The only criticism of the change was it was pretty late in the first half and we could easily have been several down by then. Stech looked a little fragile under the aerial precence of Stockley who was very useful. Once the change was made though we were ruthless. Great to see Cornick get his first. He's gonna be some player. Isaac Who?

Well bugger me. What do you say about that. Simple unbelievable statement of intent.

Exeter started well... really well. They started at a relentless pace. They were obviously a confident side and with only the wide-ish three in the middle, they were offered plenty of space. Exeter could've been out of sight by half time. But Luton were the more experienced, more savvy and upped the ante at the right times.

Second half, Jones addressed this glaring hole and the football changed for the better. Luton blew Exeter away in the first 15 minutes of that half. They, like Stevenage, just couldn't live with the pace of Cornick who then left holes for Collins and Hylton. Potts made it 2-1, as Exeter couldn't defend a set piece; Danny Hylton made it 3-1 from an excellent run and then Cornick himself made it 4 with a clever header from good interplay on the left.

Pleased Cornick finally got the goal he has been threatening for quite a few games now. Genuinely think the kids absolute quality, hopefully that one gives him the confidence to get more as he’s got himself in good positions in just about every game, just the finish let him down.

That attacking quartet of him, Hylton, Collins and Berry really could be something else

Taught a lesson here. Didn't take our chances. Luton changed to a back three and took us apart .

We haven't performed against the top sides. Starting to think we are an average side.

Luton have some very good players for League Two. But the tactical switch won them the game

Unusually comprehensive highlights package from Sky tonight, wish they did this every week instead of just the goals:
http://www.skysports.com/watch/vide...etitions/league-two/11085960/exeter-1-4-luton

Three things jump out at me from that:

- Cornick's assist for the first is pure class
- the Exeter player clearing his team-mate's shot off the line is LOL
- Danny Hylton's first touch in the build-up to our fourth goal is magical

Just gonna sit and stare at the league table for a while now. Lovely.

Denzel. Prob hurts a lot now but in the light of day there was a lot og positive for you to take away from this and even in the second half you werent horrible - we were just really really good. First half you took us apart , we rode it out but our heads could have dropped if one or two had gone in. You're a very decent side - the best we've played so far - and with respect, for the size of the club, the budget you have, the quality players you lose year in year out - you should be proud. You can easily pick off a top 3 spot this season looking at the table, results and other sides. You just ran into a 15 min purple patch and then we just kinda coasted. Season was never over for the loser.

Agree 100%. Clearly a team that gives their all. Perhaps lacking the experience Luton have in the right areas.

It’s a team Exeter fans should be proud of.

How we lost that, I'm not entirely sure.

Battered Luton first half, and should have scored 4/5.. Credit to Luton though, they done in the second half exactly what we done in the 1st. Only difference being they took their chances, we didn't. LTFC should walk this league, have it wrapped up by end of March.

Just hope we forget about it, and move on to Saturday. Could really do with a win. Hopefully 'Tis makes a few changes. I'd take out Reid, Tilson & James. Sooner JMT is back, the better.

Hope that Harley and Boateng are back soon too. Macca needs more game time.. Him and Reid were unplayable when together. And I wonder if we'll see Brunt again this side of Easter.

Nice post.

I tend to agree. We have enough quality in the squad still to be up there come April/ May and last night we just came up against a team that’s clinical and will surely be promoted this season. Hats off to Jones for switching tactics, he got that spot on and with the likes of Hylton, Collins, Berry, Cornick etc etc they’re always going to be a threat.

Our season won’t be defined by last nights game. When we won promotion from L2 in 2009 we lost 6-1 at home to Chesterfield around this point of the season, so it just shows that things can go wrong but it’s how you responds.

Big game Saturday now. We need to respond well and get a result. Vale will be tough oppo as they seem to be doing well under Aspin...If we can get a win then we could be back to the top of the league and all will be rosy. A long way to go.

Luton are like when you play ultimate team and you end up playing against a team of legends. Essentially a cheat team at this level

ok..lets play..."you're the gaffer".......
do you..a.....keep a winning team, together, on the pitch
b....consider your squad good enough to rotate due to the opposition's recent form/ performances
c..keep an eye on the oncoming fa cup considering whether or not its a priority??

Stays the same. Cup games wholesale changes. If McCormack was playing I'd rotate him in and out. Lee and Justin deserve more game time but the players with the shirts at the moment are on fire. So keep thrm as subs with twenty thirty minutes game time and do same with one other sub rotating through the bench.

Still buzzing after that result. Not so much the scoreline which may have flattered us bearing in mind Exeters first half performance. It was the manner in which we changed tactics and put the game to bed with a relentless attacking display for that short period in the second half. After that it was job done and we could relax. Exeter just couldn't come back from that. Credit to NJ for seeing the problem in our defence and dealing with it.
Don't think I've have witnessed such a positive feeling around the club for a long time. This could well be our year, although we know what can happen in football. If we continue to perform at this level we know clubs from higher leagues will start sniffing around.
NJ just hasn't built a team he's built a squad who want to play for him and eachother. If we have a player out we bring in a quality replacement. The strenght in depth is impressive to say the least.
Crawley away and then a sell out crowd for our home game v Coventry. It will be interesting to see what tactics they use to stop our style of play. Whatever they choose NJ is quickly showing that he can adapt. An improvement he has made this season.

Somewhat disappointingly this angle shows that the Exeter shot that the Exeter player apparently cleared off the line was actually going well wide, which lessens the humour somewhat (5:40 in):

I love the intimacy and artiness of that recap clip. Very impressive piece of work as an alternative to the standard highlights clip. Funny how the angle changes so much. As well as the supposed clearance I had no idea Hyltons goal took such a big deflection.

"To add insult to injury, I didn’t much care for the way Luton went about things. Take it from me, they’re a cocky bunch who, rather than let their football do the talking, did everything they could to wind us up. I guess they might argue the end justified the means, but it’s not the way we like to play the game and, truth be told, I’d love to see them come unstuck!"

That's Dean Moxey quoted above - anyone care to hazard a guess as to which Luton player he might be referring to there?! :bg::bg::bg:

Funnily, I don't think he's actually on about Hylton, but more Berry. From what I could see, it was LB who was always trying to wind up the fans and players all night long.
