A lot riding on the "Cumbrian Derby" at the weekend. Defeat for Carlisle and a win for Southend could see the former slip to just 18 points clear of the relegation zone. A win for Barrow would give them a massive boost going into their midweek clash against champions Exeter.

Hopefully go for win 6 on the spin, fancy us with how we are playing but Morecambe regardless of form always come and shithouse us, did it earlier in the season with a dodgy penalty after parking the bus San Marino style, their keeper having a world class display against us a couple of seasons back when we absolutely battered them and lost 1-0...

A win here could have us mathematically safe with Grimsby losing and Southend failing to win, important to maintain our own standards of recent weeks ahead of a big summer and providing hope and positivity for the new structure in place.

Play like we have been I think we will edge it 2-0, but as always with Vale a kick in the bollocks is always around the corner.

The current form table is about as much use as a current bun when it comes to end of season games and predicting a result.

Hanson to score a hat trick against his former club and Grimsby Town FC to win 1-4. You heard it here first!

Last Hat Trick scored by a Town player was JJ Hooper in an end of season match at Forest Green; 5th May 2018. It's been bollox since!

Cant remember the last Vale hatrick, we had about 5 or 6 in the 2012/13 promotion season, Pope had about 3 including a 4 goal haul and Hughesy against Burton but can’t think of one since!

Hanson scored one hatrick for us from memory, beat Walsall 4-0 at home, Etheridge in goal who was brilliant despite the score line.

We've been searching for a team in shit enough form for us to actually get a result against. I think Walsall might be that team. If we lose this game as well then our title charge really is looking in doubt.

Mansfield away at the start of a week that could be season defining for us as we play carlisle at home tuesday and cambridge at home next weekend, we have 2 games in hand on cambridge and 1 on the other teams above us, so 7 points or better out of that lot would certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons seeing as we also have cheltenham at home in a few weeks time.

Ah shit its the hope that kills you.

I'm nervous as hell for every game at the moment, I hope to god our team are keeping their emotions in check better than me. Exeter are a a bit of a bogie team for us in recent years too - we've only beaten them once in the last nine games between us. I guess now is as good a time as any to put that to bed.

Keeper aside, we should be pretty much full strength. A positive for us is that Exeter really need to be winning games to get in the play offs so should attack us. Hopefully that'll open things up a bit.

Grimsby at home, 3-0 win, the charge to finish 8th rolls on.

Our games are usually quite drab affairs with the odd exception, and I’ve always found Paul Hurst teams boring so expecting a 0-0 or 1-0 either way.

Presumably they're taking our awful record against you into account. I never expect us to beat Exeter.

Be nice if we could keep the run going but on the other hand I am hoping Morecambe take one of those promotion spots so wouldn’t be too mad if we fell short. Not least as they always cause us a lot of headaches when playing them so looking to next season not having that on the fixture list would be good.

Our job is done pretty much this season though it’s possible we could make top half which is something to aim for at least.

I want a win here really, just want to keep the feel good factor going, it’s been a horrible winter in lockdown with Vale being terrible so feels nice to be buzzing for once!

Exeter again ffs! I could be wrong but I think they're the side that we've met most since election to the FL in 1970. A glass half full person will say that's only because we're both crap, but I'm enjoying this season so I'll say that's because the two teams just cannot bear to be apart.

I know they're not in great form at the moment but they're still a very good side. It would be a massive win if we can beat them obviously but I don't think I would be that disappointed with a draw, esp. taking into account our GD.

It will be interesting how we play now that we're on 50 points and safe. Will we continue this good form or will we play some fringe players or play like we are on the beach with nothing really to play for. We tend to struggle against morecambe at home so will go for a score draw 1 1 with conlon scoring for vale.

I can’t imagine them daring to go on the beach under Clarke!

I expect our customary end of season 5-0 helping hand to go to Grimsby though this year!

I think he will go same XI if he can for now, need to have a look at Scott in goal though before seasons end to see if worth a deal. Not sure what’s happened with Pope, can’t even get a look in on the bench at the moment!

A big test of our team since they became more efficent - 6 clean sheets in Jobi McAnuffs 9 games so far, now we come up against Cheltenham and their long throw which has caused teams problems recently.

We can only afford one more loss if we're to make the playoffs now IMO, this is the fixture its most likely to happen in. We need to win 5 maybe 6 of our remaining games to stand any chance - I don't think we're quite good enough for the top 7, but if we can finish top 10 it would still be fine progress for us.

Injuries have come at the wrong time, Left sided CB Dan Happe could be out for the rest of the season with a groin injury which is a blow because he gives us alot of balance and is a good ball player as well as defender.

Losing Adam Thompson, Nick Freeman, Ruel Sotiriou and Lee Angol as well has slowed us down. Angol is our only targetman striker who can win balls in the air and we've seen the last of him, so we can only really play one way.

Next week we play Harrogate and Barrow and quite simply we will have to win both of these games to stand any chance of the top 7.

Think we'll concede. We've been poor at set pieces lately and Grimsby's forward line looks set up for a lot of crosses into the box. But I think if we score early it'll be comfortable enough.

I'll be watching Mansfield v Newport keenly, both teams who (like us to be fair) can be great one week and terrible the next. If we're to be in this playoff chase then we could do with Newport dropping points. Could also do with Exeter dropping points but that seems like a bit of a given at the moment and Newport are the team who could all but end the playoff challenge for a lot of teams with a good run.

Our two away wins in the above form table are so long ago it feels like they were in a different season.

Walsall are out of form, so are we, this game has 0-0 written all over it...unless pre-game we can agree not to bother to defend at all, not even slightly, and go for all out attack...in which case it could be a 5-5 game, but considering our lack of punch up front I might still be tempted to go for 0-0.
