A fine convincing win to end the season against one of the poorest sides seen this past year. It augers more than well for league 2 and I can't wait for the new season to start.
A fond farewell ( hopefully for not too long ) to you lads. After 10 years I've got to know a good few of you and the one thing we all have in common is we love our football clubs. So best wishes to you and your teams going forward and I'm sure we'll meet up again

Deserved win for us, Shrewsbury were poor for large spells. We did switch off with 20mins left and could’ve made the game a bit more hairy, various changes were also made at 3-0.

Both sides will no doubt look a lot different in 3 months.
We were hopelessly outclassed until the Orient changes. The silly thing is if it wasn't for 2 outstanding saves from your keeper we could have stolen a 3-3 draw! Ageyi looked very good.

As you say, teams will be very different, especially given our retained list announced after the game

Completely agree, the ref today had a shocker, with what was on the line, he needed to be strong and was the complete opposite.
Just learnt he's Jarnail Singh's son. Not at all surprising he was totally useless. Completely lost control of the game at the half hour mark and it spiralled from there.

Allowed Pompey to take the piss and they duly obliged. Never seen three members of any opposition bench get yellows before!

Fair play to our lads for turning up and not throwing the match. Deserved that win even making 6 changes. Can't wait to see the back of league one refs.. Totally incompetent
Not that great in the Championship either!

Just been on twitter and find it bizarre how many Leyton Orient fans are laughing at us for missing out on the playoffs, calling us a horrible club for forcing the rearranged game. Absolutely deluded.
You and Charlton my tip for next season

Standard garbage at vale park, from both teams.
I was late getting there today and saw the plane that our friends from down the A500 had sent us..
My brothers in the ground had no idea about it or even seen it.
Not been mentioned, any of you lot see it?
On another note, it’s been absolutely shite up here, I can’t quite believe how bad we’ve done at it, but there’s some decent folk on this forum, and I hope our paths cross again.
Up the shitty lower league football, you really can’t beat it!

We deserve to go down and have not. Shame on the other sides for been worse.
And that fucking idiot had the audacity to come over to us fist pumping at the end. He can go now or I won’t go again. Read our Twitter page and Facebook. Everyone wants him gone.
We took a decent following and we rolled over from minute one. Tactics wrong again.
I’m so glad this season is over. It’s been fucking awful.
If we change nothing we are nailed on favourites to go down.
Sack him tonight Ben. Read the fucking room for once.
Hard luck Cheltenham. You deserved to stay up.

Does feel like the bigger picture isn't too shabby for your lot, even if on the field this season (and half of last season) must have been a hell of a grind. Been a pleasure, hope you have a good year next year.

And I hope next time we meet it's a bit better than our two encounters this year!

Imagine being that much of a twat that you pay for a plane. Especially that no one saw in the ground

Because they have had such a great season haven’t they. 2 games away from going down. They will circle the plug hole again of relegation again next season.

The thing is - we really didn't.

We tried, Lord knows we tried. The fans got behind the players like I've never seen before, the players put everything into it. We just didn't have the quality. So many times this season a chance has been given to us to get out of the relegation zone and we've failed every singled time.

Today followed the same pattern as so many other games - we get in the faces of the opposition, let them into the game and it's a bit end to end, then we gift them a goal (this time a penalty). Trail at half-time, then come out all guns blazing second half. We did brilliantly to get the goal back and for the next 5 mins or so we looked like we were possessed. We then seemed to run out of ideas and shoved Curtis Davies up front and just went long ball before being caught out near the end.

I won't criticise any of the players - each one gave everything. But we really just didn't have enough.

So long League 1 - it's been fun most of the time.

EDIT: Forgot to ask Floreat Salopia and dannylad01 you heard anything about Mickey Moore coming back to Cheltenham? A rumour has started going round about it, from creditable sources as well.

Well, today was a good day!

