Bundesliga Clubs in European Competitions 2016/17 : Part1

Champions League:
Borussia Dortmund (6-0 at Legia Warsaw)
Bayern München (5-0 against Rostov)
Bayer Leverkusen (2-2 against Moscow)
Borussia Mönchengladbach (0-4 at Man City)

Europa League:
Schalke 04 (1-0 at Nice)
FSV Mainz 05 (1-1 against St.Etienne)

Borussia will fight with Real Madrid for #1 (and probably lose so it will be #2)
Bayern will win #1 in this group (and beat Atletico for it this time)
Leverkusen will fight for #2 but probably only get #3 and the Europa League
Gladbach will fight for #3 with Celtic (and will win this, can't be that they are in both of their first 2 CL Season out of competition after the group stages

Schalke is strong enough to win its group
Mainz could get problems to qualify as #2 in this group

I don't know. I watched them against Eintracht Braunschweig where they lost 1-6 and they were really awful. And yesterday again 5 Goals, that's 11 now in 2 Games.
And next weekend there is the "Franken Derby" with Fürth, one of the oldest Derby's in German League Football (Fürth was 3-times German Champion (1914, 1926, 1929) and that era was the best of Nürnberg, too (9-times German Champion, 5 of these in the 1920's).
Fürth itself lost against newly promoted Würzburger Kickers 0-3 at home. So this Derby could be important for the coaches.
Another tradititon rich club at the bottom of the 2nd Bundesliga: Kaiserslautern. Very sad to see this, with their following and wonderful stadium they should play in the top flight and not maybe in the 3.Bundesliga.

Dortmund is actually on a run. The second 6-0 win in 3 Days. Great performance of the BVB today.

Unfortunately the same can't be said from my HSV. A 0-4 home loss really hurts and against this plastic club from Leipzig it hurts even more. It's the first time ever that I left the Volksparkstadium early. After 80 min I was so gutted that I couldn't watch it anymore. This will be another long long season. Fuck! If bloody Werder will get a result this evening against Gladbach we are again in the Relegation zone

(at least Eintracht Braunschweig won its 5th game in a row in the 2.Bundesliga)

First sacking of the new season:

Werder just sacked Coach Viktor Skripnik after yesterdays 1-4 defeat at Gladbach. I can't say that I am surprised but I kind of liked Skripnik (albeit he coached Werder). With him they sacked his "deputies" Florian Kohfeldt and Torsten Frings (former German International), too. Interims coach is now U23 coach Alexander Nouri.

Midweek Matchday in Bundesliga 1 and 2:

And again a really bad matchday: HSV lost at newcomer Freiburg with 1-0 due to a goalie error from Rene Adler in the 70th minute. Unbelievable that all 9 goals against HSV in this season were shot after the 65th minute. Clearly a hint of a lack of concentration at the end of the match. In Leverkusen they even threw away a 1-0 after the 80th minute with 3 Goals.
Now we have 1point after 4 matches and next weekend the mighty Bayern are coming to the Volksparkstadion :sur:

And to make this matchday even worse: Eintracht Braunschweig lost its first match of the season after 5 wins. Away at Stuttgart whose coach quitted last week.

Borussia Dortmund with a 5-1 win at Wolfsburg. These guys have now 17 Goals in the last 3 matches. But this time they had some problems for about 20 minutes where Wolfsburg scored for the 1-2 and had chances to even the match but another brilliant counter attac broke their will.

I watched the Wolfsburg v Dortmund game and BVB weren't even that good. Completely devastating on the counter, but Wolfsburg could have easily had three or four themselves. Mario Gomez the main culprit, as usual.

Dirk - is this the year you guys go down after a few close shaves?

Bremen look very poor though.

Certainly the new boys seem to be fitting in well unlike previous season.

No, never. Mark my words!

It doesn't look good atm but the team isn't so bad as the results may show. I think the last 10 minutes against Leverkusen where we got 3 goals and lost 3 points are not "digested" yet. The following match against RB Leipzig was okay for 65 min or so and then it happened again, this time 4 Goals and yesterday they could've drawn but this error of Rene Adler in the 70 th minutes denied us. I don't know what it is, they are anxious at the moment. Even Rene Adler has some mistakes now and he doesn't look good and he is now only a faint reminiscence of the once best goalkeeper in Germany he was before WC 2010. They need a good result asap otherwise we have another new coach which won't be good because we already had enough in the last years before Bruno Labbadia came.

Bremen look very poor though.

they haven't improved from last season yet, where they secured their stay in the last match. Let's see what the new coach (and actually the interims coach) can achieve.

It would be a disaster when both clubs go down and the most played Derby in the Bundesliga is played next season in the 2.Bundesliga. In now 53 full Bundesliga season both played 52 years together and before the Bundesliga they played together in the former First League (Oberliga Nord). I don't want to think about a match against Werder in the 2nd Bundesliga.

At least you'd have your proper derby back...:animatedf:

:obama:

apropos Werder: Has someone seen Serge Gnabry's Goal for Werder last weekend? Fantastic for Werder that they could bring him back to Germany. At Arsenal under Wenger he would have been wasted away. He already was great for the German Olympic team where he scored 6 Goals. I wished he would have chosen HSV instead of Werder.

Here is his goal (could only find this version. His Goal is at 1.15 min.

I think if Hamburg were to go down, they would have done it sooner. They've had some seriously shit squads in the past compared to this season's.

Werder could do a Stuttgart...

Das Krise continues for Schalke and Werder who both lost at home to Köln and Mainz respectively tonight.

