He's made the same decision as Ryan Lowe, to jump ship whilst his stock is at its highest and only likely to drop from here on in. Also like Lowe, there's the added bonus of no longer having to work at a location in the middle of nowhere.

Lowe would never have left the North had circumstances been different. It shouldn’t have been any surprise that as soon as one came in for him in a higher division he’d be off.

They did at first, no idea if it stayed that way all the way through. Probably though.

So manager gone, 3 of our best players out of contract and likely to leave and the 12 remaining players part of a squad that was 20th in the league 2 form table over the last third of the season.

Couple that with our top scorer being out long term with an acl and whoever the new manager is will have a busy summer I reckon. Early odds have Paul Tisdale and Graham Coughlan as top two favourites.
He was found wanting with us at league one level.

He had all of his strikers injured and couldn’t pick up from that. I still feel that he was a bit hard done by with injuries but when you mix that with his personality and some of the decision making at the time it was the right call to part company.

Injuries likely down to him and the staff he employed. He's had the same poor excuses everywhere.

Matt Taylor now 9/2 favourite for the job at ours and local journo has confirmed he’s one “under consideration”.

Boo.

Inevitable that he’d get linked and it’s only a matter of time that a bigger club will make a move for him. If that happens, we wouldn’t and can’t stand in his way. Hopefully you’ll look elsewhere!

I wouldn’t worry too much just yet, we’re bit of a mess at the moment so he’s probably better off where he is.

Also I don’t really know what “under consideration” means, is he even aware of that?

Absolutely delighted to see Scott Brown appointed as the new head coach at Fleetwood. Andy Pilley has a ( good ) track record of bringing through new unproven managers
Back in the non league days Tony Greenwood did a first class job and saw the club through a number of promotions. Micky Mellon followed up and got us in the EFL. Ditto Graham Alexander who in his 1st season at the club secured something like a 10th place finish. Uwe Rossler had a fantastic 1st season and then went off the boil. Ok we've had disappointments, 'Elvis Pressley ' did nothing and neither did Simon Grayson
We now have a very scottish feel at the club, Stephen Crainey, Barry Nicholson and Jordan Rossiter ( both ex Rangers ) and my missus who regularly tells me she is from the Kingdom of Fife.

Got to say theres something to look forward to next season, mind you thats not hard seeing as we saw a paltry 6 home wins all last year !!

I assume, your board has a list of possible targets and he may be one of them, so perhaps that’s where the “under considered” bit comes from. He’s not been asked in the press about any potential interest as far as I know.

His wife is expecting a baby too, so perhaps they will be more keen to stay in the south west from a support network point of view. On the flip side, babies are bloody expensive to provide for, so a big pay rise would probably be welcomed

It’s weird. Get promoted and players and managers get poached as, understandably, they want more money and it could be their only chance before they’re found out not to be of L1 quality. Miss out on promotion and the same thing happens.

Perhaps the playoffs is the best route then? That way your players and manager are still focused on football and by the time the playoffs are over (5 June for the National League!) lots of vacancies are already filled.

You might be on to something there! Although, if anything is happening regarding managers/players I’m sure it’s all done beforehand in secret until the time is right.

Know very little about Mark Kennedy tbh. Ten years working his way up from academy coaching to assistant manager so this is the next logical step I suppose (had a 10 game or so spell at Macclesfield manager when they had no money and were on their way to plummeting down the leagues before Covid struck).

It was pretty clear three years ago what was happening at the Club but even clearer now that we're going down a Brentford type route. The days of appointing a manager in the old sense of the word at LN5 is gone for the time being, and we've opted to have people in situ to minimise upheaval if a Head Coach leaves so they'll be little change in the backroom staff. Our Academy coach doubled up as Gainsborough Trinity's manager and he's left that position to be more involved with us on a first team level.

Comes across well in his interview at the very least and seems pleased to be here and given the opportunity, which wasn't something you always felt from Appleton. At times he gave off the vibe we were lucky to have him.

Interesting times really. Not sure whether I find the unknown of Kennedy exciting or unnerving in all honesty!

EDIT - Although the Head Coach route is a way that quite a few are doing now so we're not on our own in that respect.

When Mark Kennedy was at Macclesfield a few seasons back, they came to our place and about 15mins into the game the ball went out for a throw to ourselves and Kennedy caught the ball.

It was 0-0 and 15mins into the game, nothing has happened, most people would just give us the ball back to take the throw. Instead Kennedy caught the ball and booted it down the touchline, much to everyones dismay - It wasn't even as if his team wasn't setup or not ready either/on the back foot either. The ref had a word with him. It was just so bizarre and odd!

What does Devon Lad think? No doubt players to follow.

Regarding players leaving, we’re at least in a good position in that we don’t have any first teamers who are out of contract, so we’d be able to demand a big fee if anyone wanted to move on.

That’s when things start falling apart, though. More often than not replacements aren’t quite as good, no way of knowing if the new group will gel, maybe the new manager doesn’t fancy some of the existing players. It does take off some of the gloss of being promoted when, within weeks, people are being poached.

Yes agreed. If Taylor stays I’m pretty confident we’ll comfortably stay up next season. However, once he goes, we may end up finding it hard to carry on the momentum. Time will tell though and we’ll have to plan for the next manager at some point soon as it’s inevitable he’ll be in demand if he keeps performing as he is.

That’s why he has to go now. Stay with you and have a meh season and his stock falls, go now and he’ll command a decent wage increase for 3 years. No brainer. It’s the life of us bottom feeders.
