled the ball well. Hereford had lots of possession but no real killer instinct infront of goal. However, (ex-darlo) Rob Purdie did score an absolute pearler in the 2nd minute.

Grimsby were much the same, lots of controlled possession but no real killer instinct. The front 2 were ineffective and the 2 in CM just slowed everything down too much. Halifax didn't have much quality but applied themselves and played to their strengths. Both CB's did well to keep Bogle and Amond quiet. Wroe was a good outlet in midfield and always wanted the ball. Mcmanus came up with a great finish for the goal. But the real stand out players were to 2 wingers, Peniket and the No.17 both were very positive on the ball, got their heads down and put pressure on Grimsby's full backs.

Last week I took a rucksack into the ground with loads of food in it, enough to sustain me for an afternoon and beyond. If you check the Wembley website it says that you aren't allowed to take in bottles, cans or flasks. My solution was those little drinks pouches, which are apparently OK and didn't get confiscated when my bag was checked. The people I was with had bottles of water with them, the lady on the turnstile gave them a plastic beakers to put it into. The only thing I bought was a cup of tea, which at two quid didn't strike me as particularly extortionate, though I think it might have been a fiver for a hot-dog.

Yeah, it wasn't so bad in the end - didn't mind you taking in your own food which was surprising and the gap didn't feel as long as I had expected it to, although would still have been nice to go out for a walk rather than sitting around.

The first game was decent and fair play to Morpeth. I thought Hereford should have been four or five up before Morpeth scored the first, but once they were level they just seemed to turn up and looked really decent for the rest of the game. It was almost as if they needed the goal to give them the confidence to start playing, and it was certainly a scrappy goal. But having ridden the early storm they were worth the victory.

In comparison the Trophy final was really boring. It felt more like a friendly than a cup final to me, Grimsby with a lot of the ball but no impetus, Halifax more up for it but not always with the same quality on the ball. The atmosphere was a lot flatter, it just didn't carry the same cup final feel as the first game - very much a case of Grimsby getting what they wanted last week and nobody therefore really seeming bothered about this one. It was a nice finish for the goal, but poor defending from Tait.

That's right, we only won it because Grimsby couldn't be bothered. Like they couldn't be bothered when we walloped them at The Shay. Funny how they only time they could be bothered they beat us 7-0 while they've lost more than half their games against us since we reformed.:bdick:

Let's have a bit of right here, this isn't a story all about fucking Grimsby. The record shows we've beaten you more often than not, so may be, just may be yesterday might have been more about us than about you. :bdick:

Looks like Harvey's talked himself out of a job -all that talk about how he couldn't do anything with part timers coz he didn't have enough time to work on things has counted against him. As we won't be going full time anytime soon, every time he opened his mouth he was effectively saying, I'm not the man for this job. Now the board have agreed with him- Billy Heath coming in from Ferriby this week. I have to say things are certainly different around here these days, I can't remember the last time a manager walked out on us - it used to happen all the time, now we're the ones who say "No thanks, see you around". :ds:

Nah we just didn't want such a tinpot Trophy on our rich historic record, you can have that shit :bdick:

Best of luck next season, hope you manage to go straight back up.

Ok to stop B2TF crying anymore i would just like to say that yesterday Grimsby Town played at our absolute best but unfortunately even that was not enough to see off FC Halifax and their Barcelona-esque football.
So congratulations to B2TF on winning the FA Trophy at Wembley or in roughly your own words were you 'would not be seen dead in for this mickey mouse tinpot cup'.
Well done. :2thumb::2thumb::2thumb:

I guess they needed a gap just in case the first game went to extra-time or even penalties, possibly to allow for groundstaff to replace divots on the pitch, repaint the penalty spot or so as not to interfere with the pre-match preparations for the Trophy Final teams. That was my first visit to the New Wembley and, even though the result didn't go our way, I enjoyed my day and can't wait to go back again.

Well done Halifax, I'm sure Grimsby still had a good day out anyway on the back of last weeks result.

If they had a choice I suspect the Grimsby fans would have taken winning promotion last week to winning this final I suspect (as might the Wrexham fans have done a few years back when they got to both the play-off final and Trophy final but won the latter)
