Fans sticking by the players and the club after a brutal playoff defeat in an attempt to bounce back and finally finish the job, majorly tinpot yep. I look forward to celebrating our tinpottedness when we lift the tinpot trophy in May.
The FA trophy is not that important.

May Grimsby struggle after seeing two of their best players leave?

Had we lost a few more i would have said yes, but we have hung onto 9 from 12 which i expect to be 10 from 12 with Toto Nsiala, and i think even the most optimistic amongst us would have expected to have lost a lot more.
Seems that most of us are very optimistic, i certainly am, just not as much as ClarkeyGTFC!! ;) :D

Probably do or die for you next season then? Can't see too many wanting to bum around in the Conference forever.

Most seasons in here we have a complete re-build, hence our always slow start, which is what ultimately cost us automatic promotion last year.
I think that is why we are all so positive about next season, we have kept the foundation from last season, so we should hopefully hit the ground running, and end our jail sentence in this hell-hole!! :pmsl:

If any Grimsby fans are interested (or fans of any club for that matter) I am organising a Champions League Final sweepstake on Saturdays game.

Entry cost £5 per go (and you can have as many goes as you like) and there will be a prize for the first goal scored and last goal scored. If only 1 goal is scored then the winner gets the full prize pot. Hopefully we'll get as many entries as possible and I have put a deadline for entries of 12 noon on Friday.

If we do manage to get 90 entries (don't forget that you can have as many goes at £5 each that you want) that will bring in £450. We will do 2 prizes of £115 for the first and last goal and the other £220 to be donated to the operation promotion fund. If no goal is scored in the 90 minutes then the full fund will be donated to the fund.

If by the deadline we don't have the full amount of entries I will post what the final number of entries are and the revised prizes/donation. I will then do the draw to allocate the times to each entrant. I will use a random number generator to allocate each entrant a time and the winner will be paid according to the time show on the BBC website.

It'll give the operation promotion initiative a boost and also give you a bit of extra interest watching the game on Saturday right up to the end of the game. If anyone wishes to enter then money should be sent via Paypal to lesbrechin@hotmail.com and include a note of your user name.

Any other questions then just ask.

UTM.

I take it this is now our dedicated thread for the season? :£

Strong rumours that Nsiala will be announced as signing a new deal (hopefully, and hopefully 2 years) tomorrow. If so, it will mean we have a current best starting line up of:

McKeown

Nsiala Gowling Pearson Robertson

Mackreth Clay Disley Brown Arnold

Pittman

Not bad considering we haven't signed anyone yet. Two defenders, two midfielders and three strikers will be signed I should think. Looking forward to finding out who.

That's already one of the best starting 11s in the league. Just one real job for Hurst, sign a striker and make it a good one. He does that and we win the league. Very confident of that if you all didn't already guess.

We did something similar at Barnet back in 2005, although we ended up with Anthony Charles, so be careful what you pay in for!

Is there a specific goal for this, as much about what the money can and can't be used for, not just a total to reach? Or is it simply that you are going to trust that the funds are put to good use without necessarily knowing what that use was.

The funds are just going to the playing budget, so whatever Hurst decides to use it on. Target was £20k, but we got that in one day, and are up to £35.5k, so now its just however much we get in the 8 weeks, plus the £20k and £5k extra from Mullens and Trust.

Do any Mariners supporters think that Hurst will make an offer to Ollie Palmer, especially now he's the bonus of this admirable fund?

I'd imagine that Ollie would be happy to return to Grimsby, where there seems to be a mutual admiration by both parties. I'd suspect that something like £10k would do the deal - though admittedly that's fan-thinking for you.

We've signed a couple of strikers in the last 24hrs, and 3 in a fortnight, and I think the general consensus is that it may be a case of perhaps Ollie going out to make room for another - though once again, fan-thinking.

Palmer was the catalyst for our turn around imo and I'd have him back in an instant.

It's amazing when you think about it, all this admirable fundraising could actually have gone towards a good local cause.

Instead it's going to go into the pocket of some overpaid journeyman mercenary, or possibly two at a push, playing at the lowest level of their profession.

Football eh.

We don't sign journeymen. Hurst never has and never will.

The money may mean football league, which could in force through a new stadium. Promotion is huge to this club and I genuinely believe that extra player could be the difference.

Which is exactly what every fan of pretty much every club says, every season. Truth is, especially at this level, that having a quality manager makes far more of a difference then any player will.

It will be very interesting to see who this money goes towards signing, and how much of a difference they actually make.

All 90 slots were snapped up in the Champions League Sweepstake I am running, An extra £200 already gone to the fund and another £250 going there if the game ends 0-0.

As for Chris FGR statement that all this money could be going to a more worthy cause, well I donate regularly to my 2 favourite charities thank you very much and I'm sure a fair percentage of our fans do too. Grimsby Town FC are very close to my heart as are Brain Tumour and Leukemia research so I have no second thoughts regarding donating to our fund.

It wasn't a criticism, more an observation of the behaviour and psyche of football fans.

Very few businesses will be able to get their customers/patrons to raise a load of money to bring in an extra member of staff or two on higher then average wages, who in the grand scheme of things are near the bottom of their profession ability wise, especially when said customers/patrons are already being fleeced to a certain extent.

I'm sure you all do great work for your local community and charities.
