I don't believe we can win it, the defensive quality simply isn't there and we will ultimately fall short. But I do believe we should be able to compete for it, which for me has always meant being with a realistic mathematical shot with 3-4 games to go. We have done that more than once in recent years. We should have been in that position had we pushed on this summer and taken advantage of our CL qualification. But we didn't so here we are. Again.
Fair play and thanks for the answer. It must be frustrating as you're so good going forward. Today could have easily been two more unnecessarily dropped points. Has there been any kind of explanation from Klopp or the club or even rumours about why there was seemingly no plan B (or C, D, E, etc.) after the VVD deal went tits up? I don't buy any kind of nobody available and/or in their price range excuse when they're spending £30m+ on Ox.

Genuine question but do Liverpool fans still seriously start each season thinking they're in with a shot at the title? I mean honestly, deep down? No forum bravado or face saving. Do you look at your squad and think that that defence can possibly do the job?
I can't remember ever being as optimistic going into a season as I was for this one. So no, most of the time you just hope you'll fluke top four. Way back when that was a given, you were hoping but never really expecting it. Both 08/09 and 13/14 kind of came out of the blue.

This is the big one for me. They were told no very early on and were once again warned about their disgusting tapping up tactics, yet they seemingly hung on hoping something would happpen/they could bully Southamton again. Meanwhile Pepe moves to Besiktas on a free, Keane moves to Everton and Manolas signs a new deal with a reported £27mil release clause which makes me wonder what he could have been bought for this summer. All of them would immediately improve Liverpool at CB. All of them would have made the move if pursued.

They need a better holding midfielder too. Don't think they were linked with one though.

Have you seen Keane this season!?! I agree that it was folly not to pursue another target other than VVD, but they may be pretty confident of getting him in January if he's the only one Klopp wants.

Yes, I've seen him Salty mate. He's a much better player than Lovren. Point is there's multiple CB's you could easily attract who would be an improvement, but the club did nowt in the hope VvD would kick up enough of a stink for Southampton to say "fuck it" and sell him. That's the fault of the manager and the chaps upstairs. You could literally shop in the Championship and improve your defence, but you did nowt and so you're destiny is another year of not competing at the top.

No - you are destiny!

Aren't we all Destiny (2)? Can't understand the hype about this, it's shite....Ah wait, wrong thread, it's not the Gamer's Corner. Here's about Jürgen "the Kop" Klopp aka Kloppo...no tactical genius but (sometimes) fun to watch....my arse ;)

Remember reading something by the secret footballer suggesting pretty much all clubs use tapping-up tactics, so this just might've been a case of Southampton doing everything they could to keep Van Djik. I do agree with your point though, Liverpool didn't seem to have any back-up plan if they were unable to get Van Djik.

Of course all clubs tap up. It doesn't make it right but it's common practice. But that moral high ground is very tempting for some people.

Even Rawkites criticize him for this so it's not like your neck is out with this.

Meanwhile I FIRMLY believe that Ashley isn't a very good owner for your club and I stand by that. No fence sitting here.

I don't believe I said I was sticking my neck out Beelo. Is everything ok at home? I'm here if you need me mate.

Quite odd that "all clubs" haven't been exposed multiple times and transfer banned like Liverpool if they're all at it. Quite odd indeed.

Careful up there GB. A combination of your halo choking you and the air being thinner could be disastrous.

Everybody in Football knows the problem even the fans on here it seems to be.

Why does Klopp persist in his tactics is very crazy.....he must be stubborn man.

He reminds me of Martin Jol, a nice man but ultimately not a very good manager of a PL club. Klopp would suit the MLS however.

Lol you laud trophyless Pochettino who stumbled across a world class striker, and question Klopp? Yes Liverpool are still inconsistent, but its too early to call him a failure when the whole place was needing restructured.

I don't think they'd be as competitive without him.
Any team in the world would be less competitive if they lost their best player. It's a nothing statement.

They weren't looking at him for their system a few years back and stumbled across him when he started banging them in in the EL. He was a lucky bit of serendipity they managed to have who just happens to be the missing piece of the puzzle. They weren't looking at him being their best player back then.

He was bought to bring goals to the side and be a foil with, ahem, Andy Carroll. After an iffy first season where all he'd do was hit the post, he then stepped it up big time and became sensational. I don't think most fans would thought he'd be that good though.

You can’t knock him for that. If he didn’t have Kane, he’d have gone out and got somebody.
