The collapse of ITV Digital was instrumental in us winning the Championship the following season.

Many clubs had budgeted for the TV money that never came. Harry Redknapp took us over, immediately sold Peter Crouch for £5M to Aston Villa and used the money to put together a good squad while other clubs tightened their belts. Paul Merson, Matt Taylor, Tim Sherwood and Svetoslav Todorov came in and propelled us to the Prem.

It was a sliding doors moment and we've never looked back from our lofty perch...... oh right....
It sent us into Admin in 2002. I believe we were the final Club to go into Admin and not pick up a points deduction.

We were one of the few clubs who didn't spend the money before we got it, and it meant we were able to build for our promotion in 2006.

Dean Aston is on so guess they are using the same pundits as Quest did.

So far it’s not been too bad a show. Following the same format as Quest.

I might also be influenced by them calling Stoke pathetic and saying we’ll be ok this season :)

Its a bit wooden. I dont know who the presenter is, he needs to relax his style a bit more like Murray did.
I guess they showed a couple of incidents apart from the goals, but still think they should have more highlights and less chat, but that's just me.

Yeah I think that’s fair, suppose once he has had a bit of time am sure that can come.

I say it every year but too much chatting, just show the highlights and be done with it. We don't need this programme to be two hours long, we can whizz through it in an hour.

A great start when their main game, Cardiff vs Norwich, only had one highlights from the first half!

Do what i do, record it and move to the goals. Can be done very quickly without the chit chat!

Other than Woozencroft being more wooden than a rocking chair, it was basically the same show that was on Quest and Channel 5 beforehand.

If it's not broke, it doesn't need fixing. I'm happy for them to talk for 30 secs after a goals roundup, and Dean Ashton knows his shit so it's not just "big clubs good, small teams rubbish".

Jobi McAnuff next week is also a decent EFL pundit. The female presenter has to be better than last night.

Agree with the above. I quite like the "batch of 3 games" format. Ashton knows his lower leagues.

A few gaffs from a clearly-nervous Woozencroft but he should improve.

Is it just me, or did others find the ITV team abbreviations confusing? E.g., SPC - Stockport, SFO - Salford, MNF - Mansfield, NPC - Newport County, CUT - Carlisle, CLT - Cheltenham, BAL - Burton

I get that they want a unique short code for each team, but is anyone really confusing Cheltenham with Chelsea, or Mansfield with United or City?

Last time I looked Sky used to have a programme on each week for an hour I think which literally just showed the goals with a summary played out over the top like the old days, no studio or pundits.

Just had a look at a TV guide and it seems they have a half an hour programme on between 9pm and 9.30pm tonight which is just League One and Two goals.

They didnt seem to show the time of goals and the scorers graphic, only a minor thing but hopefully they bring it back.

It's an EFL thing, they had the same last year on Quest.

You can see most teams goals on YouTube as they are clipped from sky. Just means you have to manually search for each fixture to see each one however. I’m doing that today lying round the pool….

That was painful….and let’s be honest - should have been 5 or 6. Two stonewallers turned down.
I even like to search out the conference and the feeder league goals as most teams now have a YouTube channel. Most with commentary. Great to watch.

Used to be a Saturday night as well a few years back.

Presenter a bit too wooden and staged rather than relaxed and informal like Murray. Needs a bit of humour like the Quest one occasionally had.

Apparently he is on TS.

Don’t know what they are like but usually those presenters have to hype everything up and get over excited .

He wasn’t going to .

He is no Colin Murray. Who genuinely knew his shit about all 72 clubs, and was passionate about his job. Shame he is not doing it now.
Like Jeff stelling you need to know your facts to do this sort of job. Otherwise you will get found out quickly like so many before who have crashed and burned.

I agree, constantly looking down at a tablet, even if it's just to prompt your next point, is not a professional look.

It felt too much like Ashton was being interrogated by the other guy, too much like a judge calling a witness for evidence, rather than like a naturally relaxed conversation between two guys who were both evidently knowledgeable of everything from the ins and outs of where to get a decent view at Kenilworth Road to a firm recollection of the most abusive actions of Steve Evans....

It’s all a big improvement on sky about ten years ago who thought we needed shitty dance music in the background whilst the goals went in, and generic fans cheering played over the top like we would not notice.
At least now we have Daniel Mann and others - really good commentators.

Seemed there were a few technical issues tonight meaning there was more chat that usual and some delays .

I’ll be honest for some reason or other I chose to give this one a wide berth tonight.. But on this occasion the less action they show the better

Haven’t seen it mentioned but I found it bizarre that the Wigan game highlights were not in order. They had wigans goal first and then their huge chance they got just before that on after.

I only know it was in the wrong order because the Sky commentator mentioned Will Keane had dispossessed them once and Norwich got away with it and then he did it again for the goal. How amateurish can the production be to not manage to get the highlights in the right order? Very poor

The main presenter this week, and the bloke last week are shit. Missing Colin Murray already.

Agreed. Whoever writes the script needs to do better than the presenter going "What are your thoughts on X vs X today?".
