So if Frankfurt win, Bayern (who destroyed Bayer 6-2 last night) will meet their future coach in the Pokal final. Interesting. If they win that game 5-0, not many people will be impressed by Kovac and you can't have Bayern playing a final with the assumption that they won't do everything in their power to win. Say what you will about this club but bottlers they are not.

I actually fancy Schalke to take it tonight. Simply put, they're the better side between the two.

Quite an effort from Kovac bringing Eintracht into the final for 2 years in a row (although normally they won't have a chance, only if Bayern rests most of their squad for the Champions League final which will be one week later (ui, hopefully I don't have jinxed this now )

Boring match in the 1st half, 2nd a bit better but not much. Some hectic from Schalke players after the disallowed goal.
Had to laugh about this Fernandes guy. Came as a substitute in the 78th minute and 33 seconds later (!) he got the red card and could leave the field again

That is really worth to be mentioned:

Jonas Hector, Germany International and pretty sure part of the WC squad has extended his contract and will even play for cologne in the second Bundesliga. He also rejected offers from Munich and Dortmund.

Also Timo Horn extended bis contract and rejected the offer from Dortmund to be their Number One for the upcoming future.

2.Bundesliga, actually Arminia Bielefeld vs FC Kaiserslautern 2-2. With only 10 minutes to play, this means that the FCK will be playing 3. Liga next season for the first time ever (sounds a bit familiar to me ).

Only a win at Bielefeld would give them another week of hope. Damn, this is really sad that this proud club, the club of legend Fritz Walter, 4 times German Champions (they've done the unique thing winning the 2.Bundesliga and 1.Bundesliga title in successive seasons in 1997 and 1998) will be going down. They were relegated from the Bundesliga in 2012 and never came back and now they're going down to the 3rd tier. It looks like the Pfälzer will be accompanied by the Lillies, Darmstadt 98. They would go down from 1st to 3rd tier in successive season
Relegation place in Bundesliga 2 is actually for St.Pauli. I am, Vanni. Although we still have way to go and must rely on others. Even when it maybe isn't enough at the end the last weeks under new coach Titz were the best I've seen for nearly a decade. He brought the joy back (something he already had done with the U21 team of the HSV). 3 wins of the last 4 matches now. And suddenly an 8 points gap to the relegation playoff spot is only a 2 points gap. But next week another big away game (at Frankfurt) and then, in the last match of the season, I can watch them in the Volkspark again (versus Gladbach). Hopefully still with the chance to get #16.

I'll drink one (or two or....) beers later in the pub. Watching this match on tv was very stressful. When Philip Kostic tried and failed (again) with the penalty in the stoppage time my blood pressure went higher and higher.But funny thing is, Luca Waldschmidt scores only against Wolfsburg and he made the deflected penalty shoot for his only goal of the season (last season he scored exactly one goal too. In the last minute of the last match of the season which saved HSV and brought the relegation playoff matches to Wolfsburg....Coincidence? Omen? I don't know but again, even if it may not be enough, please HSV Board extent the contract with Coach Christian Titz asap. He has done wonders in the last weeks.

Leipzig lost again. 0-3 at Mainz, so no help from the Saxons for HSV here. They're really on the downslide ( only 1 draw in the last 4 BuLi matches (1-1 at Bremen but two 1-4 home losses (against Leverkusen and Hoffenheim), a 2-5 in the EL at Marseille and now a 0-3 at #16 Mainz). Now even the Europa League Spot is in real danger (currently they are at 6th, 1 point ahead of Frankfurt).

Tomorrow it will be like the good old times when all 9 Bundesliga matches will be played at our traditional kick off time at 3:30pm (MET).

HSV with the 2nd away game in a row ( at Frankfurt) I don't expect a win (but would take it with pleasure that's for sure) but I hope they'll play like the last matches (meaning: good). Frankfurt, as mentioned, will still be pissed about the 1-4 in Munich against Bayern III and they have still something to play for with the EL spot still reachable. And it will be Nico Kovac' last home match as Eintracht coach. So I am pretty sure they'll be motivated enough.

