Within hours of confirming promotion there is speculation that our manager is being lined up to replace Roy Hodgson at Watford...I know that the press make up rubbish to fill their pages and sell newspapers...but I feel this would be a bit of a big jump too early, but hey, what do I know?

Football League World is a load of cack, they spam social media pages for clicks. They're worse than the likes of the Bristol Post or Gloucestershire Echo, and that's saying something.

Our odds have been flitting between Ian Burchnall (Notts County), Ian Foster (England U19's) and Mark Kennedy (Birmingham City assistant or coach, can't remember which) but Michael Carrick has gone from 33/1 to evens in the last hour.

I don't take too much notice of the odds because it doesn't take too much money to fluctuate the market but that kinda movement, so quickly is unusual.
Not a chance!

Oh dear - wouldn’t be surprised if we were doing it the dodgy way !

You are according to Dale Vince on Sky Sports just now. Confirmed Edwards is ‘no longer our manager’ that he feels let down and Watford encouraged him to keep it quiet.

Generally we’ve never had a problem letting people go to bigger clubs, just would have preferred it to be done in the right way.

All the best to him in any case, he’s done a very good job.

There's been a lot more of the 'young promising managers jumping ship unexpectedly and pissing off their original club' trend this season than I can ever remember. Russell Martin, Ryan Lowe, Rob Edwards... maybe it's time to stop employing young coaches with first names beginning with R.

Get ones with M - Mark Bonner and Mickey Duff are amazingly loyal!

I don't see Duff leaving us for another League 1 team - in fact I don't see him leaving us just for any old Championship team either.

I expect him to go to a club that is being well run and not a hire and fire type. I honestly think he would have turned Watford down given their history of treating managers.

A massive part of me thinks he's holding out for Burnley if they go down.

Is Rob Edwards good enough for the jump? FGR seemed to stumble over the line, so was it a good full season, or two thirds of one?

Seems a weird decision from Watford. Might work out but I'm not sure where their thinking has come from.

Meanwhile, in our manager search, there's literally nothing coming from the Club (as you'd expect), or even the radio/paper - not even gossiping on any of it.

Carrick, Kennedy and Foster the three left standing with the bookies, everyone else has drifted out.

He's made the same decision as Ryan Lowe, to jump ship whilst his stock is at its highest and only likely to drop from here on in. Also like Lowe, there's the added bonus of no longer having to work at a location in the middle of nowhere.

Why tf would he turn down Watford when he's on peanuts at Cheltenham? It's a massive payday if you're sacked as a manager. Do you want me to tell you how much Mourinho has made on being sacked?!

Thinking a manager would stay at a tin pot L1/L2 side (yes us included) for a team just relegated from the PL with parachute payments and money to live off for the rest of your life is a no brainer and you'd be an absolute cockwomble if you didn't leave. Getting sacked after 8 games or whatever? Who cares, they still get paid for it!

They’ve probably run out of people who they haven’t already employed and then sacked at some point.

We won 4 out of our last 16 games, 2 of which were at home to Oldham and Scunthorpe. During that time he kept exactly the same formation and pretty much the same team and didn’t really seem to know how to get us going again.

Can’t complain about him going there, just a bit of honesty might have been nice but there you go. I’ll still give him a clap if he ever comes up against us in the future.

Liam Manning is favourite for the QPR job.

One normal summer at MK1 would be lovely but it doesn't look like that's happening. I guess at least if it happens again, it's not the day after our first game of the season.

It's almost like job security, having a settled family, and not having to work at all (let alone depend on a big payday from being sacked) have no merits at all these days.

Duff is ambitious, he's never made any secret of that fact. But with that ambition comes learning from his previous managers. Steve Cotterill nearly fucked his career by moving too quickly and not doing his due dilligence when moving from Stoke to Sunderland. Cotterill is Duff's biggest mentor and Duff knows exactly what he wants. Security is paramount to him - he knows he'll never be sacked at Cheltenham now so he has plenty of time to pick the job he wants.

Still the middle of nowhere in regards to this country. Granted I may be doing the South West a disservice. But I do think clubs in/around London, the North West or the Midlands are a far superior draw for footballing staff solely in terms of location, especially those with families.

FGR train in Chippenham (or they did until recently), not quite the middle of nowhere, but not far from it.

Yeah still in Chippenham. The aim is to build a training ground at junction 13 of the M5, work meant to be starting soon.

There is no job security in football, if he was to lose the first 15 in a row next season for you I'm sure he'd be shown the door. That's not the point, though. Being on a paper round for 50 years is certainly less security for you and your family than getting a guaranteed 3 or so year contract on life changing money he could probably retire on, with the added bonus that if he's sacked he could get it all up front or still guaranteed those payments without working. He could easily have a settled family in London for the rest of his life on the money he'll be on now for the rest of his life. It's like being offered to win the lottery and turning it down. You'd have to be an utter idiot not to leave a basket case club like you, FGR or us to go to a team like Watford (with their parachute money as well). In no other job/career in the world would you not take the opportunity up. Our Matt Taylor would take it, and so would your manager. It's not goin and upping sticks for a little more money, it's mega money in comparison.

So manager gone, 3 of our best players out of contract and likely to leave and the 12 remaining players part of a squad that was 20th in the league 2 form table over the last third of the season.

Couple that with our top scorer being out long term with an acl and whoever the new manager is will have a busy summer I reckon. Early odds have Paul Tisdale and Graham Coughlan as top two favourites.

Preparation has already started for the training ground, with work by an archaelogical group due to a discovery of remains on site.

Didn't you hear that the Roman era had ended at Chelsea but begun at Forest Green!

Yeah I knew about the dig, found 11 skeletons didn’t they?

Not sure any actual building work has started though?

I quite agree as we had this with Silva and Everton but we seem to be a right mess PR wise for now .

Its been said the club want a longer term approach and younger squad etc .

But then if we lose a few early games we all know what will happen !
