One of the biggest joke sackings for quite a while this.

You look at Palace's managerial history and see the type of manager they've had, Warnock, Pulis, Allardyce etc. All very good firefighters but with a limit in how far they can take a team.

Getting Frank de Boer was an absolute coup. This is Crystal Palace for goodness sake. They had a real chance to go to the next level if they had just shown a bit of patience and not panicked straight away. Was De Boer perfect? No? But he wouldn't have taken Palace down this season. Anyone who watched the Burnley game can see that. It's a long season and they've bottled it, completely bottled it.

Now they're looking to appoint Hodgson, a manager in the same vein as those above. Where's the ambition?

I for one hope they go down now. That would be hilarious.

Hipster. He's crap.

You know it's already fucked when the talk is of "philosophy" rather than winning football matches.

Basically, you've seen it not go well for him at Inter. So in your mind, because it's started bad at Palace, he's a no hoper. Let's not bullshit though, Inter were in a mess when he went there. That job was doomed from the beginning.

Managers need time, especially those who bring a brand of football to the Premier League that the majority of players in that squad won't be used to. Should the manager adapt? Initially, slightly, but I think he'd started to do that after realising in the first game that he'd chucked in too much too soon. They shouldn't have hired him if they didn't want to buy into his way though and the Chairman has absolutely pushed the panic button because he realises Hodgson will revert to safety tactics that will near enough ensure survival. For me, De Boer would have kept them up and then he'd have quite possibly taken them to the next level. We'll never know now, but Palace are never going to evolve with this ownership. They're scared of change as shown by the multitude of 'yer Da' appointments.

You don't piss about with cliches of evolving, brand of football & next level when you're in the PL son. This ain't the lower leagues it doesn't cut the mustard. Crap decision to appoint him in the first place but respect to them for sacking him off.

We played well yesterday, so dunno why we've done this. Probably had a bigger falling out with Parish than was reported.

Hodgson is ok though, done well with Fulham and WBA, and we're never going to be more than a boring nothing club.

If its any consolation, most of our fans are annoyed by this, and I don't really care about football anymore :dk:

We'll agree to disagree then.

It's not a cliche though. De Boer embraces a style of play and would in time attract a higher calibre of player which would allow Palace to have a higher ceiling in terms of finishes over time. They're basically happily to stay amongst the bottom 10 and do the West Brom trick of scraping to 40-50 points every season. Sometimes in life, you need to step out of the comfort zone and take a risk. Palace did that, and then shat themselves because it started a bit more rocky than they expected.

How can you go from agreeing what would've been a pretty lucrative contract, to having such a big fall out so soon? Something not right there.

I've never minded Woy, apart from the Iceland embarrassment I thought he did ok for England, and he did very well at both Fulham and West Brom recently, which are better comparisons to use than England and Liverpool. You wonder if respect has completely gone for him now though. I remember Stoke were laughed at for appointing Hughes after his spell at QPR, he's worked out pretty well for them. But I suppose on the other hand he could also end up being more of a Schteve McClaren...

That's a nonsense. Money & money solely allows a club to expand their ceiling.

Hughes has been shite

Think he's done a decent job of changing them from the Pulis-ball era, although last season wasn't very exciting. They look good this season so far, but how far can clubs like this really go.
Certainly hasn't been the joke appointment many thought it'd be.

Farcical stuff. You don't hire a manager promising to instill a new brand of football and sack him after four games. Impossible to know how good a coach he is after such a limited amount of time (given Hodgson's swift appointment they must have been putting the feelers out after three games or less). Makes Parish, or whoever it is making the decisions, look completely amateurish and incompetent tbh.

Managers are been sacked way too soon even in the national league. Looks like palace are doing a birmingham and cardiff and going to appoint a pensioner. At least they wont have to pay roys stamp

To be fair, I'm not sure the Parish ever did promise a new brand of football. Didn't he effectively sit next to FDB at his unveiling and say the typical "this is a results based business", "our fans don't care what style of football" etc....?

Hodgson is way more experienced than Frank de Boer and he knows every aspect of English football. However, his track record isn't very convincing.

Is it not? That's probably the best thing about the boring old fool.

De Boer came across to me as a bit of an idiot. You don't join a club (especially one like Crystal Palace) and try to change absolutely everything on day one, outcasting important first team players in the process. You stick to the basic principals that made Palace so successful towards the end of last season, earn the trust of the players and fans etc, then implement the changes you want to make as you go. Apparently the club lost confidence in him two weeks ago, can only imagine how he was acting behind the scenes for that to happen.

Did he oust anyone? I thought the problem was that it was the same players being put in a system they can't perofrm in.

Hiroshima that. It's the opposite, he couldn't deploy tactics for his players to perform with.