I really hope that Leipzig will destroy Wolfsburg. First because it's Wolfsburg and second because I want them in the Europa League next season (I don't give a shit about this "RB is scum" anymore. I think they represented the Bundesliga well enough in a shit European season and expect them to do better next season, especially better than Eintracht Frankfurt)

OK, that's it nearly for HSV. 0-3 at Frankfurt. A bit sad that Ito's 1-0 was disallowed for offside (wasn't clear even the Sky commentator doubted it). Minutes later Frankfurt made the 1-0. In the 2nd half HSV could've egalised again but Douglas Santos enormous shot was deflected from the goalie to the goalpost (and Lewis Holtby was this time clear offside when he shot the deflected ball into the goal). Then the 2-0 in the 75th and even the 3-0 in stoppage time by Eintracht legend Alex Meier.

Although there's still a little chance for HSV (winning the last match at home against Gladbach and Wolfsburg has to lose at home against already relegated Köln. But tbh I don't believe in that anymore. Anyway I'll be in the Volkspark next Saturday for the "Swan Song"

In the 2.Bundesliga it's now all clear at the top:
Welcome back to the 1.Bundesliga for two traditionrich clubs,
1.FC Nürnberg (9-times German Champion between 1920-1968 ( but only one Championship in the Bundesliga in 1968) and
Fortuna Düsseldorf ( 1-time German Champion in 1933 and 1979 in the Final of the European Cup Winners Cup).
Nürnberg was relegated in 2014 and therefore needed 4 seasons to come back. Fortuna needed even 1 season more, they were relegated in 2013.

And the big surprise all season, Holstein Kiel, has secured the #3 spot and therefore an relegation playoff against #16 of the Bundesliga (either HSV or Wolfsburg). If it is Wolfsburg then, of course, I'll keep my fingers crossed for our northern neighbours. Holstein Kiel (nicknamed "die Störche" (the storks) were German Champions in 1912 and never played in the top tier (only in the pre-Bundesliga era they played in the then top league for some time). Holstein would be the first ever club of our most northern federal state , Schleswig-Holstein, in the Bundesliga. About time then.
Kiel is more known for his famous Handball club, THW Kiel and Sailing than football nowadays. If HSV is relegated and KIel goes up there was even talked about that Kiel could maybe play then their 1.Bundesliga matches at the Volkspark because their own stadium maybe doesn't meet the necessary requirements for the 1.Bundesliga. But I am not sure how serious this talk was/is.
Anyway, it was a fairytale season for the Störche. Promotion to the 2. and maybe even 1.Bundesliga in successive seasons. I would like that (but only if they play against Wolfsburg in the relegation playoffs, of course )


And in the relegation zone we already have Kaiserslautern relegated and Fürth at #17 (but they still have a chance). But unfortunately today Eintracht Braunschweig went down to #16. That was another blow for me. It's the city of my Alma Mater and in the 80's I often watched matches at the Hamburger Strasse Stadium. I hope they can avoid #17 or #16 in the last match (away match @Holstein Kiel)

Stop crying and win every game next season in the Zwei. Relegation didn't do Stuttgart no harm. Finished 7th on a promotion season beating Bayern 4-1 in Munich. Hamburg just need to use this relegation to get rid of the dead wood and come back stronger.

It was a really bad weekend for me. Not only HSV was relegated to BuLi 2 but also Eintracht Braunschweig to Liga 3. Feels like a double nutshot for me.

Nearly everyone here is rooting for Kiel (except those few Wolfsburg fans).

edit: The DFL just granted Kiel permission, in case of a promotion, to play their home matches in their own (10.000 capacity) stadium although it momentarily doesn't meet the minimum requirements for a Bundesliga Stadium (which is 15.000 capacity with at least 8.000 seats). Last week they denied it. Timely and hopefully an extra boost for the Störche.

Normally Kiel is more deadly (or is it "deadlier"? Idk) before the goal, they scored by far the most goals in BuLi 2 and unfortunately Eintracht Braunschweig could witness that at first hand in the last match when they were hammered 2-6 after leading 1-0 and 2-1 and had to go to 3.Liga.

So, there's still a chance for them on Monday although tbh I think that the Volkswagen club will escape the relegation again.


edit: btw: Today is the DFB Pokalfinale between Bayern and Eintracht Frankfurt. Normally a Bayern win.
To reach the Europa League, Eintracht Frankfurt (8th) must win this. If Bayern wins then Stuttgart (7th in the Bundesliga) will go into the Europa League Qualifiers.
Formerly Eintracht would be qualified for the EL even if Bayern wins the Cup because they are in the Champions League next season. But the DFB changed this some time ago.
