Brabin left us to take up his "dream job" at Everton, which also has increased job security. I'd be surprised if he'd give that up for what is just another Conference club manager's job.

I think we're the only set of supporters who actually appreciate his managerial abilities. He may not set up a side of world-beaters, but in his times here he has got the best out of average players.

Luton fans weren't too impressed but then no-one was good until John Still came in.

NLP reporting Brabin is the man for Tranmere. They were bang on with their Mills story.

Someone said it's being announced tuesday, and we have our main target. Whatever that means.

Don't be so sure about it not getting worse! It may get worse before it gets better. Maybe you will be lucky and do well but clubs generally get relegated to the conference for a reason and it might be that you will need to restructure and get a handle on the large drop in income before you are able to challenge again.

The only clubs which tend to challenge straight away are those with very large fanbases (Luton, Bristol Rovers) or those that have owners prepared to subsidise their clubs to a very large extent and bankroll a promotion push.
Er like Barnet?? (neither if those!)

True, although he was bad even comparatively. Only Buckle somehow turned out worse. Brabin was clueless for us, completely terrible. As Richard Money said when we were calling for his head and Brabin was waiting in the wings to replace him, "be careful what you wish for!"

He does try to play nice football but he's not tactically astute enough to do it. He's also apparently a horrible defensive coach, we leaked soft late goals at an unbelievable rate during his tenure. He does come across as a genuine guy but he was clearly out of his depth with us and seemed a sad, depressed nervous wreck by the time we sacked him. I'd like to say some nice things about him... he did technically sign Andre Gray so I guess you could say he can spot talent... but then that was about his four hundredth signing of the season so he was bound to sign one or two good ones eventually.

As I say, sacked in December with the club lying in circa 17th position.

From Brabin's track record, he'll either do well and jump ship for something better, or not live up to expectations and get sacked. If Paul Carden leaves us to join him as his assistant I think I'll explode!

No idea how this one'll turn out. Fingers crossed he does better than our last couple of managers though.

Hmmm... not sure about this one.

Looks like Tranmere are going for managers who know this level, something which is essential. But I'm not quite sure Brabin is the right fit, or at least not as good a fit as Mills would have been. Never quite been able to get over the line with Luton and Cambridge - we'll see though.

His managerial record isn't too shabby

Played 140
Won 67
Drew 42
Lost 31

Win % 47.86

I'd take that all day long.

Big step down from trying to land Mills, but Brabin isn't that bad a manager to be honest.

He was always our number one, hence why mills didn't stick around.

My memories of Brabin are;
1) a picture of him with his hands around a Forest Green players' throat. The guy had had the temerity to try to retrieve the ball from the Luton dugout. I'm sure that someone could find the picture somewhere.
2) his post match interviews after defeats -
interviewer 'So Gary, what went wrong today?'
Brabin 'errrrrrrrr (imagine scouse accent here) I errrrrrr don't errrrr really errrrrrr know errrrrr.'

Oh, and picking the wrong team v Wimbledon at Manchester, then making a mess of the substitutions.

We don't know the chronology re Mills and Brabin, whether GB had been already interviewed when we spoke to Mills. On paper Mills is obviously the stronger candidate as actually took York into the league, whereas Brabin only has play-off failure on his cv.

But if not Brabin who? Rovers could probably pay a small amount of compensation for an in-post manager, but there don't seem to be an abundance of out of work managers with good conference track-records. Which names have Rovers overlooked, who would do a decent job for us?

The problem Brabin will have is the opposite to the Torquay situation. In January, the new recruits were signed on 6 month deals with extension options, which given how dismally they performed are unlikely to be taken up by the club, even if the players wished to stay. I think that leaves us with Ridehalgh, Holness, Ihiekwe, Kirby, Stockton, George Donnelly and the four first season pros who've signed this month.

I'm not sure to be honest, Mills seems to thrive at clubs moving forwards, as much as Tranmere fans may not want to hear I think they've got some more suffering to come before they turn that corner and Mills may have struggled in that environment.

I remember Gary Brabin the footballer from his Hull days, seemed to single handedly keep them in the football league. A rough tough tackling hard man in the middle of the park, every team needs one. If any of his playing qualities have rubbed off onto his management stile then there will be no hiding place in Prenton park for any under performers.
Tranmere have got a good crop of youngsters coming through the ranks, hopefully GB can nurture their progress further with what's left of the first team squad and with some of the better seasoned old hands of the conference league to come in, in the summer, losing more at home than winning will hopefully become something of the past.
With a top 4 budget the bar has been set high. Come August we'd better hit the ground running as this league ain't for mugs.

He was crap for us, tactically inept and brought in a whole host of very poor players, his policy appeared to be sign as many players as possible and some of them are bound to be ok.

It was an absolute huge error to give him the job after what was a pretty poor stint after Money left. Got the playoff final hopelessly wrong.

Not sure there where many other options though really.

Fancy starting this season with a circa 35% bigger budget than you started last season.
