Carlisle will be n interesting one for next season because of some difference to the normal on their situation.
Firstly that they have gambled big time and very unusually on staying with the manager after a horrendous season, the other 3 who will come down have at least changed manager once, it doesn’t happen at all thesedays hardly except odd situations (Coleman at Accrington) so be interesting if that makes a difference or not next season.
On top of that Carlisle now have been preparing for L2 since March maybe even January really if you look at their signings were good L2 players than good L1 players, they should have their targets made for the summer talked to and ready to join while others wait to see what level.
Their budget will be large so can afford to offload and change a lot of players this summer and re build, but as shown at a few clubs at this level mass spending doesn’t always get results and mass changing of the side usually doesn’t work as well as improving with additions.
Plus Carlisle at present while having a large sudden income with new owners seem to be directing lots of it on improving everything bar the team, coaching team has massively increased, scouting network upgraded, new training facilities being built etc etc the set-up is probably a good season or two away from being ready.
past seasons would probably suggest a side in this terrible form would continue it next season, but their massive increase in budget this summer would suggest an expectation for top 3…….hard to say which way it goes.
Needs to be spent wisely. Bringing in the second-worst goalkeeper in League Two and a bang-average striker in Armstrong won't get you anywhere.
