JFH to QPR

So another managerial change in League 1 on the horizon. QPR make official approach for Jimmy Floyd and I swear I read the other day Burton wouldn't stand in his way if they come in, deal done by next league game?

Big blow for Albion but they have kept the progression on track after losing Peschisolido and Rowett so seem well enough run to make a sensible appointment.

I envy them big time, tbh.

Anyway, Hasselbaink should stick with Albion. He's onto a good thing, promotion would be huge this season and if he got it will probably get a better offer than QPR along the way. But then, money.

They've done well and seem very popular in the football world, I certainly have a soft spot for them and considering they are a tiny club they have done extraordinary well, haven't lost many games over the last 3 and a half seasons certainly!

Be a real shame if he goes and I can sympathise with the Burton fans. However, as Jonny says above with a good squad in place there is no real reason it should hurt the promotion push. Walsall and Burton to occupy the top 2 places come May has got a nice ring to it and would have won a few quid with the bookies before the season started!!

It was never going to be too long before the bigger boys came knocking for him with what he's done at Burton but QPR? They seem to appoint new managers every 6 months, it's a bit of circus, a big difference from the stability he has in his current job. Possibly a bit of a risk this early in his managerial career? Although saying that, i'm sure the pay packet he'll be getting at the end of the week will mean he won't lose too much sleep.

Indeed it does.

Not sure it's a good move for JFH. It's a far more risky move for him than Smith is to Brentford. A club in huge debt with year after year of dissapointments. The wrong club ethos, awful players on huge contracts and recent fines with the FFP.

He's going from one club to a polar opposite.

This is how I see the situation, The players had a lock in in the dressing room after the match last night, on emerging the general consensus was that QPR had made an official approach for Jimmy, he told the players that something may or may not happen but that he would be in on Thursday.
From that I think you can deduce he has an interview today, depending on what QPR offer he will make his mind up. One thing he will already know is that under Les Ferdinand as director of football he won't get the freedom to manage and do business as he does at the Albion. He certainly won't enjoy the same relationship with the chairman. Whether he can work in that structure is what he will have to decide for himself.
The obvious pluses for him are salary and the fact that it is near to his family home in Cobham, Surrey and his 3 young daughters.
Personally I will be surprised if he doesn't take up the offer but stranger things have happened.

Looks like Jimmy has decided to take the QPR job, a fantastic 12 months at the Albion, obviously we will be very sad to lose him but we will wish him well, he destined for the top, of that I have no doubt.
Burton Albion will now have to find a replacement. My gut feeling is that it could well be the only former Albion manager more popular than JFH, Nigel Clough, whatever other fans think of him he was absolute mustard for us. He lives 20 minutes away and was at our last 2 home games. He's always tried to help us while he was at the sheep and the Blades.

How long you been following the Albion ? Can you tell me why not Clough further than "don't go back" please. Have a look on the fans forum, Cloughie's return would be a very popular choice.

Besides we did well with jfh didn't we? And clough did well with our rise from non league but we are a different entity now.

Nigel Clough would be a good fit, we are a different prospect now compared to when Gary Rowett and Jimmy Floyd hasselbaink were appointed. Its all well and good having a new up and coming manager but I think many of us are fed up with looking over our shoulders all the time every time a championship manager loses his job. Clough lives local, gave us 10 good years, he always tried to help us after he left, he did a good job at both "the sheep" and the Blades if you look at where he started from. He has a good relationship still with chairman Ben Robinson.
He is trusted hands, knows the club and its supporters too. I can understand where both of you are coming from obviously but really think we need a change in managerial direction this time to give us a bit of stability. Maybe Cloughie can move us forward and take us a step further as he did every season he was here previously.
Neil Warnock was a good player and manager for us too by the way, he has always spoken with fondness of the club.

It's a very passionate and measured post terraceman, I just can't help thinking that it would not work - and I cannot give you a reason why.
I would like to see others interviewed too, on merit not on the fact they live ten minutes away, they know Ben and his daughter and they where there before in the halycon days of non league.
Let the best man win. If it is clough of course I will get behind him but I can't help thinking we should see who applies. I think we are an attractive job for a lot of managers despite the size of the club.

But Dave Webb at Southend is proof that it can work. 3 stints at Southend, all successful, the second time he returned he led the club to back to back promotions and sustained 2nd tier football.
Maybe Clough will be the right man for Burton, maybe not, all conjecture at this point as he currently isn't Burton Albion manager.

Ok, so all I want is a manager that has either improved the league position or got more points of all 3 clubs he has been to, every year, year on year (I don't think there are any exceptions that I'm aware of!) for about 15 years. So, just steady year on year improvement, someone that has already won us 2 promotions......has to be Clough for me. The only reason he was sacked from Derby and Sheffield was they ran out of patience

He takes over a good Burton side and wins them the L2 title, then he gets them to the top of L1 a few months later and could very well win a second consecutive promotion, but no he leaves them and joins an average Championship club. Much bigger club yes but..

If he works wonders with them then fair enough, but not many managers get far with QPR.

Credit to Burton though for being well run, wish our club was like that.

It does sting as I felt if had stayed till the end of the season and by some miracle got us up, then his stock would be even higher and he could have got a premier league job. Qpr is a basket case of a club with no real stability.
But it's a bigger club than us and we have to accept it will always be that way in afraid

Jimmy's gone time to move on. We are top of league one and a much different proposition to when we have appointed previous managers. I think in general its people like me, the older supporters who want Cloughie back, he's the bookies favourite, so much so that they won't take any more bets. Why is it we would be happy to see him back ? Because of his connection previous obviously and the success he bought to the club consistently for 10 seasons of growth. He fits in at Burton Albion and I believe his style will suit the current squad.
Don't get me wrong I'm not averse to someone new at all, but until I see who applies "our Nige" ticks all the boxes required, he may not even apply so the question may not arise. We may be very surprised as to the calibre of candidates but as we are paying our gaffer £40,000 a year that will remove some of the high profile names being banded about by some. I trust chairman Ben Robinson to get it right yet again.
