What were you expecting? They exceeded my expectation, they lost Fabianski, Mawson, Ki, both Ayew's, Abraham, Bartley etc to name a few off the top of my head and didn't really invest to replace them.

Potter's come in and worked with what he had and improved what he had. Grimes was mediocre in a L1 side that got relegated last season and the season before that was gash at Leeds, Carter-Vickers didn't impress at Sheff Utd or Ipswich before joining Swansea and looked okay, Celina was better at Swansea than he was Ipswich, Dan James has turned into a fantastic footballer that's being linked with the biggest clubs in England etc.

I think he's done a fine job given the boardroom disruptions above his head as well. If Potter goes I can see them seriously struggling next season.

Nice post Jj. He's done immense - I dread to think what a dinosaur manager like Bruce or someone would've coped with what Potter has had to deal with. Not only has he had to replace PL first teamers from our average academy he's had to implement them in unfamiliar positions at a level they've not played at. He's a proper sadist if he stays here because we're asset strip central - Brighton have great potential too.

Yeah they stayed up, now they want to get a manager who won’t have them in a relegation battle next season so they’ve pulled the trigger nice and early to give the new man plenty of time.

Fair play to Brighton, they’ve seen the impact the likes of Hassenhuttl, Gracia and Nuno have made on their teams and they know Hughton won’t take them any higher with his style of football. Brighton are an established Prem team now with over 30k fans a week through the gate, it’s time for them to kick on now or they never will.

At Brighton, it seems to be more or less the same; they picked up just 11 points in the final 18 games and were seriously lucky that Cardiff were as poor as they were. If Brighton have any ambition beyond just scraping for survival, sacking Hughton is a smart decision.

So, whoever he joins next, be warned: he'll probably get you out of the Championship playing decent football, but will always revert to type and go ultra-defensive in the Prem.

I think he had earned the chance to take them to the next level, the second season was always going to be tougher for them. They aren't an established club yet either, and for every Nuno, Hassenhuttl and Gracia, there are just as many clubs who make a shit appointment after dispensing of a good manager.

Potter is just obviously class. The type of football his teams play on tiny budgets is fantastic - Ostersunds to the last 32 of the Europa League on a League 2 budget was an incredible achievement.

I respect Hughton but to me he is a good Championship manager who is just a bit too limited for the top flight. I don't get the fans who seem to think that teams should just take poor performances and in some cases relegation just for the sake of loyalty following past achievements.

To me this seems like Brighton taking the chance to get Potter early when he would surely be in demand in the summer, rather than a judgement on Hughton himself. I don't think he would have been sacked if a quality option hadn't already been identified.

You're chatting ignorant shite. Potter is the goods - the job he did here this season was immense - had he been allowed to play those on big appearance bonuses sooner we may have even made the play offs.

Potter did Pep this season in the cup - Pep only had appreciation for his schooling. He's an immense tactician - Brighton will do well.
