Bit unlucky on the 2 penalty calls but overall Newcastle didn't do enough to get much out of that and Benitez did admit that.

That right back for Fulham looked very tidy indeed, they defended really well and fully deserved it. Newcastle still have a few players with bad attitudes for me, Shelvey basically gave up with 10 minutes left and just started needlessly fouling players, Colback, Dummett and Anita were abysmal, that keeper looked dodgy and Perez is too lightweight for the Championship. In fact on that showing I'd sell Perez and use Armstrong with Gayle and Mitrovic instead, he looked good when he came on. Then use the money and signing some more creativity. Having said that, Diame will be good when he comes in.

You know it's a classic welcome to the Championship when you're beaten by a Matt Smith header! :D

Didn't think the second one was a penalty, he was throwing himself at it and it deflected up off his knee. First one was cast iron though.

We've just successful navigated our first unbeaten pre-season in 21 years and although the toughest opposition we've played were Doncaster, it's still no mean feat.
Just goes to show, pre season results mean fuck all.

I'm surprised Shelvey didn't start, I don't rate him that highly but he should run the show at this level with his range of passing.

Unlucky with the penalties, but I thought Newcastle looked like a bunch of individuals rather than a team.

I must say, Fulham have made a great improvement on the defense. Considering 3 out of the 4 defenders were making their debuts, it was all in all a great defensive display from Fulham. Saying that Newcastle were still sub-standard. Anita and Perez were both terrible, and nobody had that good of a game. Ritchie was probably the best player for Newcastle and even then he wasn't great.

I did get the feeling Newcastle fans and the media (in particular) had been underestimating the Championship; there was even talk of going unbeaten.
There's a reason so many big sides have been stuck there for years, it's a tough, tough league (And I'd argue the most exciting).

They'll of course be in the hunt, and may well win it, but I've heard phrases such as 'every teams cup final' being thrown about which is both disrespectful to the rest of the league and way over-arrogant.

God knows where you've heard that like. Even last time we were well beaten a few times and that's never going to be emulated again.

Yes I expected us to win yesterday but no one attached to the Club, fan or otherwise, is claiming that - I even had us finishing 'top 6' as I appreciate the neutral media had us as clear favourites.

Anyway, I'm on the peeve today lads, so expect some drink induced rants as the day goes on.