To make the play offs and to finish fifth is a brilliant achievement considering this time last season we were happy to secure our safety (given Karl Robinson’s kamikaze final 18 months) and Liam Manning’s unexpected departure.

How we got here I have absolutely no idea. It doesn’t feel like we are deserving despite results but the footballing Gods have been favourable.

I weirdly don’t feel particularly stressed about the play offs nor do I have any grand expectations. I’m sure I’ll feel differently come next week, but right now it feels like 5th is more than was ever expected of these players. This time around in the play offs there doesn’t feel like there’s any expectation. Most Oxford fans expect Bolton to win it and to be honest I’m sure most Bolton fans probably do too!

This isn’t the most consistent group of players nor the best group we’ve had so if we get anywhere it’s a bonus. Regardless whether we stay in League One or not I expect a bit of churn this summer. Some wanted and some unwanted, so hopefully they’ll give us everything.

For now, we’ll enjoy the ride…

Agree entirely, we've had our chances and with a bit more quality (or every one of our chances falling to Taylor) we'd be fine.

Olayinka's chance with 10-15 minutes to go was a prime example - Matty Taylor buries that, but I wouldn't be confident in any of our other players in that position and so it proved.

That chance was when I knew. That goes in, we win the game. Was a good save by the keeper, but Tayls definitely puts that in.

96th minute equaliser away at Barnsley, top end to a top season really. Great day in Barnsley great people and great pubs.

Also - finished ahead of Rovers and Scunny lost their NLN play off semi final so that feels like a wound healed….

I’ve heard nothing but there does seem to be some tension between Hurst & Moore going by Hursty’s interviews. I hope it’s right and he does piss off back to Cheltenham, bloke has been a disaster since coming through the door and I don’t think I know of one Salop fan that doesn’t want him sacked. We need a huge rebuild and what better way to start than getting rid of him!

There is a backstory to this, although funny most of the ground didn’t see it…

In 2018 we did it to them when they went down from the Prem with the same line from Delilah, actually as they got relegation v Palace IIRC.

So the favour returned is fair enough but could have come up with something different at least! And actually done it so it could be seen in the ground!

No not heard anything on the Moore thing either. Not popular at all our end though and hard to see how he fits in with Hurst as manager.

What's the beef with Scunthorpe?

Lad I work with is a Scunny fan who’s always banging on about how they ‘threw’ the last game of the season - he’s an absolute tool and is always on about how Scunny will be back stronger. So very nice to see them lose, Monday will be fun.

Was really surprised by Barnsley yesterday too, thought sacking their manager would give the whole place some impetus but it was very flat. Was expecting us to be 2-0 down after 20 minutes or something similar. Can’t see the other teams facing much trouble in the playoffs.

Just watching the highlights, looks a great effort from Cheltenham. Shame. Also, Paterson seems a bit deluded in that post match interview for Burton.

Having stayed up in a similar manner to how Burton did on the final day in this league not once but twice where we couldn't be arsed and lost to teams with nothing to play for, I would be absolutely embarrassed if we stayed up because other results went our way.

Imagine being turned over by a relegated side yet because Cheltenham run out of steam, you see it as a cue to fist bump and celebrate like you've won the league.

I totally get it if you've earned your safety with a win or even a point, but to be turned over like that I'd feel embarrassed about celebrating anything.

The guy is a bellend. All his chest slapping and fist pumping. We are not buying it.
If he is not sacked I’m not going again. He should never set foot near a football club again. Total fraud.

A poor end to our worst season in 98 years. Would have gone down if Appleton stayed is the only positive. Surely next season can only be better

We are embarrassed. A lot of us left on thr final whistle to get into Blackpool.
We stayed up due to someone else losing and he think it’s worth a celebration and a party.
“I did what I was told to do - keep the club up “ no you didn’t. You lost 8 on the bounce at home and have ruined some promising careers.
Fans have turned - I don’t know anyone that wants him to stay.
Fuck off today back to Stoke and stay there you prick
