I'm gonna stick my neck out and so no chance either of them will be at Chesterfield next season.

Why?

We’ve seen in clough how he can sway players to us given his vast experience respect and networks, it can make a massive difference. Fair dues money happens but there’s no CB better in league 2/conference than flint and he himself said it was down to working with clough.

Cooks clearly recognised down the lower leagues in a similar fashion and is a class manager in his own right so no reason why not.

I'd expect Clucas to get a deal at Rotherham and be a key player for them in L1 next season and Cooper is even more of a coup than Flint, I think he'll get a bottom end Championship/top end L1 club. I'm not saying Chesterfield/Cook don't have good enough pulling power to bring in some decent players from levels above, I just don't think those two will drop down to this level.

I'd fancy Bromley to swat Gateshead aside in a PO semi-final with the most cynical display of shithousery and timewasting ever seen in professional football, sitting on a Michael Cheek penalty for 85 minutes. Do really admire the way Gateshead go bout things, though like you say.
Just had a glance at their results and their record this year is poor against the big strong shithousey sides, got beat off Woking and Ebbsfleet who are similar ilk as well.

We now have 5 teams confirmed for L2 in 24/25:

Chesterfield(Promoted from the NL)
Carlisle(Relegated from L1)
Tranmere
Swindon
Newport

Accrington, Notts County, Salford and Bradford could confirm their places, whilst Fleetwood could also be confirmed should results tonight and Saturday go against them.

Almost worth coming down to the National League for - that really is looking very southern next year, even when most of the clubs being relegated (from it, as well as to it) are all pretty southern ..... Gateshead the odd man out by far

The prospect of having Carlisle, Fleetwood, Morecambe and Barrow in the same division is quite grim.

What’s so grim to you about us? Or are you just referring to the long journey?

I think it's the prospect of so many trips up north that is upsetting them. They get a nosebleed when they travel anywhere further than Watford.

Carlisle is a decent weekend. Pop over to Hadrians wall, take in the countryside. Lovely stuff.

Barrow is a different proposition because you always have to go on a Tuesday in winter.

Barrows ace - we’ve always stopped over when played on a saturday and doing so again in a few weeks time, it’s like that out there it’s actually alright -

same goes for carlisle as you mentioned it’s got a lot going for it, love the pub on the corner of the train station too, proper stuff.

Erm - chill a bit with that, we have cracking away support.

However, having to go 4 times to pretty much the most inaccessible part of the country, which happens to be 10 hours travelling away on a good day is a bit wretched. I have absolutely nothing against any of the 4 sides mentioned, I've never met a fan of any of them nor have any of them been regular opponents over my time as Gills fan (30 odd years) so it's not a personal thing, but having more than 1 in 6 of our away games in that region does take the piss somewhat, especially when you consider all the trips we'll have to take to greater Manchester to face another 3 or 4.

No doubt individually you could make a decent trip out of any of them, but having to go there once a month all season? It's just a hassle our fanbase could do without. It's a bit like you Northerners being faced with a division with us, Orient, Crawley, Sutton, Wimbledon, Southend, Dagenham, Bromley and Aldershot in. That sounds crap even to me!

Don’t be such a downer.....if you recruit well for next season you may compete with us all.....but yes I agree it is daunting to your ever declining club to face the men of the north !!!

Join a French League then.

I like Carlisle Morecambe and Barrow as places, but not been to Fleetwood (yet)

Listening to Radio Cumbria you hear most weeks opposition managers mentioning in a post match interview that it's been a long journey to Barrow or Carlisle. We have to do that almost every other week, especially the fans.

As towns, Carlisle and Barrow are definitely upper tier among the places I've been to on awaydays (stayed overnight in both cases, obviously). Characterful grounds with character and towns with character too. And both vastly less grim than other towns with teams in and around this league. I just hope it won't be too long before we get to play up there again.

Hey Boz, "Join a French League then" that's way below the belt even if we're closer!
It's not that we don't like the clubs\areas that we're travelling to (uup north), it's the amount we'll be (possibly) travelling.

I went Carlisle away a few years ago on the 5am train. Great fun.

As for that part of the world, I have family in Kendal so Hadrian’s Wall pfft, been there, seen it. It’s just a bunch of stones anyway.

Welcome to the the forum GFC.

Some of the Gills posters on here seem very dismissive of Rovers, so it seemed fair comment to bite back :) . Not been to Gillingham myself yet, but positive comment on the Rovers boards about how friendly and knowledgeable your wider fanbase seemed.

Remember a few years ago doing Northampton away think it was midweek and speaking to some of their fans you’d thought we’d done a trek to rival Scot of the Antarctic.

To then try and explain to them for Carlisle heading to Northampton is a bloody doddle is hard for them to take in

Definitely hats off to the hardcore Carlisle/Barrow/Plymouth/Exeter etc fans who follow their team home and away, takes serious commitment (and all the more so for Carlisle this season).
