FFS 209 posts on a Grimsby v Mansfield match thread.

Only about 20 posts actually relevant!
To be honest the match can be summed up in one post.

Two rubbish teams, playing rubbish football, in a rubbish league with a poxy goal to win it.

Amazing feeling to win it in the last minute, that's what football is all about. Let's be honest though, the Stags performance wasn't great again and if we hadn't have sneaked that winner Dempster might have been out of a job now.

Enjoyed the day out. People moan that Grimsby is a dump, I've always got on with the locals there. Our bus got took to a pub called the Market Tavern this year. Had a pint and a game of pool with a few Grimsby lads who were spot on.

Grimsby and it's supporters usually only get 'bad press', so thank you for posting this; we are not all 'knuckle draggers'.

Yeah, if the boot had been on the other foot and we'd won like that at Field Mill, then that's one of the games that make all this supporting a lower league club nonsense worth it. And glad to hear that you didn't encounter our minority of knuckledraggers on the day.

I’ve lived here for 40 years and have never heard of the Market Tavern, there used to be a Market Hotel which is now a Tesco’s.
Where about was it? :dk:

It's the one in Cleethorpes Market Place, used to be called Schuberts then The Fiddler.

I remember having a smoke outside and it was straight across from William Hill and Ladbrokes was to my left. There were two sides to the pub, small side with pool table and then the big side doing food and big screens with the rugby on. Not a bad pub!

It's been The Market Tavern for at least a couple of years now I reckon.

Edit. Just done a google search and there was an article in the Grimsby Telegraph dated 4th July 2017 after it had just re-opened.

It's diagonal across the square from Steels isn't it?

Bit rough for me, although I've never actually been in there; whatever it's name has been.

we all have them unfortunately and it lets 99% of fans down. I poke fun at Grimsby as it’s a bit of banter and a laugh and whatever, that’s all it is.

When there’s trouble like the last time we KO’d at 3 they’re the fans that let both down, and why everyone suffers as a consequence.

As conker or SOC mentioned should meet for a pint have a laugh and enjoy the game (that’s the hard part) maybe we could even invite magpie along to enjoy some league football?

Awwww. Sounds like a plan Adam.

In the Pre match pub both sets of fans can regale all those memories , fun time and tragic moments from their past non league experiences .

As you know us Notts fans are very new to it so it would be great to hear all the stories from your past NL adventures

He’s probably already got a 250 metre restraining order on his local educational establishments anyway.

I know this is ridiculously off topic but are Grimsby getting a new stadium? Seem to remember something about it.

at least if he (or she) goes to meadow lane there won’t be a banning order on league football.

Notts county or belper town to be in the same round as morecambe? Wow

We've been having a new stadium for about 20 years now; doubt it will happen in my lifetime. Every time we get close to some thing actually happening it all falls apart, be it money, location or 'the council', usually all three!

Oh yeah you did (again!), look ^^^^^^^^

It's the shame the meet up can't happen in Cleethorpes, this Market Tavern sounds a fantastic place for a pre match pint. Now we know it's exact location and all it's previous names, riveting.

Although from South West London it's a long way to go for a few pints of beer, some fascinating stories about both clubs time in the conference and then a L2 match. Seen more than my fair share of them already

Just fighting for the truth and exposing hypocrisy and absurdity on the forum BH.

This thread has been an absolute goldmine, almost too much

The best one was when it was the voles that live in the fields near Great Coates that stopped it.
