Definitely going to be some ‘club statements’ moaning at the money pretty soon.

Surely the money is to cover wages. In which case as every club in each division is (supposedly) paying the same, the payout will be the same.

Why should owners at some clubs get more than others when their wages are the same.
Not really because although wages are calculated consistently i.e. anyone under contract is calculated at the average, wages will still be all over the place for another two or three years yet.

It shouldn't be about just paying the wages, that wouldn't be fair. It should be based on lost gate revenue and if a Club relies heavily on someone putting money in to meet wage commitments beyond that then that's their problem. This isn't and shouldn't be be used bail out the ones throwing silly money around.

I still don’t see how you can have an equitable distribution based on attendances. Sunderland @ 30,000 would get how much compared to, say, Burton @ 4,000. 7 times as much? That’s ridiculous.

The only way based on attendances would be to divide the £50m by the average number of fans of the 48 clubs and multiply by their attendance average.

As a very rough guide approx 5 million fans attended leagues 1 and 2 last season, so divide that between the £50m and you get a tenner per fan. Sunderland had 572,000 fans so would get £5.7m and Accrington would get about £480,000.

However it ends up being distributed, what checks and balances would be put in place to prevent this money disappearing into the ass pockets of the less than honest owners.

The Premier League have said all along that any bail out will be to cover the lost revenues due to the pandemic. This means lost gate revenues.
They do not want the money to cover losses due to badly run clubs. I get that.
If a club has been running with wages at an unsustainable level and has been covered by the owner or not paying other bills that is their problem and one of their own making.
Any bail out will, and should be, to cover lost gate revenues.

Have we not already refused help from the Premier League. Anyone who thinks the government is going to step in is deluded. Better run industries than football have been allowed to die. As have Bury and Macclesfield.
I said in a early post that salaries should be capped at 1k in lge 2.

I don’t know how this gets solved without the money being used for less than intended purposes. Our own chairman hasn’t paid himself for a while (he was in favour of the Man Utd/Liverpool obscenity too).

A bail out based on last seasons tax returns from actual ticket sales maybe.

I will be intrerested to know if any part of that £50 million is still sidelined as loans as the Premier league were insisting, or whether the Parliamentary Committee banged the bodies heads together hard enough and turned it all into a grant given the pressure they put on to find agreement. That was one sticking point..

Why not? Salaries aren't the same across the division. Even in two or three years when old contracts end, not every L1 Club will be paying £2.5m a year because of either relegation from the Championship or because the Club can't afford that salary bill anyway.

Your higher attended Club's shouldn't be penalised for just that. This money is to cover loss gate receipts, that's what it says. Will it be gate receipts in full? I'm not so sure there's enough for that (I also don't think it's gift either, part will have to be repaid I bet), so if it doesn't cover full gate receipts for all of L1 and L2 then it needs to cover the same % for everyone to make it fair and consistent.

Sunderland shouldn't get less of their gate receipts covered just because Burton get less. That's an actual unfair and ridiculous proposal.

I'm assuming it'll also take into account the amount of season ticket holders and those who haven't asked for their money back.

As ever, the devil is in the detail. No doubt we'll hear something on that over the coming days.

Coincidentally, I came across this in an article today.

A lot of regular ST holders didn’t get one this year, due to it being unlikely to ever attend a game.

This is what's happened in the NL after the funds were allocated in a way rather than loss of gate receipts. Lesser supported Club's end up in better financial shape. Boreham Wood ended up getting around £120 per absent fan based on their attendances if I remember correctly and Notts County about £16 per fan but the handouts didn't cover County's gate receipts, but covered BW's multiple times.
