He didn't sign Loft in his defence, although he's probably responsible for a couple of the other duffers in the squad.

The guy who signed Loft was sacked ("mutual agreement") the other day.

Well too little too late for our survival, but gives us plenty of time to plan for league two next year, which is probably much more important in the long run. We should be reasonably competitive in financial terms in league two, so that gives fans something to hang onto, as long as we don’t do a Carlisle !! Monk looked totally defeated in the pre-Exeter presser and the performance on Sat sounded like it mirrored that ( I wasn’t at the game just followed on the radio). With the DOF gone as well it’s going to be an interesting few weeks to be sure. The only thing that matters on the pitch is that we manage to bring Pish down with us, and give some of the youngsters a run out to aid their development in a less pressured atmosphere.
This is of course the tiniest possibility we might go on a long unbeaten run and stay up, but that’s just the post Monk euphoria speaking.

Assumed there'd been some news from Field Mill when I saw this thread had become active this afternoon.

Motherwell have appointed former Austria Vienna boss Michael Wimmer as their new manager.

Bristol Rovers had been linked with Wimmer in December but the League One club were reportedly unable to secure a work permit. Motherwell say a work permit has been agreed for their new manager.

Guessing the process is a bit more relaxed up there. Happy with the one we ended up with tbh as there is a clear improvement already

Sacking Monk now does seem very 'it gives us some time to plan for L2', although 8(?) points adrift isn't insurmountable at this point if there's a bit of a bounce.

Cambridge have Crawley, Stevenage, Wigan, Blackpool, Posh, Barnsley, Northampton in March and that's a huge month. A stinking April, Shrewsbury and Burton aside.

Luke Williams now added to the list of available candidates for Cambridge to choose from...think he's one of those tippy-tappy managers though, it's great if you can afford the players to pull that style off, but if not...

They would have to improve their pitch first, it did seem a bit bobbly all over when we played there, so much so Loft almost controlled the ball once

It’s the most frustrating thing when it’s inevitable any good manager will get poached by the bigger clubs. Hope he stays with you till the end of the season as you could genuinely push the top spots.

Just seen how Bloomfield is getting on with the Straw Boaters, bloody hell that was short sighted of him. Orient might not swap places with Blackburn this summer but I'd still recommend staying on to see what this new investment offers.

There’s all sorts of speculation from our end on what happened but the general consensus is that he felt he was not being fully supported, and wanted more control over transfer policy.

It certainly wouldn’t have made sense to me to change at a point where he was doing so well other than if there was major friction behind the scenes.

I hope he lands on his feet (if not at Lu’un then elsewhere), I do have faith in him but he might have to take one step back to go forwards, if he gets canned from the Hatters, not sure how long the current win rate will be tolerated.

Never heard of anything like tbh!

Will it work? I've no idea, am I here for it? You know what....

Wow. I can only assume that CUFC has signed a late-breaking contract for All Or Nothing: The Run-In? Looking forward to the show.
Me too. Surprised Bonz has gone for the DoF role at this stage, and surprised Harris has been entertained as an option after the manner of his departure....but could it work?

We joked about it on the basis that it wasn't realistic, yet here we are.

Mark still gives me a Bonner.

I’m speechless, going to need half a bottle of gin and some late night hours on the sofa to work this one out. The two words that come to mind, with normal word definitions, are; Brave or Stupid, and only time will tell!

What was the manner of his leaving?

Got the call from Millwall, accepted the job but then took the team for the next match a few days later, despite already being off, was incredibly rude to a reporter (big Cambridge fan) and then didn't make any reference to us whatsoever.

It was just completely classless, if he'd said "it's Millwall, thanks for the opportunity but you know I can't say no" then it would have been understandable.

Edit: That all happened after lots of over the top "I get the city, I get the club" type stuff immediately before.

I've heard the club and Harris had a gentleman's agreement prior to his first appointment that if Millwall come in they wouldn't stand in his way.

I think it's more the fans angry at how he left. One thing is for sure, if Harris had been in charge at the start of this season we wouldn't be where we are now.

Bonner in as sporting director makes perfect sense and I think he'll do really well in this role. He knows the club inside and out. I'm excited for next season already.

How does the man keep getting jobs? Has he ever achieved anything as a manager?

He's a decent manager. Kept us up last year, left and kept Millwall up and left them in a good position. Previously got Millwall promoted, almost took Cardiff up.

He's a bit of a bellend but he's generally been a decent manager throughout his managerial career, so casting it as "how does he keep getting jobs" is a bit harsh.

I can tell you categorically there was NO gentleman’s agreement with Harris.
