When they say they don't like Alan Partridge because they think he's a twat.

I can't resist it I'm afraid, people who don't understand the difference between the words of and have.

I don't agree.

I understand that it's capable of being very destructive, but the % of alcohol drinkers that actually get into a position whereby it negatively affects their lives.....compared to Class A drugs such as Crack, Heroin, etc......put's them in totally different Leagues.

What are you basing these assertions on?

1)People who say to someone "Don't be ridiculous" just because they don't agree/understand the other person's way of thinking.

2) Guys who listen to metal.

3) Guys who contradict themselves in the same post

What are you basing these assertions on?

Knowing dozens of alcohol drinkers that enjoy a pint of a weekend, and don't beg borrow & steal in order to do so.

I'm not aware of any smackhead that enjoys the comforts of a 'normal' life, whilst mixing in the recreational use of Heroin or Crack.

That graph is all well & good but, what level of alcohol use are we talking about? A pint in the pub after work, or a ltr of Vodka every day, 7 days per week?

With Heroin, you can't simply use it on a Monday, and put your needle away 'til the weekend. You NEED your next fix, within a matter of hours. Usually resorting in theft, robbery etc in order to fulfil that need.

Unless of course, you're a millionaire. In which case you'd probably be already dead from an overdose anyway.

Alcohol is more readily available so the numbers will be skewed in its disfavour.

If they are good and have genuine talent I'd say no, but if they are just looking to get on the telly then they are even worse.

I think the latter part of your post perfectly describes this -

Crack and Heroin can't be used moderately without being instantly addicted, and you turning into the devil. .

You know what's more powerful than crack and heroin? Bullshit propaganda.

Around 30% of heroin users become addicted to some degree. And there are plenty of "functioning addicts" (I don't like that term, personally) holding down full time jobs and living otherwise normal lives. Many of them with high ranking jobs and an excellent education. It's not uncommon for people to use heroin long term without "turning in to the devil" or experiencing the health problems we associate with the drug.

I can tell from your use of the term "smackheads" that you are coming from a biased and judgemental point of view.

I know and have worked with lots of people that use crack and heroin on a irregular basis just in the same way people use drink. I've also seen the other side where they use flat out and steal to fund their habit but I've seen pleanty of people with drink problems do that to.

Heroin, Crack, Alcohol and Tobacco can all be shit drugs that ruin life, people like you that come across like you're somehow better becuase you choose to get high in a different way are simply bizzare.

Heroin is a lot more dangerous because it is illegal, just like Alcohol was when it was illegal.

I'm not sure what you mean. Obviously the danger is relative to the usage. The people doing the study obviously don't grab a handful of people doing x amount of whatever and then try to extrapolate from that, they take the figures of deaths, injuries, disease, social issues etc. related to each drug, spread them across the number of users, then compare averages per 10,000 users or whatever. I don't think alcohol is worse than heroin personally, but I do think it's negative effects are massively understated while the dangers of other hard drugs are blown way out of proportion. Probably because we've just accepted that the never ending slew of drunk driving deaths and street brawls on a Saturday night are just part of life, and because the health concerns related to booze sneak up on you.

Brace yourself for a media outrage though if somebody knocks someone over whilst under the influence of any illegal drug. Selective.
