Carlisle will be n interesting one for next season because of some difference to the normal on their situation.

Firstly that they have gambled big time and very unusually on staying with the manager after a horrendous season, the other 3 who will come down have at least changed manager once, it doesn’t happen at all thesedays hardly except odd situations (Coleman at Accrington) so be interesting if that makes a difference or not next season.

On top of that Carlisle now have been preparing for L2 since March maybe even January really if you look at their signings were good L2 players than good L1 players, they should have their targets made for the summer talked to and ready to join while others wait to see what level.

Their budget will be large so can afford to offload and change a lot of players this summer and re build, but as shown at a few clubs at this level mass spending doesn’t always get results and mass changing of the side usually doesn’t work as well as improving with additions.

Plus Carlisle at present while having a large sudden income with new owners seem to be directing lots of it on improving everything bar the team, coaching team has massively increased, scouting network upgraded, new training facilities being built etc etc the set-up is probably a good season or two away from being ready.

past seasons would probably suggest a side in this terrible form would continue it next season, but their massive increase in budget this summer would suggest an expectation for top 3…….hard to say which way it goes.

Needs to be spent wisely. Bringing in the second-worst goalkeeper in League Two and a bang-average striker in Armstrong won't get you anywhere.

I know I’m in a minority of one, but I would like to see Bromley come up.
15 minutes door to door for me.
We have enough long, depressing trips to far flung, long forgotten northern outposts as it is.

Yeah, but it's a pre-season friendly of a fixture, can't be having that as a real League match.

That's how he normally looks. Always looks like he needs a good warm meal down him.

Another northern team in the PO would be lovely, if we are to stay down.

Congratulations and welcome back Chesterfield, got to admit love seeing three proper football league clubs promoted back over the last 2 seasons
2 tinpotters going down from here this season too. Natural Order slowing getting there. Need Oldham to sneak into the playoffs and win them for the full house though.

Anyway looking forward to seeing Simpson back in League Two next season, a man who "ticks all the boxes" despite overseeing one of the worst seasons League One (and Garry Hill) has ever seen. If Carlisle had any sense they'd have sacked him months ago, if only to rid Radio Cumbria of his monotonous tones,

Needs to be spent wisely. Bringing in the second-worst goalkeeper in League Two and a bang-average striker in Armstrong won't get you anywhere.

And for all the mocking of that post it’s players who probably give a better chance of L2 promotion than you may be expecting.

Doing well in L2 isn’t about finding lots of skills and tricks or mass spending on higher league quality.

It’s finding 90% of the squad to be solid, dependable hard workers who can be consistent and show the right attitude, then finding 3 crucial players, someone to score 20 goals, an old headed lynchpin at the back and one player with that sprinkling of star quality.

With Armstrong we have someone who can if on form bang the 20 goals, while I expect a new player here you could argue if for Huntington can still deliver at this level be the lynchpin (he isn’t in L1 but it is more forgiving here)

He needs to find more solid and dependable, 3 more in defence, 2-3 more in midfield and 1-2 forwards plus find that spark…..it was Moxon last season, it was Bridges back in 2006…..that is the hardest one to find.

Mansfield, Bradford and Colchester have shown season on season chucking endless cash at it doesn’t work if just spent on random numerous mass changes each season, needs a slower build the right balance and a little luck on who comes in.

Yep goalie has been sh*te but he’s playing behind some shocking defending at moment and confidence is shot.

Simpson knows the tactics and style to get out of L2, he knows what you need his biggest issue will be handling expectation and pressure, since takeover went through he’s failed that miserably and he didn’t handle it well in our conference season we only just scraped up at the second chance…..he seems better with low expectations and over achieving.

Stockport County.
Armstrong's a good L2 poacher but not a particularly good L2 all round striker, don't think Harrogate have particularly missed him for their overall style. Still think he'd have done a good job for Wrexham with all the balls they put in the box. Not sure he'll do it for Carlisle next season down here unless they get a good team around him.

And I never really rated that Harry Lewis at Bradford, he had some great penalty save record which got him attention but a lot of the times I'd see Bradford on the highlights it was a bit of a "could have done better there" scenario quite often with him. Most notably in their Play Off semi at Carlisle funnily enough.

So Big Dave, Carlisle just need the right nine players to get promoted.

That could be said for every team in the league...in any league!

It's a shame your season went to the dogs in league 1. I didn't have you dropping straight back down and I'm surprised you will. C'est la vie as they don't say in Cumbria.

Do we have to have the same old remark about "a proper league team" every time a Wrexham or Chesterfield get promoted? If it wasn't for new blood only one team would be in this division.

Definitely not bitter that everyone calls Crawley out for being tinpotters.

I’m sure carlisle will find their home knocking around the relegation zone next season, they bizarrely seem to get quite a buzz from it.