Today I can't watch the HSV match at the Volksparkstadion live but I am sure they'll do it without me. It's only f******g Bayern Munich who'll already have their minds on the Champions League match, right? ;)

And, come on guys, you are playing for your coach, too. It isn't enough to back the coach after these pain in the arse comments of board-member Beiersdorfer. Give the coach a good result, at least a draw. He rescued the HSV only 2 seasons ago and doesn't deserve to get fired after the match.

Great fight from the HSV. Until the 88th minute they hold a 0-0 draw against Bayern. But then it was Kimmich who broke through the HSV defense Rene Adler with a brilliant performance this time but even he couldn't save the match in the end. The players really played their hearts out this time and they played for Bruno Labbadia, too. And the HSV Fans applauded Bruno after the match. But this fucking moron Dietmar Beiersdorfer made again a nasty remark after the match, so maybe we'll see a new coach soon

HSV lost the match in the last 2 minutes and Werder Bremen won its match in the last 4 minutes with 2 goals. Just one of those days :ffs:

Are Bayern finding it more difficult to find the net under Carlo than Pep? (Open question.)

I don't know. They create enough chances. Tbh, they could've won 3 or 4-0 if not Rene Adler had shown why he once was the best goalie in Germany.

Interesting to hear was, that Carlo Ancelotti is the first Bayern Coach ever who has won his first 8 competitive matches (in League. CL, Cup)

RB Leipzig set a new record yesterday with its 2-1 win against FC Augsburg.
First newcomer in Germany's Top Flight who is still unbeaten after its first 6 matches.

tbh slowly I am getting some respect what Ralf Rangnick has developed here (as coach and sporting director). I still can't stand the concept of these "Red Bulls" clubs but apart from that they are thick-loaded with young talents.

Two of the other 3 unbeaten clubs are playing against each other today: Bayern Munich vs FC Cologne. It's great to see the "Geißböcke (Billygoats)" in the top 4 again but tbh I doubt that they'll remain unbeaten after this match. Bayern lost Wednesday at Atletico Madrid and they don't lose 2 in a row. I mean I would be happy if it happens but ....nah, simply not realistic ;)

I am very nervous about Hertha BSC vs HSV. First match for Markus Gisdol in charge and although I am still angry about the firing of Bruno Labbadia, I am hoping that we'll see an "attacking" HSV again. 2 Goals in 5 matches that's the HSV from 2-3 years ago where we were in serious trouble because no one could score. Now we have Bobby Wood ( who made those 2 goals) and Lasogga should score again soon, if he plays against his former club.

Do you actually rate Wood? Not good enough for Bundesliga top tier imo.

He made all the HSV Goals so far, what should I write? He's an international for the U.S and I think he can play at this level although he played before only in the 2nd Bundesliga for Union Berlin and Aue but he made his goals for the clubs he played before that's all that counts in the end. 2 Goals in 5 matches isn't that bad.

Leverkusen vs Dortmund today, should be a good match. Gotze and Kagawa on bench. Dembele and Pulisic both starting for Dortmund.

Big chance for BVB to close the gap to Bayern after their draw today.

mistermagic : Without hearing the podcast (I see it's over 55 mins, too long now ) I would say in most teams in professional football you have nowadays "mercenaries" who don't care a lot about the club. If they get a better offer from another club or the club will be relegated they leave the club.
Especially at HSV we haven't Idols now like Uwe Seeler, Manny Kaltz, Horst Hrubesch who identified themselves with the club. But that's not only a HSV Problem. OK, some clubs have these players even nowadays who are committed to the club (thank god).

To the Berlin vs HSV match: It was a match of #1 vs #2 (but only in city population ; ) ). The first half was the best I've seen this season from the HSV but they couldn't score as always. So 0-2, another loss (5 out of 6 now )

Gladbach continue their dreadful away form! Although I didn't think that it was a 4-0 match, that's what it says on the results sheet...

Wow, VfB Stuttgart seems to have adapted to 2nd Bundesliga Football now. Yesterday a convincing 4-0 against Fürth in front of 40.000 at the Mercedes Benz Arena. The new coach Hannes Wolf seems to be the right man now after Jos Luhukay couldn't reach the team and quitted the job himself.
That's "bad news" for the 2 Lower Saxonian Clubs, Eintracht Braunschweig and Hannover 96, who are still on top with 19pts and 17pts, but Stuttgart with 16pts already at third (relegation playoff place with the #16 from the Bundesliga)

Unfortunately St.Pauli again at #18. Normally a HSV Fan should mock about it but I am not normal :D and I don't do that because first I like the Pirates Fans of St.Pauli and second the HSV is in exact the same situation one league above. Football in Germany's second largest city is on the bottom actually.

Interesting Match today between #3 and #2, namely Dortmund and Hertha BSC Berlin.

Dortmund's Coach Thomas Tuchel has complained after the loss against Leverkusen that the opponents are playing with too much aggression against his team. This was seen by many other coaches as whining, let's see how Hertha reacts today before 81.000 at Dortmund (their coach Pal Dardai was one of those who made statements about it)

First half a bit boring but the second was very good. Although Hertha had a bit of luck (Aubameyang with a lop at the crossbar and a failed penalty) they deserved this draw.

Funny that the two fairest teams in the Bundesliga so far, ended with one man less each. After the "too agressive opponents" Debate Sky Germany annoyed us with a "foul-counter" every time a (normal) foul occured. Idiots.

RB Leipzig are certainly making their mark on the league - a win at Wolfsburg today.
