Fair play to Shrewsbury, I didn’t envisage him ending up at the bottom of League One, literally the only option they could’ve gone for to go in with any experience.

Will be really intriguing to see if he can turn them around.

Shrews +Ainsworth looks a good fit ,unfortunately for us. Dirty team + shithouse manager =survival . If Monk goes he would have been my choice, although I don’t think our squad is particularly suited to his style.

I'd like to think Stott would be wise enough from his time in business to know appointing your best mate is a bad idea. I'd really like to think he'd stick to the structure and let the DOF Simon Wilson pick the new manager.

As it goes, I think the most likely scenario of Challinor departing us is for him to go to a bigger club.

But no one knows.

He resigned

Over the last four years you can clearly see how much the job has aged him. I wouldn't be suprised if his family said for his own good to step back. I would.
The lack of support from the vocal number calling for him to go, I reckon has also contributed to the stress he had to deal with, along with always having to juggle injuries and never having a fully fit squad to choose from. What could have been.

He put all of himself into the job, and wouldn't be suprised to see him step back into the youth team after a break. He's a very passionate man and it clearly all became too much recently.

Some people got what they wanted though, and they'll regret not backing him.

Jon Brady resigns after 200 games and nearly 4 years in charge.

Not entirely sure what to make of this to be honest, gutted to start as he’s brought stability and success to the club and clearly cared so much about the club and county. Managerially, we played good football under him for the majority and he showed he had a decent tactical brain and was always quick to switch things up. Perhaps things had gone a bit stale this year, yes he had bad luck with injuries but he built the squad and has to wear this injury crisis against his record.

He was also the most emotional manager around, and in a few recent post match interviews he’s really looked under it and in need of a good break so I can definitely see why he’s resigned.

Overall, he did a fantastic fantastic job stepping in from the academy and has been our best manager since Chris Wilder so deserves big praise for that.

Bit unexpected. There was pressure growing, fans were starting to turn, but wasnt expecting a sudden resignation (or to be honest a sacking) in the immediate turn. It was the first period of time where we were below expectations in four years, and I think Jons temprament/passion leads to a struggle with pressure. I'm unsure whether he just felt that he had given as much as he could, and stood down because he didnt have any fresh ideas to get us out of the hole, or whether just believed the limitations on the budget and the injury crisis would make it too difficult to suceed. The one thing I do remember is that when he first took the job 4 years ago as interim coach that he said openly that he didn't really want to be manager, but felt duty bound to help the club out of a sticky patch, and he's held that together for almost half a decade.

Not sure what comes next. Obviously the derby with no manager, a dozen injured and no wins in 8 is going to be highly unpleasant, but is there a magician out there who can hit higher with the meager resources we have... might have to be a miracle worker to make it work.

I don’t think anyone sees it as gutless at our end. Most think it’s quite honourable and would rather that than us sack him.

Poor show to do it just before a derby match and throw all preparation into limbo though dont you think? A home derby win could have been a catalyst for improved results?

With our squad atm the preparation probably amounted to drawing straws for the office staff to see who was playing.

I just think he’s run out of energy and has burnt himself out, and like you say it’s better to walk in that situation than limp on til the new year and everyone wants him sacked.

Not offensive, the Northern scum have always regarded Northampton as their true derby. In times past we would have seen it as a derby type game as well but not so much these days.

Good luck on Monday, hope you get the P*sh that Burton got rather than the one we played. A draw would suit us, It would be good to drag them down to the relegation scrap, but only if we manage to get three points against the Shrews to close the gap on you. It’s dog eat dog already.

A bit suprised to see Brady go, but considering he left of his own accord he clearly thought for whatever reason he'd gone as far as he could with the team.

I don't see many avaliable out of work managers still, unless they've been on the scrap heap for one reason or another.

I will be intruiged to see the direction they go in, because it wouldn't be too far off what we'd likely do if we was in the same position.

I'm not sure who's going to touch Reading in their current financial position, although I suppose how they've started the season means they're unlikely to get relegated and there's always a manager out there who needs to get back in the game at any cost.

On Brady, I thought he sounded a broken man after they played us 5 or 6 weeks ago, he was very ratty and difficult in the interview (unless that was how he normally was). They've had injuries but discipline wise he must be wondering what on earth is going on and for me, discipline is always one of those things that I think makes you wonder whether the players are with the manager or not.

Yeah the tone of his interviews definitely changed after the last 2 months - even after the point at Birmingham you could sense the weight on his shoulders with how emotional he was. There were a couple of rumours that he’d fallen out with people, Hoskins in particular, but then Hoskins played 75 minutes injured when we had no one else available so I’m not sure of the validity because surely he’d have just fucked it off.

Rumour is this blindsided everyone but over the past few weeks Brady has been getting more and more stressed and has been withdrawing himself within the club, making all the decisions unilaterally and struggling to switch off. It’s all been pretty depressing around the place and Brady has decided to quit for ‘his own sanity’ as it was put to me. Hard to really argue with that decision if it was taking that much of a toll. Also assured no big bust ups, no fallouts just a gradual burnout affecting the man in charge.

Hopefully he can have a nice break and spend some time with the family.

Still so gutted about Brady, just seen these quotes talking about when he was made caretaker and then got it full time

“During COVID, I think I’m probably the cheap option and (they) ask me to take over a couple of games to steady the ship – I do,” Brady remembered.

“We were a bit adrift when I took over and narrowly missed out on staying up.

“The whole time when I first started, I said, ‘could I have my youth-team job back?’ A few games in, they said, ‘could I do a bit more?’ (I said), ‘Can I have my youth-team job back?’

“Five or six games later, they said, ‘look can you take it until the end of the season while we look for someone else?;

“I said, ‘okay as long as you give me my youth-team job back’. Probably a week and a half before the end of the season, they then ask me if I’d consider taking the full-time job.

“I promised my wife I probably wouldn’t do it because we had three young kids at the time and what it takes away from you.”


A job he never wanted, took because he felt a duty to do it, was massively successful at, then completely burnt him out.

Huge respect for the bloke.
