I'm not disappointed personally, more surprised. He's far more successful than LVG, but his brand of football is still defensive and dour. He'd much rather defend a 1-0 lead by parking the bus than go for a second for example. If United fans are happy with that then fair play.

I remember watching Chelsea last year, as fabregas hazard and costa's one touch football smashed 4 and 5 goals past teams... All I could think to myself it 'this is dour'

A bit like his refusal to play youth (I thought varela, McNair, borthwick Jackson, weir, Peirera, Fosu mensah, will Keane, janusjaz and Wilson were amazing in today's final), his 'park the bus' reputation is also garbage. He'll go defensively in high profile games (like a champions league semi final vs barca) to get a result. I'm sure United fans would take that

Chelsea last year scored 2 goals or less in 28 league games and scored 4 or more in 2. He's always been a manager for who defence is more important than attack.

I just hope he doesn't do the same shitty mind games 'everyone hates us, they're all against us' shit that he did at Chelsea which although I suppose it worked for a while, it spectacularly blew up on him this season. It'll be interesting to see if he matures a bit in that respect.
I don't thikn he'll go dour either, I think he'll try to get in a couple of wingers and play like the Robben/Duff way he did when he first won the league. He'll appease fans with that. Like I say, he's going to need to spend a fuck ton of cash.

Boring, defensive, unsuccessful football is not as good as boring, defensive, successful football. It's not surprising at all.

Whether he achieves that or not is something else but his record in this league speaks for itself.

He's spoken about wanting to build a legacy (something he seemed willing to do second time round at Chelsea before the mercenaries became upset). He has full control over transfers, with a strong academy. I suspect he'll play similar football to ferries and bring talented youth through

For all that has been said about your attack minded sides in the Fergie years United always built from a strong defensive base. Mourinho I'm sure will want a strong defensive unit but I don't think he's as negative as some are portraying him.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Gutted if I'm honest.

City have to make do with the guy who just did the double in Germany while United hit the jackpot with someone who was just sacked for taking the league champions to 16th...

So...reputation in management is absolutely everything, no? Not to put too fine a point on it, but I think the powers that be at Manchester United have massively underestimated how tainted Mourinho is. Before his return to Chelsea, players used to think he was the don, fans thought he was a mercurical, difficult, irritating and very good manager, and opposition teams used to worry about his tactical nous.

Now, surely, players think he's a Billy Big Bollocks who lost the Chelsea dressing room, fans think he's tactically inept, and opposition teams know how hugely beatable his sides are. And he plays boring, crap football, further plays into the Sir Alex Ferguson mindset of Manchester United perpetual victimhood, and as has been mentioned is hardly known for his commitment to a long-term project.

He is damaged goods, a laughing stock, and needs to rebuild his reputation and show he can actually build something and manage a football team. His arrogance at thinking he can fix Man Utd is only eclipsed by the enormous stupidity of Man Utd thinking he is suitable for this job.

Or, a proven winner goes to a club with shite loads of money, where the fans want him and are desperate for success. Sounds perfect for him tbh.

Jesus Max!

You could write for the Daily Mail or present for TalkSport with that level of spin!

It was hard to stop once I'd started.

But I do reckon management is defined around the confidence you inspire in people, reputation and people skills, and thus the timing of appointed Mourinho now is the opposite of a good idea. I look forward to being quoted in a Man Utd fan's signature and being wrong in a year's time.

Why are people doubting Jose? Clearly he got back stabbed at Chelsea. He will always be a winner. And don't forget 6 Points guaranteed against Arsenal. Isn't it great to go into the new season with 6 points head start?

PL will be great next season imo. Gone are the days the likes of Leicester win the title :D

I actually really like van Gaal as a bloke, for whatever reason he just couldn't get the team going. I think he would've gone even if we managed to sneak into the top 4 to be honest. But it's good to see him leave on this semi high.

Delighted with Jose coming in. He's a wounded animal and will want to remind everybody he's still the main man. Good on him for finally getting the job he's always wanted. It's about time we got a bit of arsehole back into the club, we've been far too nice for far too long.

Although it has to be said, anything that is won under Mourinho is tainted. With "Asterisk" next to it.

Oh but what days they were. I remember it as if it were only a few mere weeks ago. The greatest story ever told.
