Absolutely ridiculous decision. Sorry to any Cov fans missing out.

I feel sorry for the Cov fans that would have travelled but now won't, especially with no reason given.

At the same time, I'm surprised any Cov fans have left it to POTG. I got the impression that Cov fans roundly thought they would sell out for this one before tickets went on sale and I don't know if it's just Town fans, but if there's any sniff of a potential sell-out, they're usually snapped up quickly.

Perhaps they were anticipating more than the 500 pay on the gate fans, so to negate this they say no pay on the gate, but I suspect if some turn up without a ticket they will let them in rather than them causing trouble outside ground and going in home end.

A lot will have been planning to pay on the day because of the additional costs when buying online through ticketmaster, especially if you need the tickets posting. Disappointing decision from the police but can only guess it's because of the trouble we caused at games such as Sheff Utd and Northampton in protests against SISU last season and maybe they are worried of a repeat. The main problem being the late notice so those planning to buy on the day wouldn't have known until it was too late.

This is the only explanation I can think of; I'm not saying a logical one, because this defies logic - we are not going to sell any more tickets in case some turn up on the day without tickets, (thereby making it more likely that some will turn up without tickets). The press release implies GTFC were consulted or even in on it, which is also bizarre - why turn down the hard cash from selling another 600 tickets?

Any road up there'll be at least one Cov fan in the Upper Youngs because he's going with me...

I think if Coventry fans turn up without tickets they will just let them pay on the day anyway, pretty sure similar must've happened last week at Chesterfield as our twitter stated Friday at close of play that 2383 had been sold with no pay on the day yet it was announced as 2650 at the match.

Willis replaces Hyam but we're otherwise unchanged. Andreu makes the bench. Good XI imo.

Due to the confusion no doubt loads haven't travelled just in case they can't get in

Sounds like Dembele is tearing another team apart again.

One decent chance for each side.

Jodi Jones and Dembele the only bright spots of a poor game.

Not the most exciting game but not the worst either. Nothing too clear cut for either side but I think Coventry can say they were the better side first half. Jodi Jones is a great player and the best on the pitch for me but our defence is coping well. Nothing much up front for us.

Bit of a controversial goal but I think the ref made the right decision. Ball was stationary and ref had signalled to take the kick from what I saw so Clarke has no complaints with that. Only thing that may influence it is that McNulty probably wasn't 10 yards but don't know how much of a case Grimsby have there.

Town need to have a little more discipline. The first Coventry goal was a bummer but you can't blame the Coventry lad. We need to stop being sloppy. Two red cards in two games - that's not gonna help. I thought we looked good shape wise for the first twenty minutes - then my rip off streaming died - maybe a godsend.

Managed to watch a bit of it on a stream but it was quite far behind. Think we deserved the three points but the game was relatively even. Dembele for Grimsby looks a real talent.

Calamity Clarke dropped a clanger for the first goal whatever way you look at it.

Would have expected better from an experienced head

Will have to see the first goal again but apparently the ref was telling him to go back? So he's kicked it back to Macca and their lad nicks it and scored. I had a shit view this game but the goal aside, the officials were horrific and made a number of terrible decisions. We didn't respond to the first goal though and we had a very poor second half so we can't complain. They were decent, not on the level of Portsmouth or Doncaster last season but it's early days and if they keep improving I think they'll be top 3. We need an actual good target man desperately if we're to keep playing 1 up front. Thank god Berrett is suspended.

You can't really tell on video whether the ref had told him to go back but just going from the visuals you can 100% see why it has stood.

Yep when I saw it back on Twitter it was definitely our fault for switching off but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the referee lost grip of the situation. Frustrating way for us to throw the game away.

Paul never go on Cov's twitter feed, its full of spotty teenagers who haven't a brain cell between them. They even embarrass us with the garbage they spout.
Believe me it's a handful,at most, of bedroom based hormonal adolescents who have nothing better to do than sit on their screens and spout shite.
The majority of Cov fans know perfectly well where we are at and as officially the lest successful club in the last 47 years we totally know we are very capable of going on a 44 game losing streak.
Best to ignore them, Cov fans are a good bunch on the whole with obviously a sense of humour proven by supporting this nutcase of a club

Thought for the first 50 we were a bit too shy and struggled to keep the ball down. After that though we started to play it about. Can only see this team improving as they get to know each other better.

Jones could absolutely terrorise this league. Looked so good again. Refreshing to see him confident and running at teams.

Andreu looked miles ahead of everyone on the pitch when he came, touch of class. Excited to see more of him in the weeks to come.

Enjoyed that. Dominated after the 40th minute really. Two games in and still 0 shots on target against us.

This is the worst Grimsby Town side Garry Hill has ever seen at Blundell Park.

I've no complaints despite the farcical first goal. Cov dominant in the second half and a few of our players looked off the pace and probably just not good enough, particularly the former York City midfield. Thankfully, we have better quality to return - McAllister, Clements, Osborne (although probably out to Christmas). I thought Sam Jones did ok but would rather see him central. Dembele just didn't get the good service to feet in space that JJones did for Cov. Any watching League 2 scouts will see how they they can neutralise him if we try just lump the ball into the channels for him to try run onto like yesterday

Apparently, our transfer business is not yet done, I think we need to ship out as well in. Any takers for the former York City midfield pair? Maybe York City, maybe they are the right level for these two now...(bit harsh that perhaps)...

What a joke this statement is and still no actual reason why. A 20% reduction in home capacity too???

Addendum to the Safety Certificate issued by North East Lincolnshire Council to Grimsby Town Football Club.

The following temporary condition is being applied by the Council in respect of the football match scheduled to take place at Blundell Park on Saturday 12th August 2017 between Grimsby Town FC and Coventry City FC.

“The Council supports the fixture taking place under the stewardship of the Club subject to the following condition:

As a condition of the safety certificate the capacity for this fixture be reduced through no further sales of tickets to away fans (Coventry) with immediate effect and a 20% reduction in capacity for home fans.”

What the feck is going on? The council have done nothing to support the development of a new stadium, are years behind other clubs, and suffering for it with match day revenue, and then start doing stuff like this. Are they going to do this for the Lincoln game in six weeks. Someone should ask the question now.

Dunno if this is anything to do with this, but section 7.2 in the document linked above (sorry can't copy and paste for some reason) seems to suggest that one reason they can do this is if they think the organisation running a sporting event aren't capable of doing so safely.

As annoying as that would be, it would be a little bit funny if for the first time in the last 10 seasons that Lincoln can sell out, they end up getting capped at 1300!
