So we face our old non league sparring partners FGR first up, these always seem to be close games which we nearly always manage to come out on top in, I can only remember ever losing to FGR twice, both 2-1 away defeats and pretty sure they have never beaten us at Blundell Park. I’m going 2-1 GTFC.

This is our second league meeting in a row, 4 months apart. Last time having romped to safety we decided to not try at all and let Grimsby win 3-0 when if we'd wanted to we'd have won easily. Probably.

Hopefully Doidge is still here by then, and our defence will tighten up now the real stuff starts. And hopefully our Spanish keeper doesn't keep trying to show off his ball skills and lose possession in dangerous areas.

Here I reluctantly must agree with you. 15 matches with two FGR wins [both at home] and ten losses [including Wembley play-off final]. Plus three draws.
That is why I love playing your team: I'm wanting to be there for (optimistically) a first convincing away win against our regular opponents.

Oh yes I think the Grimsby fans are great: passionate in support of their team but also knowledgeable and appreciative of good football from an opposing side. [Of course I would say that, they always bloody beat us. ]

I know little of Grimsby's summer transfers so cannot comment on them but the newcomers at TNL look a steep grade up from last year. Do not be surprised if FGR take all three points back to Gloucestershire.

Home win. Far from convinced FGR's midfield is even on a par with its poor self from last season.

Our betters are better, it’s just whether they’ve fully adjusted to a new system yet. FGR haven’t exactly had wholesale changes yet AFAIK? Of course, my opinion could change if Doidge goes this week. Reid is still dangerous but it seriously harms their goal threat, especially as we’re a bit more reliant on a stronger defence than attack.

Think this will be an open match. FGR will be great going forward at times this season. Doidge, Reid, Grubb and that Welsh kid is up there with the best. If they haven't sorted their defence out then they're gonna struggle on the road again though, hopefully starting tomorrow with a Gunning horror show. Score draw I reckon here.

Think this will be an open match. FGR will be great going forward at times this season. Doidge, Reid, Grubb and that Welsh kid is up there with the best. Still not really creating the chances for them I think; knocking it about too slowly, but if it clicks maybe.

Given I'm currently working Saturday nights gonna have to give this a miss, which I'm actually gutted about even though I've never seen us get anything up there.

Should be a decent game, probably a lot of passing it around on the deck from both sides, what with Jolley's modern continental coaching technique and Cooper's love of tiki taka.

Quite pleased with the look of our line up and bench too, on paper. See if they've actually worked out how to play together in pre-season.

Our fans just need a reality check, pre season optimism will soon disappear. Be good to challenge near the top, but we need to be realistic and after last season, mid table nobodies should be viewed as a success and something to build on.
Appointing Slade set the club back a couple seasons, now to get back on track starting today.

Tbf, Bob and Billy always make it sound worse/panicked. Been to games where we've been fairly comfortable and talked to people listening and they've thought we'd been all over the place.

Talked to someone at the game who says we're unlucky to be behind.

True about those two but have offered the odd heartstopper every twenty minutes it seems. Definitely sounded like we were getting in to it just before the pen and are working our way back in now but maybe not quite sharp enough.

FGR keeper very good too, but still same old farting around with the centre backs nearly letting us in again a couple of times.
Can see this being 2-1 or 2-2.
